NBA 2K17 News Post

During the NBA 2K17 community event, the one item that was to remain under a strict embargo was any discussion about the new MyCareer mode.

After last year's Frequency Vibrations MyCareer story presented by Spike Lee, the NBA 2K team was focused on ways to improve the game's most played mode, and Jeff Thomas, VP for Visual Concepts, was ready to share all that is new this year in MyCareer.

As you likely know by now, on September 9 The Prelude will be available as a free download. Players can begin their MyCareer 11 days before the full release of NBA 2K17, and you'll be able to play a significant amount of MyCareer leading up to when you'll declare for the NBA Draft and start your NBA career.

This all sounds amazing. Can't wait until Friday!

I read different from a dev regarding caps. He said you can't exceed them. This from Zachary Timmerman on Twitter:

@Franchize416 Caps are set where they are. You can earn bronze badges outside of your archetype, which will help you succeed in other areas

No, just endlessly playing games with nothing to work toward is boring. I'm offline player so I like see improvements like this.

Using the point forward SF as an example, by "doin' work" can we raise or cap level from 15 to 25?

If it incorporates the changes they made to MyGM and MyLeague, absolutely. It's incredibly deep.

2) The wear and tear/fatigue system that Mike mentioned in gameplay, does that apply to MyCareer as well? If so, do certain attributes like weight and strength or certain badges influence that? Can you get hurt in game? Does your coach not play you for the full game now?
I would hope so, but again speculating. The fact that you can lift weights etc. seems to think this would be fully integrated or at least improved. I also wasn't aware of your guy never getting hurt last year as admittedly I didn't make it too far in that mode.

3) I see you said we can get to a 99. Does that mean we can potentially exceed some of the caps in the archetype we pick? If so this is huge because I feel the archetypes looked to restrictive but I feel you should be able to exceed them if you really put in the work. It shouldn't be easy of course. And your development should depend on all things you do in practice and in game like how consistent are your shot releases, drills, etc. Based on what you said Mike it sounds like this is in the game.
Yes, you can exceed. This is the concept of "Doin' Work."

4) Will it be easier to sim through seasons without missing off days? Last year if we simmed the game before an off day we couldn't participate in the off day immediately following the game that we simmed. So it was either play the game or miss a practice. I thought this was unnecessarily penalizing people that want to get through their career fast. I want to actually finish a full 15-20 year career this year but things like that made it difficult. Please tell me that's changed.
This was not discussed one way or another.

I'm curious to know the reason behind allowing people to exceed the cap. So are you telling me a sharpshooter at some point in time can become a dunker also?

For me personally, I think the caps are a little too restrictive. I'm not saying that I want to be maxed out in every attribute. But take the sharpshooter example, in that archetype your defense is capped pretty low. I'd like to be able to exceed my defensive cap to become a really good defender as well. I think that makes sense especially with the "3&D" guys in the NBA. And I think there are other examples that would apply too.

Dev says you can't exceed it. Zach Timmerman is a dev, he said on Twitter that can't exceed them.

Also how does the upgrade system work?

Do you still start with 75 upgrades? How are the others earned? I need answers

I think the rest are earned through "doing work" similar to 2k16. It's just a different name for the same meeter we already had except it looks bigger and shooting around on my court goes towards filling it up. But I haven't seen a dev confirm that we can increase caps. In fact I've seen the opposite on Twitter.

Im pretty sure if you delete the file from your Xbox/PS4 you'll be able to start over, lol..

The only thing I want to know is whether our teammates are any good. All this auxiliary stuff will go untouched if I'm playing next to a star and the game makes him play terribly so I have to do everything on my own.

# 36 Rip4ever @ 09/02/16 03:10 PM
Seems like it would work like it did last year. You get so many then as you work you can unlock another set amount which you can add to whatever category you want.

That said it still doesn't really tell you what the actual skill results will be when position/height/weight/wingspan and any I forgot are factored in to give you a final skill points numbers.

You could have two 7ft centers with the same caps but one's vertical is higher because he weighs less, but at the same time the one who weighs more gets a higher skill point value in strength.

Will we be able to access and use our pre order bonus for the prelude? Not looking to cheese, but it stinks having a college 'phenom' rated in the mid 50's.

If we go from what it is posted here, he didnt said that (that caps cant be exceeded) ... he said that caps are set at what they are ... leaving room for them to be exceeded ... which is in line with what the OP said and with whagt the producer from the other thread said.

Only one character in The Prelude. In NBA 2K17 you can probably have like 5 characters like last year.
