NBA 2K16 News Post

2K Sports released a new episode of NBA 2KTV today, complete with some of the first details of this upcoming year's game. Here are some of the highlights:
  • There will be more retro/classic teams in this year's game. Three teams were revealed: '99-'00 Raptors, '07-08 Celtics, '00-'01 Lakers. Based off of Scott's response, more teams will be revealed at a later date.
  • Some new shoes have been confirmed for Dwyane Wade and Klay Thompson. They are currently trying to get BrandBlack and Jamal Crawford's shoe in the game. Shoes are getting 3D scanned, so they should look a lot more realistic this year.
  • Reshot all of the crowd animations this year. A lot more exciting and pumped up animations to take the atmosphere to the next level as well.
  • Mike Wang: Biggest and most challenging year with gameplay yet. They're working on something big, it'll make the game look significantly better than any game before it.

At the end of the Mike Wang segment of the 2K16 preview, he says two words which the editing cleverly covers up. The details in the video are certainly solid, but we're even more anxious now to hear what else the 2K crew has up their sleeve for this season.

Any guesses on the 'big thing' they're working on for this year?

It is definitely some feature about animation, might be "real-time collision"?
I really hope Mike said "TNT presentation"...... obviously, he didn't responsible for that part

If it's said by Mike is probably has to do with gameplay, definitely hoping for better collision detection.

Awww yeahhhhh! Bring on the '99 Bulls next! Oh, they meant classic good, not classic bad. Well ****.

But nah, this is a nice little unexpected tidbit. Now if we could get Playoff mode, Creating a Legend and Start Association Mode Today features back we'll be in business. Czar, LD, somebody get in somebody's ear for those lol.

I like this happening because it adds different teams and eras into the game. I am starting to get bored of playing with NBA teams and players. And wanted to start a MyLeague with all the classic teams. And it was hard to make it so there weren't any duplicate players in this historical league.

With no offense at all, I really think there are already too many Bulls classic teams in the game...

Truth, any Bulls team from that era without Khalid El-Amin is basically pointless (no offense to Kornel David).

1. Better Servers , 2. How about full instructions on how to play the game, not some video, doesn't nothing make me more madder than doing what the "quote video says only to know that there is some other move that 2k hasn't told you about. 3. The ability to practice your game , low post, plays fts, How in the world is 2k expect us to play their game the right way if you don't teach us the right way. Ability to turn shot meter off during a game online, i thinks players shoot 2 different ways with & without the meter. Hopefully Ai is smarter, meaning if i have a damn fast break 3-1 & a pass is made & the stick is pointed toward the basket, the darn player goes to the basket, instead of just stopping on the baseline. At deadball stops, players sub but sometimes they don't, perimeter d has to be improved, zig-zag has to go & Baseline cheese does too. And this BS about hitting the backboard on a released shot is asinine.

I don't think we need RTP but I think a better collision detection is something that is needed, but Czar but I think I actually know what the big Wang announcement is.

The big Mike Wang announcement has to do with animations or visual.

"It is going to make the game look significantly better than any game that was made before it"

There are only a couple of things that can make the game look better, better scanned models which they didn't announce but I think was pretty much leaked already. The players faces are already scanned so now they may have added scanned arms to get full body scans. While I don't know how difficult this is it doesn't seem something that body scans should be stressing out the A.I. Engineers

The other thing that would make the game look significantly better is signature movement and I can see how this could stress out A.I. engineers especially because it involves capturing different running styles and would mean they have to animate a bunch of different players running movement style.

The two words are Signature Ecomotion

Basically 2K roots are deeply set into Signature everything, shots, dunks dribbling and even celebrations now. This new Signature Ecomotion will basically incorporate signature running syles and movement so that players will now run, move more like themselves. It is the next level of blurring the lines between TV and video games and I think it will make the difference in players really noticeable when playing and viewing.

This idea came up in a 2k15 Simulation idea thread while they were making 2K15 someone mentioned something about signature movements and I just ran with the Signature movements

1. Signature movement/Running: I really like that running idea. I actually feel the players are running up the court too fast. They need signature running. The default moving up the court without turboing is too fast.
Westbrook runs on his tippy toes
Hibbert sort of plods of the up the court
Perkins has this running where his knees are high as he runs and he is usually one of the last one coming up the court
Noah sort of swings his head back and forth as he uses his arms like he is struggling.
Giannis, KD, Wiggins are long stride runners them dudes run like gazelles out there

Even online, the classics have generally had a pretty solid 8-man real-person rotation. I know there can be times where one of the fakes finds himself on the court, but I'd certainly prefer that to nothing. The exception would be a team like the one you mentioned, where Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once existed in 2K but subsequently removed his rights.

Yeah they did finally make it so you can edit thos fake players, but personally I just feel if your not going to have every teams top players in it along with not actually having all the names in the data base, instead of having them be called by a stupid nickname or #, then its a waste of memory, and they could use that to make D League once again, but make it much better compared to what they did have it back when they had it in, and make sure those D League players names can be edited too. JMO but I think people would get more use out of having D League in and playable in My League, My GM, or My player over having classic teams with a lot of missing key players. I only play offline, but I do enjoy when I 1st get the game to play the classic teams as well as the Euro teams in exhibition games. I think it would evn be neat to have Euro League in My League modes, too, and I really thought when they 1st put Euro teams int hat I wouldn't care to play with a bunch of foreign teams, but have to say I was wrong and really do enjoy those teams.

Did anyone else notice the rocket/blazers versus(demo mode) wipe screen during the crowd guy's interview??? I wonder is that the interface thats going to be in 16

Two words: competition works. They went and worked on shoe models, a.k.a. that one thing Live was better at.

Let's hope we also get exploit free gameplay, even with no competition on that front.

I am pleased that classic teams were added this upcoming year. This is encouraging.

I am looking forward to hearing more; so far the steps highlighted are all in the right direction to keep me happy. News about the MC presentation and implementation will be critical to me this year.

Sneakers and crowds being scanned, while not high on my priority list, is still something I can appreciate. Both of these things are positives that will improve my enjoyment.

Thanks goes to the entire 2k team for their dedication and work.

FINALLY!! 2K recognizes the love for retro teams!!

Here's hoping for more, preferably, 90's teams!!

I feel you, but I can't think of a ton of classic teams included that are missing their top players. It seems 2K opted only to include classic teams if their top and key players were accounted for. The only squads I can think of that are really missing big guys are the '85 76ers, '87 Lakers, and '02 Kings (since removed).

In the Lakers and Kings' case, the star players (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Chris Webber) were included and playable when those teams were originally added and in Philly's case, it looks like Barkley was signed but then it turned out he'd only do the Dream Team (not a regular classic) so it appears to be a situation where they thought they had him and planned a team in response but then got left high and dry.

In all those cases, I was actually glad 2K didn't remove the teams after they lost the players (though, again, I think they did finally pull the Kings). It's kind of tough to replicate Abdul-Jabbar without goggles but people made some incredibly realistic Webbers and Barkleys, and I think both names may have been in the database (not to mention, their signature movements were already in the game). So being able to pair a realistic Barkley with Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, and Moses Malone at the Spectrum with the real jerseys (and short shorts) was wonderful, and worth it.

As for the D-League, I've always been a proponent. However, I've also been skeptical as to whether they'd ever be able to fill up those rosters realistically, with real players. My angle has always been for a fully editable D-League, like MVP Baseball 2005, and I don't think it'd have to be a "Classics or D-League" thing. I believe there could be co-existence.
