NBA 2K17 News Post

During the NBA 2K17 community event, the one item that was to remain under a strict embargo was any discussion about the new MyCareer mode.

After last year's Frequency Vibrations MyCareer story presented by Spike Lee, the NBA 2K team was focused on ways to improve the game's most played mode, and Jeff Thomas, VP for Visual Concepts, was ready to share all that is new this year in MyCareer.

As you likely know by now, on September 9 The Prelude will be available as a free download. Players can begin their MyCareer 11 days before the full release of NBA 2K17, and you'll be able to play a significant amount of MyCareer leading up to when you'll declare for the NBA Draft and start your NBA career.

ahhhh okay. so you can switch between your different saves. i thought they meant you could switch between multiple characters within the same save.

They should create a generator where you insert

Position- Small Forward
Height- 6'8
Weight- 225
Archetype- Point Forward
Wingspan- 82.7"

and then it gives you the maximum for each attribute, that way before selecting everything you know what you're limited to.

Yes. You can take control of your fictional team mates who are part of the story.

It says you can only do the free version of the prelude once? I assume that means the prelude is also including in NBA 2k17 and I can redo it as many times as I want?

If it incorporates the changes they made to MyGM and MyLeague, absolutely. It's incredibly deep.

2) The wear and tear/fatigue system that Mike mentioned in gameplay, does that apply to MyCareer as well? If so, do certain attributes like weight and strength or certain badges influence that? Can you get hurt in game? Does your coach not play you for the full game now?
I would hope so, but again speculating. The fact that you can lift weights etc. seems to think this would be fully integrated or at least improved. I also wasn't aware of your guy never getting hurt last year as admittedly I didn't make it too far in that mode.

3) I see you said we can get to a 99. Does that mean we can potentially exceed some of the caps in the archetype we pick? If so this is huge because I feel the archetypes looked to restrictive but I feel you should be able to exceed them if you really put in the work. It shouldn't be easy of course. And your development should depend on all things you do in practice and in game like how consistent are your shot releases, drills, etc. Based on what you said Mike it sounds like this is in the game.
Yes, you can exceed. This is the concept of "Doin' Work."

4) Will it be easier to sim through seasons without missing off days? Last year if we simmed the game before an off day we couldn't participate in the off day immediately following the game that we simmed. So it was either play the game or miss a practice. I thought this was unnecessarily penalizing people that want to get through their career fast. I want to actually finish a full 15-20 year career this year but things like that made it difficult. Please tell me that's changed.
This was not discussed one way or another.
When you say exceed the caps can I feasibly have a 99 rating in every attribute? Seems extreme.

You can. When you're in the NBA and on the team w/ the Michael B. Jordan character, they mentioned you can switch to him. They also said you can choose not to and just play as yourself the whole time.

"Doin work" will get those 25 bars which you need in order to be 99 overall..just like last year,( Gym Rat kinda)

being 99 on every attribute? No way!

Yes. I believe I read that you'll be able to use that VC, and any VC you have/purchase will carry over to NBA 2K17.

Dymanic Duos you won't see until full retail version. There you will switch between Prez and Michael B Jordan's character.

Prelude you get just one shot.

That would just be a new MyCareer at that point

All I hope is that teammate AI is greatly improved. Nothing will make me quit playing this mode quicker then joining up with a Westbrook or Harden and all of a sudden they play timid don't take shots and are incapable of creating their own offense and have to be spoon fed buckets by the user. Or the inability to play as a #2 guy on a team to another superstar or the fact that you cant be a role player like Steve Kerr or be a player like Robert Horry. Not everyone wants to be a superstar of the team averaging 30-10-10 I would love to have just a spot up shooter player. But unfortunatly your team will lose if you dont force yourself to play like a superstar and the reason for this is because all of your teammates play like a dumbed down version of themselves. But strangely enough opposing AI plays like their real counter part and players play like themselves in every other aspect of the game EXCEPT when they are your teammates in MyCareer.

This. Absolutely ruins it if this still occurs. Please no more Space Jam A.I. (my player joining somehow took all their powers) or "Hero Ball Is All" (you either do it all or lose) logic.

You can play in team USA vs Australia as far as I saw in a stream on YouTube that had a user controlled created player. Pretty sure it was my career.

I think that makes sense especially with the "3&D" guys in the NBA. And I think there are other examples that would apply too.
There would be no point in archetypes then. Solid defender sure. Really God defender eh. Lockdown defender absolutely not. The thing is that sharpshooter in the game of basketball is one of the deadliest offensive weapons. I don't find it fair to for them to be great defenders. Offline sure - online no. If Lockdown defender can't shoot
from 3 - you shouldn't be able to defend at a similar level. Plus defense is much more IQ related than shooting. You can probably compensate for average defensive stats if you are smart. Same can't be said for shooting.

See, nobody has any clue the extent of the upgrades possible because nobody with any real knowledge is answering.

And to further this, if you're only rewarded increases via positive performance/work, once you've reached or purchased an attribute level higher than base archetype (25 3PT vs 15 3PT from example), can that ever be taken away for poor performance/lack of work?

I want to know, that if I choose a Point Forward SF, that I'm not stuck with an average 3PT rating and a horrible defense rating for LIFE!!! And by increasing that category, can I max it to 25 and keep it at 25?

Is giving us the total maximum number of potential attribute points an option????

*Caveat, I know there will be a limit to the exact amount of upgrades you can achieve and have to determine which areas to place them. My question is, ensuring you get to CHOOSE the EXACT category you want to place that upgrade and that it is possible to max out.
