NBA 2K17 News Post

Hi everyone! My name is Ben Bishop, and I’m a Senior Producer here at Visual Concepts. I spend most of my time working on all things MyCAREER, so I’m here to fill you in on the new and exciting changes we made for the mode in NBA 2K17.

You’ve probably heard about The Prelude by now, but if you haven’t, check out the trailer, or just try it out. It’ll be available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network on September 9, and it’s completely free! The Prelude covers the college portion of MyCAREER, and has a ton of great content. If you want a head start on your career, or even just to get a taste of what the game is like this year, I promise it’ll be worth your time. But the intent of this blog is to cover everything ELSE you’ll find in MyCAREER, so let’s get started.

Love all the changes that they made in terms of giving us more options and a balance of being able to immerse ourselves in the story for those who like the scenes to just general improvements.

The only thing that's missing and I really hope there was just too much to talk about and free agency and stuff didn't make it in but is the ability to talk to your GM about trades and potential additions to your team in the off season. That's the only thing missing to me reading that article, otherwiseI'm very excited for this year's MyCareer with a lot of these changs and imrpovements.

This all sounds amazing, but those Vs he is wearing on the trainer's table look incredible. OMG. As a sneakerhead I can't wait to get my endorsement.

As other people mentioned I'm curious as to what happens when you leave, sounds like they have their bases covered so I'm assuming you won't be locked on the same team for your entire careers. Once you leave will you be able to use the dual player control with another player on the team if he's not on it?

I'm also wondering how long the story elements last, are they going to be sprinkled in for your entire career or will they fall off after a season, two, three+?

lol..."orange juice"

That aside, this sounds like it has all the depth and interactivity that we were hoping for from 2K16. I really like the idea of connecting with teammates (especially having guys to come up with), as I felt that was always one of the major disconnects in these kinds of modes (like for my Hornets career in 2K15 when I was followed by nearly the whole league, but couldn't get Al Jefferson, my supposed mentor, to say two words to me).

I'm still a franchise guy first and foremost, but this year's MyCareer sounds legit.

I might actually play a lot of career mode this year, it looks really cool.

2k probably will have vc to buy again as they did for 15, and 16. This year will be no different.

I know they put limitations on stats to make them realistic but I had to ask....What does height have to do with shooting ability? Why do you shoot worse, when you get taller? I'm not sure that really equates to real life....

Just one thing that bothers me for some reason. lol

All of this, sounds awesome by the way. Can't wait to play the game.

With attribute caps and having to practice and actually play the game to achieve 99 overall it's not as simple as just spending money and cheesiness the game

Really sounds like they put in some work this year on Career. Wanted to hear that making the USA squad was possible, but I guess this will be another year of that missing out.

Still looking forward to this though and the wait for next week is gonna suck lol

Man this is really sounding GREAT! Several questions though:

1) Most importantly, how is the playcalling system in MyCareer games? The playcalling really took a step back in 2k16. Will it be more like 2k15 where they called specific plays, more variety of plays, calling plays for the hot man, etc.?? Please say yes

2) The wear and tear/fatigue system that Mike mentioned in gameplay, does that apply to MyCareer as well? If so, do certain attributes like weight and strength or certain badges influence that? Can you get hurt in game? Does your coach not play you for the full game now?

3) I see you said we can get to a 99. Does that mean we can potentially exceed some of the caps in the archetype we pick? If so this is huge because I feel the archetypes looked to restrictive but I feel you should be able to exceed them if you really put in the work. It shouldn't be easy of course. And your development should depend on all things you do in practice and in game like how consistent are your shot releases, drills, etc. It sounds like yall are incorporating that with the Doin Work feature.

Overall, I am very excited to see where MyCareer is going and I can't wait to get started.

True but you still need vc to apply your upgrade. So you still could buy vc to get an 88 ovr then go to practice with the left over vc from buying vc or buy more vc. I never did that for 16 i got all my vc from career, mypark, pro am, PNO, mygm/league

Oh yea one big question I forgot. Will it be easier to sim through seasons without missing off days? Last year if we simmed the game before an off day we couldn't participate in the off day immediately following the game that we simmed. So it was either play the game or miss a practice. I thought this was unnecessarily penalizing people that want to get through their career fast. I want to actually finish a full 15-20 year career this year but things like that made it difficult. Please tell me that's changed.
