NBA 2K17 News Post

Hi everyone! My name is Ben Bishop, and I’m a Senior Producer here at Visual Concepts. I spend most of my time working on all things MyCAREER, so I’m here to fill you in on the new and exciting changes we made for the mode in NBA 2K17.

You’ve probably heard about The Prelude by now, but if you haven’t, check out the trailer, or just try it out. It’ll be available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network on September 9, and it’s completely free! The Prelude covers the college portion of MyCAREER, and has a ton of great content. If you want a head start on your career, or even just to get a taste of what the game is like this year, I promise it’ll be worth your time. But the intent of this blog is to cover everything ELSE you’ll find in MyCAREER, so let’s get started.

Yea that's true people probably would take advantage of it. Sucks for people like me that want that freedom for legitimate reasons lol

Personally, I used to create all kinds of MCs before they made the MyPlayer the only option. I made my kids, previous players, and even just random characters I thought up. I can no do this.
Think about people who enjoy both modes though. I don't want to have to upgrade two players.

I agree with your last sentence there. Anything to cut down on the cheese I can def understand.

I see a lot of similarities between the direction they've taken their MyCareer and the Persona games. That's not a bad decision, it's a great model to follow for a sports RPG.

Tracking national TV games and dunking on LeBron in the 4th of a close game mattering more than dunking on Austin Rivers in a blow out? Me likey.

You would upgrade your player as you went along in each mode. Why should a character in a single player mode do anything with a character in a multiplayer mode. also why have upgrades in mp outside of badges. you should choose an archetype and thats what you got. you could then earn badges to support that archetype. thats easier to balance online, and allows newcomers to jump in without all the grind.

This isn't a bad idea in theory, kind of like FIFA did it. The sad part is that you still wouldn't really have balance for those newcomers because people would be grinding badges almost instantly, especially if the Park allowed it.

Ranked Pro-Am isn't so bad because the matchmaking is a little more random but last year before it was fixed, people were playing 1 v 1's in MyCourt for hours just padding stats so they could be at the top of the leaderboards. Could you imagine the amount of 100 point games that would go on at a Park of two groups of friends purposely padding their stats to get badges? It'd be crazy and even easier than those. I mean I played a 1 v 1 v 1 game on The Stage for just 500 VC and both players ended up double teaming me the entire game while making it so one of them won. The lengths that people will go through for this stuff for even the smallest of things is ridiculous, I can only imagine that.

TL;dr:

Cheesers gonna cheese, and like always ruin it for everyone else.

An option asking to use your MyCareer with your ProAM/Park player would be the best option I think. That way if you don't want these annoying restrictions in MyCareer you can be free of them.

Why not both? When you create your player, just have a switch to choose whther it will be Park/ProAM compat. If you don't select it remove the anti-cheese restrictions.

I just hope they fix rotations in MyCareer. I'm tired of playing 48 minutes a game.

All this is cool but i wanna know can we start over in the prelude? If i make a 6'10 SF Sharpshooter but instead want to make a 6'8 SG Shot Creator can i do it? Comparing attributes is needed.

I'm not a fan of the recent linear storylines that take options away from you developing your NBA career the way you envision for yourself-- forced to be undrafted, then a second round pick, and now being steered towards being part of a duo with a player that isn't actually in the NBA.

However it's great to see that they're actually using talented actors and writers. That will up the authenticity and experience so much more, rather than feeling like we're losing some of the best parts of a real "My" Career to service a cornball story someone else dreamed up for me.

My hope is that they'll move towards something more open ended and dynamic in the future while retaining the production values they've achieved. I'd love to have a much more open-world (open-league?) game that's supplemented by a large variety of contextual cutscenes and off-court interactions. And I'd much rather develop a dynamic duo or rivalry with *actual* NBA players.

Of course NBA players aren't the greatest of actors and their time and desire to contribute by recording lines and performing motion capture is limited, but maybe there are ways to deepen this using the clout and relationships they already do have and supplement this with simulated text and twitter conversations. And I'd sacrifice some production quality to actually have a persistent chemistry/rivalry/buddy system that I can play with that affects both off-court trappings and on-court play:

Ball Hog next to Kevin Durant? Watch his mounting frustration build as he considers free agency while still defending you as a teammate.

Do the same next to LeBron without having built an off-court relationship with him? Watch him take subliminal shots at you on Twitter.

Set big picks for Steph Curry all season? Read about him throwing out a shout out during his third MVP speech and fight against you being traded.

And of course all of this is driven by an on-court, in-game chemistry system based on roles, personality, tendencies, and touches that affects every mode, from PNO and MyTeam to MyCareer and MyGM.

There. I just wrote the pitch for 2K18. Get to work, 2K.

The way it sounds is its a one time thing, so only one player created.. If this is true, maybe a work around is deleting the save data? Or making a new player on another account.

I was thinking the exact same thing, just trying to get an "official" answer if possible before having to try it myself.

Im almost certain there is no way for them to stop you from deleting your save data and starting over.
