NBA 2K15 News Post

GameInformer has posted 44 details on NBA 2K15's presentation and gameplay, as well as MyCAREER, MyLEAGUE, MyTEAM and 2K Heroes modes. Below are some of the key items of interest, but be sure to read the entire list here.
  • A new create-a-player interface gives you more tools than ever before to create players you can place on NBA rosters. You can tweak everything from forehead and jawline to ears, eyes, and lips. Many of the facial features and hairstyles are pulled from other NBA players, so if you want to rock the Ginobli bald spot with the sharp Artest cheekbones you can.
  • After big plays, Visual Concepts has worked in new camera angles to highlight player reactions.
  • To improve the defense and make A.I. players look more in control, Visual Concepts fixed how they move in small spaces, making it look less frantic. They are much better at avoiding overreactions and react more fluidly when adjusting to offensive movement. Since they stay at home, it's easier to re-orient yourself when you switch to a new defender as well.
  • To help differentiate between teams after a set play breaks down, each one uses their true base set in NBA 2K15. Now when you play the Heat, which Jones jokes doesn't truly have a big (sorry Bosh), they will run a four-out one-in set. The Spurs, on the other hand, will have three-out two-in base set.
  • During your second year, Doc Rivers will take over as the head coach of your team. Players will have a more intense relationship with Rivers than with the coaches from last year, as he has expectations for how he wants you to perform and what you should be focusing on in a particular game situation. These include tutorial-like pre-game meetings with assistant coaches where they go over points of emphasis.

I'm not too bothered with the Rivers thing but it's certainly not something that ruins the mycareer experience, I mean really who cares who your coach is, I just want to drain BUCKETS.
It is to me. I don't like story modes in sports games, hate them really. That's just me though.

I probably won't touch MyPlayer too much now, why? I can probably watch Chris Smoove videos and get the same experience. That's what worries me, that the game will force my player down into a path I don't want. I rather not have the voice overs and it just be more open-ended. That's just me though.

Everything else though...I can't wait for this game. Even if I never touch myPlayer, seems plenty to do with the franchise modes and maybe even a park mode and MyTeam.

I'm not sure how the devs could do something like have a coach as a mentor figure without him following you to whatever team you sign for. This is a damn good feature, but unfortunately they only had the time or chance to get one coach able to do voice over work and as such they had to find a workaround.

I know some of you would prefer to have the Coach speak via text, but for me that's horrible, it breaks my immersion every time. To have one character with a voice over and then the response be via text, it annoys me immensely. So I'd rather have Doc follow me than my coach respond via text all the time.

Also, I'll probably end-up playing 3-4 different instances of MyCareer, so what if i get the same cutscenes? For me the story is the icing on the cake, I still have the freedom to play for whomever I want, in whatever position i please, this story doesn't prevent me from doing that.

I'm joining the celtics as a big man, time to bring doc back home even if it's just a video game.

Agreed, just playing games like NBA 2k10 gets boring after a while, at least give me a story to show me I'm headed somewhere

Euroleague returns with an expanded roster and playbook of plays tailored
just for Europe. Euroleague is available for play in MyLeague as well.
Does this mean all 30 teams +Euro teams? Players can sign overseas?

Nobody is ignoring that man we've already talked about it. At this point the game is on a disc. ... don't let it raise your blood pressure.

Wish list it. .. maybe even for the patch but you're preaching to the choir.

Immersion killer is the new made up buzzword.

You guys are going to complain yourselves out of any enjoyment by release.

at least tell them what they are doing right add well so that doesn't change. All guys do now is day what's wrong or what they don't like over and over.

This is likely the best bball game we've ever had potentially but seems like it doesn't matter nowadays

The ability to use current players' features in Create-A-Player is huge. Hopefully you can choose somebody's hair when you do a face scan, I think there are a couple guys in the league with my cut.

THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!THANK YOU!

This! We spend so much time needling the game for what it doesn't do right and forget to reinforce what is done right. If any of you have kids, it's like if you raised your kids by saying NOTHING to them until it's time to discipline them. And, when it comes to this board, you yell at the child. After a while, that kid either tunes you out or just straight up rebels to spite you.

Btw, 23, Its safe to assume the shot meter is completely tied and synced to the shot animation...

For the life of me, I don't see how people get this perception. VC is a completely different company with a totally different work culture. Not to mention being led by a guy that is a truly a huge gamer and the exact opposite of a "suit". VC has always seemed to have been driven so much by gaming and ambition, sometimes, they bite off too much and ship unpolished games in my opinion. Listen to the Leftos podcast and how they work! He stepped in as a passionate kid off the streets, asked what HE had a passion to do, and boom! Done. He was doing it! How does that sound like a culture that would slow down or coast?

