NBA 2K17 News Post

During the NBA 2K17 community event, the one item that was to remain under a strict embargo was any discussion about the new MyCareer mode.

After last year's Frequency Vibrations MyCareer story presented by Spike Lee, the NBA 2K team was focused on ways to improve the game's most played mode, and Jeff Thomas, VP for Visual Concepts, was ready to share all that is new this year in MyCareer.

As you likely know by now, on September 9 The Prelude will be available as a free download. Players can begin their MyCareer 11 days before the full release of NBA 2K17, and you'll be able to play a significant amount of MyCareer leading up to when you'll declare for the NBA Draft and start your NBA career.

Is the Prelude a separate download? Like, do I have to manually go to the PlayStation Store, select it, and download it?
Or is it automatically downloaded as part of the main game that I've already pre-ordered?
Just making sure.
Yes, you have to manually download it from the Store. If I remember correctly it's about a 10 Gb download.

Yes, it was addressed in 2K16.

I only experience this on hall of fame...Every other difficulty, your teammates actually play like their attributes matter.

Don't be a homer. They have no financial motivation to do so. Online play creates recurring revenue, so everything will be neutered to enhance that money sink.

Just business.

Short answer. Money.

Eh I don't see 2k in that way - they have made tons of additions to offline this year as I see it. A money thirsty company would be EA with some of their crazy prices. Angry Joe exposes their crazy prices in some games.

Its a fine line between making the community happy and making sure they make their projected profit. Its a business first though, its naive to think otherwise. Sure the development team is about the game, but they have producers and executives that make sure the game is profitable for them and their publisher. But as you pointed out, 2k has found a good balance(being a monopoly on the market helps).

All in all, i feel like most gamers do not have a real grasp on how much it cost to make AAA games.

Isn't the "ask out" option already there in '16 for those situations?

If true, then why was MyCareer made to be tied in with online? If you choose to play it with no internet connection, you don't get the full experience of the mode (no shoe contracts for example). There is no need to have what should be an offline experience tied to online modes like MyPark and Pro-Am.

The only reason this was done, "VC".

It certainly could be that - but then again my career vc goes back to last gen. My player online goes back to 2k10/11. And vc is a great marketing idea - and tons of people enjoy the option to just buy their MP (eh). I say 2k wanted to take a big step towards making my career better but as always - changes don't resonate with some people. I however feel like it wouldn't be a big deal for them too add offline my career. They probably just don't see a reason though other than catering to a small amount of people compared to the general fanbase of online. What I'm basically saying is they did the smart business thing while satisfying a large % of their fanbase. They already have that - so that opens up more potential for adding offline back for those who want it. It's not like they will lose money over it aside from investments in adding it back. I agree with the user above that says 2k has a balance when it comes to satisfying different fanbases. Improvements to my league/my gm/blacktop etc are a good example of that.

I would prefer to pick my own, but also understand why they do it like this. But they need to get real with some of these name choices lol. No matter the back story, 'Orange Juice' is just... bleh.

Anyone know if there is any changes for quicker games? I always play 10-12 minute quarters for realistic stats, but it causes seasons to take forever to get through.

I end up putting a lot more time in career modes with games like MLB The Show because you can get through a full game in 10-15 minutes. And now I love Madden 17's new "Play the Moments" so I can get through a full game on 15 minute quarters in 15-20 minutes. 2K is my favorite game to play, but an hour of the same game vs. the CPU can get old after 82 games...

In an 82 game season, 2K has always killed me on the length of games, especially when you become the star of a team. Also even though you can sim, you can't do any of the off day stuff unless you played the game before.
