Imagine if a slight miss left or right would result in a corresponding miss on your shot...it would make alot of greenside hazards and pinched off fairways actually come in to play. I've seen some real bad misses that result in a 5 yard miss at the end of a shot...thats just not punishing enough. I want those super slight misses on the swing stick to result in a 3-5 yard miss on your shot, and everything else kind of domino out from there.

Spot on.

In the golf club game, there is an option to have drive difficulty on normal, hard or hardest.

When it's on hard or hardest, for me anyway, it's as you describe above. Deviate slightly from straight and your in trouble.

It makes it really tense, and I find that -2 can become +2 in the blink of an eye.

It's just baffling that they would put an apparent mode for sim golfers in, yet have it play pretty much as easily as their arcade mode.

Just keep arcade and sim seperate, and build both as best you can for each group of fans. Why do they find that so hard?

A few thoughts after playing through tutorial and 18 hole round on Chambers Bay at Tour Difficulty setting.....

Frank, I have to tell you it's a bit of a mixed bag for me, Frank. Frank, I think the presentation looks really good, and the swing mechanics for the driver and approach shots feel good. Frank, I think i must have broken my putter earlier in the demo because on the green it felt like I was hitting everything with a 3 wood, Frank. And as far as the commentary, Frank...it had some ups and down, Frank, but it seemed like he said the word Frank alot, Frank.

It's really not fair to judge after that demo round considering there were so few options available while it was at 90% loading. I'm hoping when its fully loaded, the camera controls open up. I guess the lack of zoom ability could have been due to tour difficulty, but I really prefer that in my game, since it was hard to get the feel of the course from just the bird's eye view of the yardage book.

If I can't give a solid thumbs up for the game yet, I can give a 100% continued endorsement for EA Access. I'm not sure when my year runs out (I got it around madden launch time last year), but it has really been the best $30 ever spent. Trying out new games is always nice, but the ability to get full copies of NHL, Madden, and Fifa 6 months or so after there release has been amazing. Can't wait to sign up again.

My undying love for this franchise means I am enjoying this game, but it has a horribly half-finished feel about it. Career mode customisation options wouldn't look out of place on the PS2..its great to have next gen golf but this game feels somewhat incomplete in its composition.

I played 18 holes on tour difficulty with Rickie at TPC Sawgrass..started +3 after 4 holes and ended up one under. The golf itself is great and I like the swing mechanics, but the game as a whole feels a bit unpolished, from the menus and music to the lack of gameplay modes and customisation options. 7/10

Just shot bogey free 7 under first time out at Royal Troon. Hardest settings, tournament set up for course, winds were only up to 7mph though. Got an achievement for a bogey free round.

Getting more disappointed more I play as far as sim options go. 3 click swing is much harder but I'm not big on that mode, but I'll have to do it more for the challenge.

Really need ANYTHING to make this game harder, be it the sweet spot adjustability from Tiger 10 to ideally the second ball from 14. This one size fits all, grab the casual gamer mentality is killing my sports gaming.

Options PLEASE. The casual has all the options they want to shoot in the 40's. I need the options to make the game so hard I can't break 80 and then let me adjust from there to MY liking. So bummed right now.

this is exactly what i feared would happen what a major letdown for those of us who wanted to struggle at the hardest difficulty levels, freaking sucks

I would like to sincerely thank all you XBOX One owners out there with EA Early Access who tried the game in advance for us.

Honestly, it has saved me $50 on the pre-order and I really appreciate all the early insights (since even on Amazon you can't return opened video games)

(being totally serious)

Even if I do try the game out at some point, it's really clear that picking it up down the line used, presumably after some updates from EA, will be a better route to go at this time.

I just haven't seen enough from this game to warrant a day one purchase. I feel like TGC plays a better game of golf, and while RMPGAT has a career mode, the things it offers that TGC don't, don't stand out. The character creation is poor, the lack of information during a career is disappointing. The graphics aren't as amazing as I expected them to be.

I expect to buy this eventually, but with the lack of content right away the gameplay itself isn't worth a 60 dollar purchase for me.

Glad I have 10 hours because the first one is pretty much wasted.

Actually forget it. I found the skip option.

I'm in love. The game looks gorgeous (there are areas where the graphics re-draw in, but I'm not noticing framerate drops at all).

I set up to Tour swing with all the aids turned off (still used Shot Shaping because that actually makes the game harder by changing the plane of your swing in order to use draw/fade). Felt like there was strategy on the holes.

My theory on why people are not missing left/right (and I'm only on Normal swing difficulty right now): No one cares about the distance of their clubs. I was having a hell of a time getting a Perfect on the foreswing, but as soon as I started trying harder the ball ended up sailing left and right on me.

On the Tour swing type, I had no issues with the putt interface. The different cameras are going to make turning the grid off a reality, so very excited to get to that point.

Love the courses. Played Paracel Storm on a whim and while it is definitely a fantasy course (and a Par 3), it was a fun round of golf. Played both of the 'realistic' fantasy course and was very impressed. Again - some foliage redraw at times, but not enough to hinder my impression.

Atmosphere was also awesome. Crowds sound good (which takes away the dead feeling of some golf games) and commentary, while I'm sure will get repetitive like most sports games, was helpful and even funny at times.

Played an online match with ChaseB - Wasn't a fan of the lack of commentary or the crowd noise being gone. You can see the other golfer if they are far enough away from you, or you just see their ball. You have a timer (somewhere around 2:30) to play each hole. Would definitely had been better with party chat going.

