NBA 2K15 News Post

It looks like 2K Sports will have a face scanning solution similar to EA's Game Face technology. Users will be able to scan their face into the game with their Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

Users can play NBA 2K15 with a player face that looks just like them. Check out the video at KTVU.

UPDATE: Ronnie has chimed in on Twitter. Looks like we'll see more soon.

Dangit. Was really excited about doing so then I realized that this is the missing feature on PC.
Hopefully I can make myself look realistically using 'sculpture' thing.

Not sure if this was supposed to be some kind of secret for later in the day. The Associated Press just moved a story on it. That means every outlet will be reporting it ASAP:

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "NBA 2K15" is angling for a slam dunk with an innovative new feature that allows players to put their game faces on.
The developers of the interactive basketball game are adding the option for gamers to digitally graft lifelike 3D renditions of their faces onto virtual players in the series' latest installment, set for release on Oct. 7.
The process uses the cameras for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game consoles to amass several angles of gamers' faces. It then renders photorealistic 3D models on screen that can be tweaked and placed onto the bodies of virtual players in the game's career and online modes.
The face mapping marks the latest effort by a game creator to add virtual representations of players in a game.

Cool stuff and I'm happy it's in the game, but it's a feature I will never use.

I wonder if we could use this and scan pictures of Legends from computer and create the ones missing from rosters or even create new teams.

this is my pipe dream as well. doubt its possible tho, idk. and also. we don't know if this scanning feature is only for MyPlayer and not the normal create a player feature(which is where we create players that we can upload to the 2k network)

I work for a company that uses the Xbox Kinect for tracking and mapping using custom software. This allows the camera to see where you are and essentially take 3d images of you and your location. The bottom line is the Xbox One and PS4 cameras are more than webcams....they collect all kinds of 3d data and spatial information from the environment in addition to taking photos or video. This is something that a PC webcam cannot do.

I would guess that the software on the PS4 and XBone are utilizing these depth cameras....therefore they can get a really good idea of your facial features and recreate them as a 3d model. The PC...with webcam however, cannot do this. Of course, there are depth cameras and a new Xbox Kinect camera designed for PC but I would guess these aren't used by very many people on PCs that are not developing software. 2ksports likely will not commit a lot of programming time to a feature on the PC that will likely not be used by many.

Looks cool though.

Too bad EA took this out of Madden, a year after they brought it in......

I had been looking fora reason to buy a PlayStation camera for the longest time, now I finally have one.

I'm 5'3 so this might be the closest I ever get to playing basketball in the NBA, lol.

Mad props to 2k if this works out well for everyone.

You'll be amazed by the number of pc users that own a PS3 camera which you can find for 1 or 2 pounds here in the UK. I also use the PS3 camera on my pc for this software : http://store.steampowered.com/app/274920/
It is also simple programming for 2k devs porting this feature into pc (they might have developed it on pc too..). I guess they just don't want this feature on pc's for reasons unknown.

Damn that's a great idea. Now I just need to get Barkely, Miller and a few others to come to the house.

Face Scanning....Unbelievable!

A part of me wonders what we will be able to do in 10 years time!
