MLB The Show 16 News Post

If you've been on Twitter lately, you've no doubt been seeing Ramone Russell answer fans inquiries about why they were banned over the past couple of days.

Over the weekend, Ramone also posted in the SCEA Forums reiterating that breaking the rules and standards of the community could result in a console and PSN ID being banned.

Quote:
"If a player is found cheating, exploiting, harassing other players, or breaking the rules in game or here on The Show Nation forums, we will suspend the account for a limited time or even permanently ban the ID and console.

This isn't new and we've always been on the lookout for these types of players, but it's important to remind the community of the potential consequences that may await players if they decide to travel down the dark path."

Also of note via TheShowNation (Victor_SDS)

Quote:
There was an exploit related to cancelling transactions on the marketplace. If someone took advantage of this exploit egregiously, their ID would have been flagged and banned. Flipping cards on the market is not an offense. Buying and quick selling is not an offense. It had more process than just cancelling an order.

A number of players were banned in the past few days according to Ramone's Twitter Feed:

"We banned a number of users who exploited community market transactions. Bans will not be reversed, fyi flipping cards IS NOT an exploit.

Flipping cards doesn't get you banned, we encourage flipped cards, flipping cards is good for everyone."

Several users were quick to claim innocence but it appears Russell came armed with info, telling at least one user they were in the top 1% of offenders of the glitch. In fact, the SCEA investigation into the matter was three weeks long and involved multiple runs and checks of the same data.

This was a bold move by SCEA to protect the online gaming experience for many MLB The Show users. While bans are nothing new in the online gaming world, it does appear SCEA has taken some pretty dramatic steps in order to safeguard the online experience for gamers. While some of the bans are permanent, others are temporary and will last anywhere from days to weeks to months.

What do you think of the bans? Was SCEA right? Is this a good move?

I was one of the players banned for the exploit. At least I think I was the exploit, since they have not replied to my emails, or contacted me about the ban. I did not use this exploit. I have never moved cards with a PC and PS3 together. I have an impeccable reputation in the show as well as the MUT community. I have not violated the TOS in any way. I don't expect anyone to just believe me, because you don't know me. But all I can say is that I'm telling the truth. Many others are as well. A lot of really good people were banned, AND PUBLICLY HUMILIATED, for no good reason. This whole thing was a mistake made by SDS. I know that sounds unlikely, but again, it's the truth. I'm sure there were some that exploited the market, I'm also sure that most did not. I think they put their faith in a process that did not return accurate results. I hope they make this right, I'd actually like to continue to be a customer. But I've really lost my faith in SDS's ability to do the right thing. Those who know me in these communities, know I'm innocent. I know I'm innocent. I just hope my good reputation pays off.

You have that backwards.
Until they are proven guilty they are presumed innocent.
At first Sony assumed they were guilty. It appears now Sony is attempting to prove their guilt.

If you claim to know, then tell me:

1. How did the exploit work.

2. How are you sure that it could not be accidentally triggered.

3. That, if the glitch could be accidentally triggered, that the sweep accounted for this.

* SDS says it is 100% sure its glitch cannot be accidentally triggered.

** Many credible posters that have been banned claimed they did not know of the exploit and did not intentionally trigger it. Most posters who prefer a witch hunt simply overlook that within thousands of transactions a few random stubs here and there are not going to be detected. It's not like we hire an accountant to keep a ledger of our stubs, etc.

*** According to SDS, only 1% of the "exploiters" got banned which is 1,500. That means 150,000 players intentionally used this exploit, yet not one of them ever posted about it. Of course, I say "intentionally" because SDS claims it is "100%" sure that the exploit can only be triggered "intentionally." Cardinalbird5 revealed that one of his friends was told a transaction for 200 stubs was in violation. Think about that. Are you telling me that anyone that had access to what they believed was an iron-clad exploit would pull a 200 stub transaction out of it? Silly. It seems pretty obvious the glitch had been triggered accidentally - yet, SDS refuses to acknowledge or believe it.

I think any rational view of this situation would include the simple fact that given the numbers, it is clear the exploit was triggered by tens of thousands or more people UNintentionally. I don't care how cynical you are, I am not going to believe for a minute that there are 150,000 users out there who would intentionally cheat (and have it remain quiet).

That is basically what SDS is saying - and I find that patently absurd.
Thank you.

Is there a source for this number? I don't believe SDS ever said this. They told one guy that he's was in the top 1% of exploiters. The 1,500 number came from someone else.

This game for PS3 and PS4 combined has sold 640,000 copies wordwide. It doesn't seem plausible that 150,000 different users would trigger an exploit that supposedly isn't very easy to trigger.

@redsoxforevur @ baseballsim Okay, then i am a cheater, because i am trade cards on the PS4 over 3 Month only with the sense to earn stubbs. I thought, this is the sense from the marktplace. @jaytal6 Correct!!! You say: """"This whole thing was a mistake made by SDS."""" Why does SDS not says, that we only can trade cards we need dircectly? OK, it is not allowed to use the marktplace to earn stubbs, then i need 10000€ for a big team. Thank you, i understand.

And not one person has confessed that they were guilty of doing it.

So I guess SDS is falsely banning everyone right? Even the guys that did it 30+ times and exploited to get over 3 million in stubs?

Right??

On a side note, I decided to play a game of MLB earlier after not playing for a couple of weeks. Ten minutes in to my session, my internet goes down for the first time in a year and is still down as we speak. It's hard to speculate why my internet has gone down. It's just weird.

Oh man. I really hope you aren't trying to say Sony/SDS were responsible for your Internet going down....

Yea this is the thing. Has anybody even said "Well yea I did it"

And for the multiple small transactions being feasible...maybe the people who were banned took a page out of Office Space...

I would love to see the specifics of it all. I'm still waiting on the specific number of users who were banned.

I DO understand everyone's reluctance to believe those who are posting about their "not guilty pleas." I my case, It really bothers me to be accused of cheating, when I've always tried to play fair with everyone. Also, I really love this game, and I'd like to play it again. But again, I respect your reluctance to believe, but I assure you, there are many innocent players out there.

I'm not saying that at all. The timing just seemed strange considering that I've made comments that might have angered some people. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, though. Paranoia on my part, I'm sure.

That's not what happened. As I recall, it had to do with putting the card up and then cancelling it nearly at the same time on the site then in the game before it updated in-game, therefore getting double your credits back.

You had to go out of your way to do it, it's not something that could "accidentally happen a bunch of times."

And there's just as much a chance you have to eat crow. People tend not to side with the accused

Come to think of it, I did see Sony on a grassy knoll.

EDIT quoted wrong poster. Fixed, but not verbatim.

Things you don't know about, like Twitter posts being used in news stories. Publishing the accusations of (at least some) very innocent people. Turning them into instant villains. They have a bad rep now. That's sound perspective. You can look this up if you want and see for yourself.