Any confirmation that you don't need to use server based saves?

Is there anything stopping you from creating a player outside of MyCareer, putting them on whatever team you want, and then player locking games in MyGM or whatever the franchise mode is called? If the whole story telling aspect annoys you, then don't play it.

Relax.
I wasn't saying you. I was following up on the point and you see it all the time. "Without competition/Live, they are going to get lazy". It's the current Live battle cry and it's silly. Not the benefits of comp, but the thought they would definitely slack.

Either way tho, this game has me pumped beyond belief.
I think the board is losing a bit of perspective.

It's at the point now where random noobs think they can come in and dump on the owner of the site and thus is where I have a problem because OS is not a dumping ground.

If I don't like a mode I don't continually harp on it because it wasn't tailor made for ME. Truthfully being here awhile some of these guys already know how to get a point across to the company. . Not act like you've been hoodwinked because they're trying something new.

I've had issue with the unis and things same as you have and let it be known but man what can I do? Shoot I'm going pc...they'll fix this other than that talk to the guys when I can...start a constructive consice point thread and hope they can do it... I have one in starting again this year matter of factly.

...and you know I despise that we can't talk with the devs. None of this stuff matters if the game play is bad but I see some guys would rather go on major rants about a fluff mode. ..yes because it's definitely not what I see on tv. There are so many great things we do see and I can't even tell if it matters anymore.

Do you really think they're hovering over to read through this? All of this haze gives anyone a headache after awhile...and talking about complacent?

I'd love some true comp. Some real true comp.... but you guys aren't railing on the company that says it only worked on 2 things and still have delay issues. Nope... nobody cares because we're too busy screaming about everything and I mean everything we don't like. ..then say we need competition.

I'm not a fan of some things in this game I'm not a fan of their marketing tactics for sure... it gets on my nerves that I have to guess what's done under the hood by scalping for bootleg videos and thinking over complaints from the last year while the dudes with the info are holding it back in the name of hype and follow me....

Yo I don't even care about ratings overall that much and I find that ridiculous because it's something you want me to pay my money for and no I don't find it fun or exciting.

Anyway I'm just tired of all the whining and I'm not talking about everybody but there is definitely some lost perspective here.

Some of these guys need to go outside and play at the park with some real people.

Yup, someone already suggested that. Just play MyLEAGUE with one team, turn everything on auto so there's an actual 'owner' making the calls and then use a created player, lock him so only you can play him in game, and then give yourself skill boosts based on how much VC you've been getting. It's a little work around if someone wants nothing to do with the story

Wait so can you only scan your face in MyPlayer? or can you scan your face in regular create-a-player?

Some really good info here. THe rivers thing 1 not a huge deal. 2 not as unrealistic as the board making it out to be. 3 years is along time in the basketball world. Alot can happen look at the league 3 years ago. i think the thing to focous on is the DIRECTION they are going and the potential it has. More dynamic/branching story lines are clearly the most logical progression for this. But we should be aplauding them for the coach interaction and the level of realism this presents.Ive been hoping for this for years and 2k made a major step in the right direction in my opinion .

I think someone confirmed it to only be on the MP creation menu.

I don't think anyone is saying they aren't striving to do amazing things and that we don't appreciate that. We do and it's nice to see. The problem is they are going about it the wrong way (case in point the Doc thing). While you can say it doesn't seem far fetched, it actually is when you really think about it:

1. Doc is coaching the Clipps because of CP3 and Blake Griffin
2. It's LA
3. He comes to coach you in your 2nd season

In any logical world how does that make sense? Especially if you are in Detroit or Sacramento. And since you can choose what team you want to tryout and play for what if I want to make the Spurs, would the Spurs really fire Greg Poppovich for Doc Rivers? It's heavy handed and unnecessary just because Doc recorded some audio(how does this even fit the "story" everyone alludes to). I get they want you to closely follow what the coach wants, but that'd be fine without having to force this upon you.

I know there are players out there that like this and think it's cool, but there is going to be a vocal contingent out there that doesn't because it's not the essence of what they came to love in the mode years ago. Do I want the barebones 2k11 mode? Hell no, do I want the Doc Rivers stalker version either? Nope. There is a middle ground, but for now it seems like they are going for the "cool" and "this is awesome." Improving upon the new with elements of its roots should be the goal and not complete unbelievable fantasy mode.

(btw by going completely linear they are boxing themselves into a corner of extra work each year because now the story has to be different every cycle. Also, there is no reason for more than one playthrough because you've seen the cutscenes)

Again I reiterate I don't hate myplayer/mycareer and it is/was one of my fav modes. I also think them doing this stuff to liven up the mode is great, but they are going about it wrong in some aspects.
