games feel the same because cpu team strategies are basically all the same...

line 1, overload, prefers carry in then dump and low energy
line 2, behind the net, dumps more, and cycles
line 3, dumps more, cycles, high energy
line 4, crash net, dumps a lot and high energy.

All teams NZ setting is 3/6,

I edited nashville to have conservative attack, nz preference to be high, 1-4 forecheck and 1-2-2 red, and it felt totally different than playing against their default strategies.

sucks that you can't save strategies, but this is probably why....

Ok just some food for thought guys as I saw someone suggest near default allstar sliders so I set up a game and only changed cpu aggression to 6 , faceoff to 4 and both hu and cpu strategy to 4 and goalie reaction and cover to 6 and I already have 2 PP in the first period alone with 8 min periods

So just like the show when everyone tries to paint there perfect picture it effects all other aspects of the game and causes many little problems so adjusting or gutting the sliders from near default is the actual problem .

i want the cpu goalie to cover up the puck more and get whistles.
does setting goalie passing to 0 and goalie cover to 6 actualky do this?
i dont really notice a difference

I also didnt mention I play with Hybrid controls so theres no protect puck button so I turn alot to protect the puck in both zones so when the cpu tries to get the puck I get trips , slashes ect by moving last moment

Hi Read above as I use 6 cover and 6 pass and its as good as it can get as they will play loose pucks with nobody around and cover pucks in light traffic as it should be .

I think the overall gameplay is for the most part improved, skating, stick handling, and collisions all feel better to me. My one complaint about the gameplay is there seems to be no collision detection for the stick of the puck carrier. As the puck carrier you can take your stick with puck attached and bring it right through the sticks, legs, and skates of the opposition like you are constantly doing a magic trick. This is a huge flaw to me and wasn't an issue in 14. If it wasn't for this I would be raving about the new gameplay engine.

Onto the missing modes, 90% of the game modes we know from previous NHL games are gone including what I think was the most fun, EASHL. This is beyond unbelievable to me considering the popularity of the mode. I played EASHL with many guys regularly, and the majority these guys who would always poke fun at me for not playing the new game every year right at midnight are passing on NHL15 altogether. Leaving out EASHL is again, an unbelievable blunder. Be A Pro and Be A GM are there but so stripped down they are unplayable IMO. All of these missing game modes are simply inexcusable, and an indication to me that EA is choosing not to fund the development of the NHL franchise properly.

As a guy has spent hthousands of hours playing EA NHL games for years now I must say after this installment I am dying for 2KSports to come back to hockey. It's clear EA doesn't care about producing a quality product, they are simply taking the money of poor fans who have no other choice of a hockey game at this point.

Ok after playing since 10 am wed till 3 am Thursday Im settling on playing near default Allstar as this game is programmed so much like mlbts with the tilted ice which is very realistic this year and just not boost mode when the cpu mounts an attack.

But the huge slider for me on default is the attribute slider effect which is on 5 with default and I was getting too many high scoring games but once I brought it down to 3 and players play more to their skill I now struggle with bad teams and have more success with better teams so EA really must have did alot of AI work under the hood as Im now icing the puck do to the pressure or Ill pay !

I also cant tell you how many different type of penalties I saw since I went back to near default and a few ejections too so you might wanna think twice about tweaking sliders especially shooting accuracy so low as all these little things in my opinion just like the show can really wreck and skew how the game is programmed to play so thats my two cents and thanks to all that helped me better understand how this addictive great game is programmed

Extra Bonus : My last game I was getting killed by the Preds and man handled as they were out shooting me 14 - 7 and up 1-0 on a PPG but I battled back in the second on a 4 on 3 PP and tied it up then Neal preds got a 5:00 minute game misconduct for creaming little kaner so I went up 3-1 and had a 23 -22 shot advantage but then the preds put on the heat and though I won 4-2 with a ENG they out shot me 39 to 27 in the end and Craw stood on his head ! I went 2 for 4 on the PP and the cpu went 1 for 4 on the PP and just a really good game with a great back and fourth flow and I have never been out shot and out hit in a game and even the TOA was only 2 minutes difference and now time for bed after a little pizza pie !

Hey Man I havent been this excited about playing a sports game in a long time , maybe NFL2k5 ? and I think there line on the back of the box was " IT WILL OWN YOUR SOUL "

So maybe EA NHL can use that for NHL 16

But what you said above says it all and thats when you know a game is great when you just cant wait to play it and Im about to start another Marathon but I cant wait till EA NHL 15 releases the new free content for September which is Playoff Mode and 3 stars .

Let's hope its September and let's hope it's an improvement patch besides these 2 updates. One more they should add in is in game stats when you score, etc.

I hear yah but only a few weeks left

and I was originally worried will there be issues with the updates but I think thats why there not releasing other modes with more depth as there would probably be issues they couldnt address and I hope they dont mess with gameplay that much as I finally locked in my sliders .

What is your minutes setting at. I use the same default sliders with that thing set to 3 too.

Offline this game plays like a champ. Online? Completely different story. I've now played nearly 50 games online and all but maybe three of them were poke-check spam/OP hitting and one-timers. Not sure why I expected better but I did.

If you are looking for an enjoyable hockey game, then this is your game as long as you are interested in playing offline. If you want to play online then be prepared to throw all hockey knowledge out the window. If you can dangle and poke check then you are good to go.

I was fortunate enough to have received this as a gift instead of putting my money into the game. I had high hopes for online play but it is fool's gold.

I dont play online much and I agree with your statement but I always thought online and offline in all sports games should have separate sliders bases for the exact issues you brought up .

update , Ok Im truly amazed at what EA has done with AI and strategy this year as I fell behind 3-0 to TB as FLA and they became more patient not really conservative or a shell as its little things like this are subtle but blow me away with the detail , very impressive and I have both hu and cpu strategy maxed

Some more Impressions as I been studying many parts of the game and today I was focusing on the hitting/checking on default and though a tad to powerful I understand why but if you take out that factor its really well done collision detection wise as Seabrook nailed Gaborik on a weird angle so his head lead the way and his helmet came and Seabrook went to one knee as Gaborik landed perfectly and spun on his side and back and I was left breathless of what I just saw !

I took 3 photos and a video in sequence and if I figure out to load them here I will but this type of collision detail is incredible to me and Im shocked more havent mention and no player through player everything was solid ?

punchewait this hit baby , just sayin and Oh " Its in the game " and no ghosting and perfect body collision detection and whoever said teams dont play like themselves are crazy as the kings are checking the heck out of me and on me like white on rice .

Lol. I agree with a lot of what you say, as I'm also enjoying the game. But it's very hard to read your posts when there's not a single period in the entire thing.
