Slight one at that. Just like the Delly on Curry one, most of his pressure he was planting his feet and changing direction which is more then I can say for 2k15 and 14 with all the sliding and warping they had on D. The Pat Beverley one looked hella great though.

Such a small but great detail. Really adds to everything, also the scoreboards have a minor update as they removed the random colored background behind team logos. Makes it look a bit cleaner.

The thing to keep an eye out for is whether sliding provides an advantage, or is the cause of a disadvantage. There is some flexibility in friction on a hardwood floor in real life, so it's important to remember that it's not the LOOK of video game sliding we're trying to avoid, but the FUNCTION.

Sliding is not governed by ratings, so sliding into and out of advantageous positions is part of the problems we have with rebounding, loose balls, spot up shooting and defense. When sliding is only VISUAL, but the situation is happening according to basketball principles, it's a nitpick. When sliding is FUNCTIONAL, and affects the outcome of a situation, we need to be on notice and isolate the situations so we can help find solutions.

In the above example, does Melo go from a pull up 2 to a pull up 3 with that slide, even though he has done nothing to make that shift? Does he go from inbounds to out of bounds?

No way to know until we play the game, but this is the context of the sliding issue that I find useful.

Everything sounds great. This makes defensive teams something to fear. Now give me freelance offenses and presentation, and I'm all set. Been preordered digital from PSN a while ago.

I know the mods don't like us bringing up the competition in these threads but...its like EA is playing checkers and 2K is playing chess.
While EA is trying to nail the fundamentals with Live 2K is focused on the intricacies of the sport. It is one thing being able to go down the park and play a pick up game and then there is being able to excel and take your game to the next level with basketball IQ.

True, and is it just me or does Steph Curry have his dribbling coming off of screens mocapped? It looked so lifelike.

EDIT: Courtney Lee has finally been scanned and Mike Conley got a new one as well.
The dribble pull-up looks SIGNIFICANTLY improved. That Lebron move looked very authentic. Both Lebron and Wall had that beautiful hesitation then pull up, something like that was certainly not as fluid and controllable in 2K15.

I also noticed that Steph was looking very signature with that dribble technique.

I know I complained a lot about the defense this year . But I really felt like I couldn't defend and contests adequately.

This changes thank you 2k this is all I asked for all year. I know it wasn't easy

Mind. Blown. I actually haven't bought NBA2K in several years, so this looks like it'll be an incredibly reintroduction to the series

Can't wait to run with my new-look Raptors!

NEW - Elite defender responsibility – In any other basketball game prior to NBA 2K16, a Cavs vs. Bulls match up would have Dunleavy guarding LeBron the entire game. Now certain teams will put their best defenders on you depending on the situation. Expect players like Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler, or Kawhi Leonard to switch on to elite perimeter players.

I asked about this in the previous dev blog and 2k comes through with the goods yet again. This is yet another feature to help improve authenticity and create more realistic gameplay.

I'm really hoping this carries over to MyCareer too i.e. If I'm the best scorer will they put their best defender on me and vice versa.

NEW – Multiple defensive player assignments - Just like the finals, a player like LeBron could see up to four different Warriors match up with him throughout a game. This can change due to quarter, score and how he’s having success

Now this here is just ridiculous. It seems the importance of not just having one defensive stopper, but multiple, could really become an effective way to shut down the opposing star players.

2k, you guys have outdone yourselves

Have you ever seen an 85 year old with a rotary phone in their home try to operate an IPhone 6?? That's going to be me for about a month with this game lol!!! I love it!

That does not mean all the improvements we are talking about are not real. It simply means not every single possession of every single game will everthing appear as it does in real life.

Sometimes the discussion turns from how far we advanced from the last game ot how far we are from perfection.

So just remember the improvements are real but it is still a game. Your still going to see something here or there but OVERALL this is a huge gameplay improvement over 2k15. And it is just a single development cycle.

Just a note for those who actually like games and have realistic expectations for a video game.
I will admit that I was a little dissapointed in the amount of foot sliding I still see, but that's almost a function of how amazing the Gameplay Features video was in showing how well it works when it does. It seems most jarring when players turn suddenly and the animations don't appear to blend, or players slide into a pick and roll. What was really odd was seeing Bogut slide to the pick, but then almost running in place on the roll. Maybe that was the foot planting *really* kicking in.

But man, all the new team, AI, and defensive matchup features cover just about everything I've wanted for years. As a GSW fan, I've been watching Curry break schemes for so long-- and it's amazing that we will actually get defenses tailored to some of our favorite players. It's going to be fun having full command of a quick-shot-release Curry and seeing the CPU try to stop him at all costs.

I was wondering how the matchup schemes were implemented-- any algorithm alone is going to produce things that are just a little "off". But amazingly much of these schemes and matchups appear to be curated from real life data and narratives. And they can be updated through the season. That's... even better.

What would be amazing would be game-to-game updates during the 2016 playoff reflecting adjustments that we see. That would truly be an event for us NBA and basketball gaming nerds.

Exactly Also not playing organized bball ever in my life and not know the nuances of pick and roll defense, names and what they mean of different defenses, rotations etc is gonna be a problem. Instead of studying for exams I'm gonna be studying how NBA teams defend PnR and how they rotate etc. (european football/soccer guy all my life)

Anyone has a guidebook or somethink?

Agreed. So hyped for that. So much good stuff in this blog and like 24th said, I don't know how the hell I am going to score lol. For MC, hopefully your teammates are much better.

2K11 is really looking like it's in trouble. Did not think it would be passed up anytime soon. 2K16 is looking like it will take that spot.

This is amazing. I'm a guy that does A LOT of fantasy drafts in 2k and likes to make his teams revolve around great defense. In the past, that was basically a fruitless endeavor unless I just had a bunch of Gold Badge defensive guys, but even then the post players were basically interchangeable.

Not now.

Now I can feel free to make the most fan-freaking-tastic defensive team of all-time with Dikembe Mutombo playing both PF and Center and swatting every shot from the three point line to the basket.

This was the point if my post about the live updates. He said updated like the roster. Can you imagine seeing a special defensive assignment in the real world playoffs put into the game shortly thereafter?! Crazy!
