However, i believe that even without sliders some issues could be minimized.

First, the Superstar difficulty will probably make the players more agressive on the ball (fullback´s included).

Second, you played with teams with terrible defenders and, since they are South American, in PES this usually means that they have the "Contain" setting on tactics and not the "Press" or "Agressive"

And yes, although these are on CPU teams you can change them and have them reflected on the pitch. In PES, each team has it´s own space for tactics alocated and if you change it on the edit menu, it will save forever and will be used on all gameplay modes (play now, ML, etc...).

There are no sliders in PES but there are very deep team tactics options that have impact on the pitch (unlike FIFA).

Loved your ommentary on the game, and to me what stands out the most (and this is something that i can´t get in FIFA) is the randomness. It feels that anything can happen in the game, that there are no "predifined" way´s of playing and these adds a lot to longevity on the game.

p.s. - can you try a game with 2 top teams on Superstar difficulty and see what happens?
Hey Nuno, good to see you.

I played superstar as well and it happens throughout all teams. This is a built in/embedded issue with the defensive mentality. Ever since they introduced the Attacking Prowess and Defensive Prowess values, there is no in-between. So they will either Defend the man as much as they can, or they will go in a full out attack as much as possible.

Tactics always play a role, but the fundamentals should not be handicapped if that's the case. The same thing happened in PES 16 and is exactly what I was talking about in my first PES 17 video on PESDay2 reviews/videos. DMend also posted a video of his attempts to remedy it, and it showed the defender hugging the man off the ball like it's a corner kick:

I agree that tactics are very deep, but like I said, they should not be the be all end all - which is what common PES players defend. That's not right. No team in the world has all 11-players completely in-sync with the prescribed tactics. Doesn't happen.

I'll definitely get another video posted on Superstar with top quality teams to prove the point a bit further. Like I said though, 2 issues here, and if fixed - this game will have potential to be gameplay king again.

FYI, I did make Bhatti and Asim aware. Adam retweeted me and replied with saying they take all feedback - and the one criticism last year was making the full game play different than the demo. Good stuff, let's see what happens - like you said - we can only hope!

Was only able to play one game so far, but so far really like what I am seeing. I don't get some of the criticism, but maybe I need to play more.

Loved the weight of the players and how it really felt like you're controlling a high agility player such as Alexis while pulling off some skill moves going down the flank, and then hitting a shot from outside the box carried a lot of power in it. The ball flew over the goal by only a foot but you could tell you hit it with great power.

The player movement felt good as well. Fouls finally called! I had 3 FK's from outside the box, which by my count, was 3 times more than I had all last year in PES16.

As always, graphics were great IMO, and the player models still vastly out perform FIFA. Tho FIFA with Frostbite this year that may change.

Over all really excited for the game and can't wait to see what the modding community does for the PS4.

Ok, so the mentality shifting you talk (and very noticeable of course) is not possible to fix with tactics, but if you choose 2 big teams on Superstar with the press tactic, do the fullback´s still just follow you down the line or do they attack you?

Solving at least one problem with tactics would be a nice improvement...

About Bahtti and Asim... don´t take anything they say seriously about gameplay updates, just the boots and balls update!

EDIT: one thing i tottaly forgot about your video!! The ball possession was exactly 50-50! Awesome!

Okay so played a half on my lunch break Top player Barca (me) vs. Boca and so far i am liking what see so far. Already seen 4 fouls in the first half and most of them were for players challenging for pass which is great. Even saw a nasty foul on Suarez where the defender went to go clear a lobbed passed a missed and caught Suarez instead. Have to play more but I can say if anyone enjoyed Pes 16 they will definitely like this game even more, I just hope they don't mess with the referees because I think they are great so far.

I played 3 games. Love it. Better than 2016. More animations, more fouls, and the graphics are fantastic. Definitely can tell the shots are better, and have more bite.
That's not what I want to hear lol. Shooting hasn't been "floaty" since PES 2013. All the Fox Engine games have had boring, one dimensional, over-powered shooting, IMO. Guess that hasn't changed.

There is an outside hope that fluid formations or attack/defense levels may be a remedy. Have to look into it later though. I really hope it's something like that, honestly - so yeah, completely agree with you. Solving tactics to fix a gameplay fundamental, is much more ideal.

Yes, the game stats were fantastic, other than fouls of course. However, with better positioning by having those 2 issues fixed, fouls will come. I'm talking 10-12 a match, per team. I'm serious. They've made the ref very aware of what's going on, now they just need to position the players to be closer together, by making them stop running away at such intensities like it's a game of TAG!

Everything about this game is better than last year. Was worried a little from some of the videos of game play that the A.I. still wasn't challenging enough on superstar difficulty. But from what I played, there's no way the majority of those guys were playing on superstar. Even Boca Jrs. put up a good fight. Carlos Tevez is a beast. Bottom line, if you liked PES 2016, you'll love PES 2017. Even the biggest FIFA fanboys should at least give it a shot.

Just played it once so far. Saw a couple great saves by my keeper. Is there anyway to change game speed in the demo? It's always been an option even for the demo's for the past few years.

Pause the game and go to system settings.

It definitely seems better than last years version Dub at least on basic shooting and I couldn't stand the shooting in Pes 16.

Yes, check system settings.

As a novice soccer gamer who played old school ISS, y'all need to try this!

Wow I'm blown away by the demo! This feels like them old games. Folks,
Download it, it's free and it deserves your time.

Ball's in your court EA.

Boca vs River on xbox one, I will be getting this for PS4. Had 16 on PS4 and this game blows it away. So much more fluid, the ball is looser, less auto steering on everything. Keepers make nice saves and a personal fave is how long they stay on the ground when they get scored on. Laying there just thinking about all the things that could have been.

What a step up from 2016. There is such an organic feel to the game that FIFA can't match. Player models are improved. Foot planting looks spot on, so players don't seem to be floating around the pitch. CPU are actually playing crosses into the box. Haven't had this much fun playing a game in a while. Let's see how adaptive AI plays out!

# 34 BL8001 @ 08/23/16 07:59 PM
As far as adaptive goes my first thought on it kicking in was when I played france with germany.

Not so much adaptive as they kept going with what was working which was exploiting me down the right wing. Until finally I gave up a goal.

The main thing pes has going on right now for me is I can't wait to play another match. Soon as I get the full game and an option file this is going to rock.

# 35 RoyceDa59 @ 08/23/16 08:42 PM
Its weird passing still feels a little too easy on support one but the pass completion % are spot on from the 8 games that I played. I have yet to see any team with 90% above let alone above 85%.

Also, while the shot variety is better I still would like to see some shots go over the goal from the cpu, but I feel like it is still a small sample size. I anxious to get the retail copy and mess with some of the tactics as many of them seem locked in the demo. Also would like to play this for long than a 10 minute match haha.

Great stuff, Matt. That hot and cold, binary attacking / defending stuck out immediately. Love the physics, especially the ball, but what's up with the skiing animation when players are face up dribbling? It looks silly because virtually every player on the pitch does it. It almost looks like a dribbling drill with cones.

One question, a 1-word question:

FOULS?
As in, are there any?