I was streaming for ~50 people last night and most were impressed by what they saw for the most part. My few hours with it confirmed my want to preorder without a doubt.
Awesome. Can't wait to tee it up on PS4.

I should've stayed away from this board this weekend. I'll still be picking up this game as I'm on ps4. But man, total buzzkill after reading more of these impressions.

I'm not nearly as picky as most people on here. I've had lots of fun with every Tiger Woods game. Every last one of them. I don't imagine this will be any different so long as they add plenty of courses.
I'm not picky either so I'm definitely with you here. I just wanna have fun. I don't need the game to replicate the real thing.

If it makes me pick it back up and play again then It's good to me.

Twitter reactions have been mostly positive from what I've seen by the way.

Like you, will wait to play it myself when it comes out on Tuesday.

IMO, tempo is one of the LAST things tour pros and better golfers worry about. And like Onlooker mentioned earlier in this thread, proper tempo in this game is very misrepresented. The transition from backswing to downswing is way too quick and it leads to the unrealistic looking animations with the swings.

Tbh, when I golf IRL, the only time my game goes way off the rails is when my tempo is way wayyyyy too quick. And in this series, that kind of tempo is encouraged.

All I'm saying is make tempo the least important part of the swing stick, not the most important. You could argue that tempo is way more important than swinging straight in the swing stick's current current form because of how forgiving mis-hitting left and right is. When you watch a PGA broadcast on TV and they'll analyze a guy's swing when he misses, they'll say he was quick or blocked out or any number of terms...but those shots result in a miss left or right, not many yards short. That's all I want, emphasize the important parts of a golf swing, not the one thing you hardly ever hear them talk about with a Tour pro's swing.

Yeah, I hear you. Hard to disagree with any of that.

Not sure what that means, I've heard it mentioned by a few people. What is the "second ball" you guys are referring to?

Honestly, very little of the impressions on here have done anything to kill my enthusiasm for the game. The difficulty is the one thing I hope guys like Handsward are listening to.

Having watched a bunch of streams yesterday, the game looks like alot of fun. I'm part of two separate foursomes that have been playing this series online for years and they're all just as stoked to be playing RM online because TGC just didn't quench that thirst in any way. I'm sure there will be a bunch of guys on here that are up for games as well and that will go a long way in giving this one legs until we get some dlc and content drops.

And that's kind of the great white hope with this game. The updates. Because alot of stuff that has been mentioned on here could very well be non-issues in a year or less. Lack of courses? We know they're coming. Difficulty? Possible to patch. Things like customization and sounds and celebrations? They could all be tweaked/fixed. In the end, it's about how serious EA and the devs are about taking this from an 8/10 (which is where I think it sits) to a 10/10. The potential is there. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the heck out of what looks to be a beautiful, good playing (if slightly unrealistic/easy) and FUN game.

First, what's with the green tempo ball, is that new? It doesn't seem to be removable since tempo is so important but I feel like I'm watching a green ball instead of my golfer swing.

This leads to my next question: do you always just swing away and let wherever you aimed the arrow control the distance? If I remember correctly back in the ps2/xbox days if you had a shot that was between clubs you either club down and powerboost or take something off the longer club. While playing on Tour difficulty the former wouldn't be an option but I feel the old way was much more fun and challenging. Trying to figure out what 80% of a full swing was and then trying to execute to me was classic TW golf. Now it's just aim the pointer, adjust for the wind (unless playing on arcade which shows you exactly how the wind will shape the ball which is pathetic even for "arcade" mode) and take a full swing = success. If you have to take off some tempo that would be one thing but when I played yesterday I just did the same standard swing every time and it pretty much always went right at where I was aiming.

If anyone knows what i'm talking about and could clear it up for me some or let me know that I'm completely wrong I'd appreciate it.

You are spot on man
Tiger woods 07 for xbox was perfect when it came to feel and swinging and hitting your yardage.. It was pure skill
This game is a hot mess!! I hate saying that but i wont even finish my 10 hour trial

It feels like a slideshow golf game.. there is zero feel with the swing.. Try it yourself everyone. Try to hit a swing and hit the ball 10 yards . You cant do it.. golfer will hit it at least 50 percent ..
Its a laggy framerate stuttering hot mess.

Breaks my heart i was really looking forward to it

Chairman, we just have different wants and needs from a golf game. TGC is loved by most on here, to me it was a barren, soulless experience that I can only play one or two rounds of at a time. It was a nice game, especially considering the size of the studio that made it and keeping price in mind... But it wasn't my cup of tea for long stretches.

This game, from what I've SEEN, is what I like in a golf game. Just hoping they make it tougher.

Been watching the developers twitch stream.... Something that seemed really apparent, and I'm hoping someone can clear up.....

In the golf club.... A big part is elevation. I.e the green is 30 foot downhill, so take of 10 yards to account for that.

In rmpgat it seems they literally just put the aim marker by the hole and then swing. They were playing on the Grand Canyon course and a par 3 pin was like a mile below them, lol, and they made no adjustment at all.

Does that not need to be taken into account in this game?

On Arcade mode, with the blue arc, it takes all that into account for you. Millennium was streaming last night and you very much need to take all that into account on Tour mode.

I was already disappointed in the lack of courses. I've gotta say I am also disappointed in the gameplay. Everything just feels clunky. The game is pretty looking no doubt. But the gameplay just lacking. Nothing feels all that fluid. It kind of reminds me of World Series Baseball 2k1 on Dreamcast. The game was graphically amazing at the time. However the gameplay was so automated and lacking to the point that the graphics didn't matter. That how I feel. I'll finish out the 10 hours on the access trial, and then it's back to The Golf Club for me.
