MLB The Show 17 News Post

Game Informer has just posted their interview with MLB The Show 17 game designer, Ramone Russell, giving us 48 more details about the game, including Diamond Dynasty, smarter A.I. (as well as more less-than-perfect-but-realistic), new ball physics, the importance of animations, and much more.

They have also included a couple of screenshots showing off the faces of Max Scherzer and Anthony Rizzo from MLB The Show 16 vs. MLB The Show 17.

We have listed some of the details below. Make sure to read the full article here and post your thoughts.
  • The game has over 1,000 new gameplay animations, including non-perfect/mistake animations, which the game didn't have in the past.
  • Russell estimates that there are somewhere between 25-50 new home run swings.
  • Uniform detail has also improved, including a slider for sleeve length.
  • Russell says the team is doing something for PS4 Pro, but can't talk about it yet.
  • The old 17 heads used through the years are gone and have been replaced by 49 heads based on different archetypes.
  • There are 22 new facial hair sets, including some modeled after players such as Josh Donaldson and Dallas Keuchel.
  • The team is doing different body modeling for the game to represent more body types. This includes a new husky body type and sliders for hips, glutes, shoulders, and spine length in the player creator.

I'm curious as to what is going to happen with our carryover saves or those of us creating rosters with the 17 old faces being replaced what will happen. Do we have to re-do all the faces from scratch or will the old faces still carry over and we just have to make minor adjustments? Hoping to get some clarity on that.

Otherwise loving everything so far.

Was just wondering the same thing.

Hopefully they threw us a bone there and it won't be an issue. But you never know.

Maybe. But it is definitely good to see the new face/hairstyle improvements even if it does take the roster creators longer than usual to re-create faces.

I wouldn't worry about it. You wont miss much outside of upscaled 4k and a more consistent 60 fps for single player.

When people realize that HDR on their TV creates more input lag, they'll want to turn it off.

On my TV, 4K HDR has 50ms of input lag. 4K without HDR has 17ms.

I'm not upgrading my TV to 4k. So, probably want be upgrading to pro. Unless their is a drastic change for 1080p.

Rizzo and sharzer looking good.

One assumes if all faces look this good then the Show will finally be on par with other sports games now, face-wise.

I am getting so excited for the new additions/refinements for this year. More time spent working on the PS4 and zero allocation of resources towards the PS3 version. Should make for the best gaming experience to date.

Is it me or do we already see some of the new sun/grass reflections here?

Well then you have the wrong TV. WIth my brand new Samsung I can turn on 4k, HDR and all of the other bells and whistles and dont even have to use game mode anymore.

Samsung 8 series 65" Best TV I have ever owned. I never really bought into the 4k hype, until I saw this one on display. They even had a PS4 hooked up to the floor model so I spent about an hour messing with it before I bought it.

Honestly I cant remember the exact model number or Spec info and such. But I do know that when I had it calibrated, lag was 19ms with everything on.

This. I got a Vizio 4k last year when my LG blew out because I knew I was getting a Pro. I haven't had to use game mode on mine either and played '16 without any input lag.

Love reading about DD having a ratings cap for events. I hope something like this is used for the seasons. Perhaps it'll
be mentioned later on (still reading).

That's clearly a fake. No one in California actually prints anything on paper.

I am going out on a limb here but if it's not curved I am guessing its the KS8000. If it is curved it's the KS8500. I have the 8000 as well and it is amazing. With 4k and HDR on the lag is something like 21.9 ms. Also unlike some of the tv's out there ALL of the inputs are HDR capable.

So is it safe to say, next year, we should expect "real dirt tech"? [emoji12] I could just see them going overboard and programming moisture content into the dirt so it dries out realistically depending on the time of year and temperature. Also, real time cleat marks and disruptions in the dirts surface would be cool.

See I am the exact reason Ramone probably cries at night after those really tough days. "We gave them grass tech, what more could they possibly want??" Then he reads posts like this....

Mo, I know I'm not the only one that can't wait to see what you can do with all the new options.

Also hoping that you will be able at some point to rework my player that you did for me last year.
