MLB The Show 17 News Post

Game Informer has just posted their interview with MLB The Show 17 game designer, Ramone Russell, giving us 48 more details about the game, including Diamond Dynasty, smarter A.I. (as well as more less-than-perfect-but-realistic), new ball physics, the importance of animations, and much more.

They have also included a couple of screenshots showing off the faces of Max Scherzer and Anthony Rizzo from MLB The Show 16 vs. MLB The Show 17.

We have listed some of the details below. Make sure to read the full article here and post your thoughts.
  • The game has over 1,000 new gameplay animations, including non-perfect/mistake animations, which the game didn't have in the past.
  • Russell estimates that there are somewhere between 25-50 new home run swings.
  • Uniform detail has also improved, including a slider for sleeve length.
  • Russell says the team is doing something for PS4 Pro, but can't talk about it yet.
  • The old 17 heads used through the years are gone and have been replaced by 49 heads based on different archetypes.
  • There are 22 new facial hair sets, including some modeled after players such as Josh Donaldson and Dallas Keuchel.
  • The team is doing different body modeling for the game to represent more body types. This includes a new husky body type and sliders for hips, glutes, shoulders, and spine length in the player creator.

I just bought a Samsung 65 inch curved 4k for Christmas. I did notice right from the start that there was lag when playing MLB 16 although mostly just in cut scenes. Otherwise the picture is amazing. Are there optimal specs just for gaming?

Well, if it's lag during cut scenes that is a different thing. That's on the PS4 side I would assume. But input lag for the controller is what I am referring to. Also it depends witch model you have. The 6, 7, 8, or 9 series. Some of the input lag is different on the different models. If you feel like you are lagging when swinging or the responsiveness of the commands you input are slow make sure it's in game mode. There isn't a whole lot more you can do. Game mode should turn off most the video settings that would cause more lag. I am no tech genius though just an enthusiast so anyone else can chime in if I am off base. Pun intended.

Thank you Sony San Diego for this. Excellent news on the graphics department. Definitely a step in the right direction. Now I'm back on the hype train.

Early contender for understatement of the year.

Mo is pretty decent at faces in the same way that Ken Griffey Jr. was pretty decent at baseball.

This This This This & more of this! I highly miss the fact I could hit Triangle to see the actual front of the player card, then hit R1 or L1 to flip to the back. I cannot express how much I miss being able to do that.

Steps and slides already appear in the dirt.

See I am the exact reason Ramone probably cries at night after those really tough days. "We gave them grass tech, what more could they possibly want??" Then he reads posts like this....

Wait we are only getting "real grass tech" and not "real dirt tech" too?

Looks like I will be skipping this year NOT!!!

Yes, but they only appear in predetermined places and shapes.

I've been wanting this for years!! I've been upset that the elbow length underneath shirt most times was barely noticeable in that you had to use the 3/4 arm sleeve so this will remedy that.

Thanks, SCEA!!

EDIT: Just thinking...how cool it can be to have legend players with these high sleeves to represent the older days.

I have a feeling...with the amount of detail they've done thus far...that franchise mode will be amazing.

Not a lot can be done about the dirt right now.You know, style guide and all.

But seriously, in the past I have often said the graphics dont interest me as much as the gameplay, but what I've seen the last couple days blows my doors off and maybe I have misjudged how much graphics could further immerse me in my franchise. I am now prepared to never go back to work again after March 28.

Yeah, there are some good upgrades here, but it's not a purchase for me without upgraded dirt tech and dirt physics. I need next gen dirt tech.

Spoiler

I hope you Franchise guys are happy but this amount of optimism seems like you're building yourself up to possibly be disappointed.

Not to completely derail the thread, but I would consider having the TV professionally calibrated. Made a remarkably noticeable difference from me trying to Google and adjust stuff myself. Your paying so much for a TV, no reason not to have it set up to the best it can perform.

Also is it possible to even miss what you never had?

Now that the graphics look to surpass my wildest dreams, I cant wait to see what the little things in store hold. The one item I want most is editable service time. I can see why it might not be possible for current scea players but created players and esp. the legends, its practically a must have.

I ALMOST fell for this. Almost. Once I read "style guide" I started laughing.
