BL8001 what difficulty are you playing on?

Earlier today I was playing as Liverpool vs Chelsea. Oscar had the ball and was rushing towards my back 4. Instead of waiting and keeping my back 4 organized I made the mistake of jogging towards Oscar with my RCB who was Kolo Touré. The next thing that happened caught my eye, my RB (Glen Johnson of all people) decided to cover for Touré and at the same time my LB took a step towards my LCB, totally shutting down any space between my defenders, it was a thing of beauty as smart defending in FIFA doesn't occur often. I'd like to see more of this in the full game. This was on legendary by the way.

After playing some more games there were some other things I've noticed:

- CPU teammates (besides not winning 50-50 balls) barely attempt to go for the ball, they are too passive and I've to fight for the ball by myself although when I change payer it's already late.
- Keepers lack instinct to go for the second save on loose balls, I have been scored a few times that way even if the ball was centimetres away from them.
- I've lost possession several times because I made a pass to a player that was going to the opposite direction of the pass respecting momentum, found that quite nice even though I gave the ball away.
- I don't know if I was imagining this but during a game the opposite team subbed a player who scored the only goal in the game and was cheered by the fans louder than other players, is this a thing or it was just me?
- Seeing off-ball fouls is refreshing, got called a couple times when an attacker made cut and my player made him stop.
- Sideback are useless while defending, I've already mentioned it in a previous post but it's eyesore to me (I'm playing in World Class by the way).

Besides those things I found that a way to avoid the opposite team to go through midfield without much resistance is to set every midfielder in team assistance to get back on defense (can't remember on top of my head how it's named), now the other team takes more time to go to my goal and pass more between them since there are fewer gaps to go through. Hope it helps someone who complained about the lack of midfield action, I'll try play more games if it works as I think.

Pro the majority of the time with just a few WC games sprinkled in.

This is coming from previous fifa's...I have never been a fan of how EA scales the difficulty. To me pro is the last difficulty level before EA start crippling your team.

Removing sliders from the equation the skill levels work like this. The more you raise the level the dumber your team gets and the more cheaty the CPU gets.

It's that dumbing down of my squads players that drives me crazy. I don't see any other sports games change the difficulty this way. What I mean is if you play on semi pro all of your players run around like wunderkind making daring runs and tracking back, keeping shape and just playing all around nice futbol.

On 14 and prior titles once you transition to world class my players become sluggish and don't make the same runs get disorganized on the pitch, ignore threats, etc. while the CPU gets every single 50/50 bounce go their way.

Also, and this is just a feeling I guess, but I swear on 13 and 14 the game even controlled better, tighter, more responsive on am semi pro and pro.

Which fifa was it where people swore pro and WC were flipped? Was it fifa 12?

Has anyone curled a pass?

There were rumors, I think EA even claimed you could, of curled passes in the WC game.

I played it and you couldn't curl passes.

If it was ever to happen in a fifa I would assume it would just be hold the left stick the way you want to pass, hit pass button and then swivel the L stick the way you want it to curve. Much like how you curl a free kick.

It should be RB + pass but that does some of the silly and fairly useless trick passes. A nice curled pass using that button combo would be really useful and it would look ace.

I am going to jump in and try it in an hour or so.

What? I didn't know this. I've been fouled in a spot so few times to even have a chance at making a free kick I never bothered to learn the ins and outs of them. I had no idea this could even be done.

Yeah in the FK skill game on 14 you can curl them like crazy. I wish it was like that in the full game. It's toned down a lot in the full game but you can still do it.

To curl, let's say you are 25m out. You can just hold up while powering up to dip the kick.

You can also hold up and as you power up the kick roll the stick left or right to add swerve. So go from 12 to 9 to bend left or 12 to 3 to bend right (on the stick). This is for a righty.

Man after patting tons of FIFA 14 on the PS3 and a bit on the PS4, the ball physics passing and player movement are glorious. I love how the ball keeps momentum during the players first touches.

And man I caught Aubameyang on the wing with a pass starting a counter I never would have been able to make in 14. Awesome.

Also, glad Aubameyang has a scanned face now. A nice surprise

Man I can't wait for 15 now. Just wish creation centre was on PS4. I got six guys I loved using on the PS3. At least give us the similar CAP options like on the web app in game.

I don't know about everyone else, but finally after years I'm seeing a decent number of fouls!!! And, the CPU has been getting 1 or 2 cards per game on World Class.

But, after buying the PS4 specifically for the "next-gen Fifa experience", I'm largely underwhelmed by the demo. Yes, all the superficial fluff is there, but it still has most of the glaring flaws we've been dealing with for years.

Ah well. Still going to buy the game anyway, cause I love football!

Well after spending some time with the PS4 demo today, I can say that I am both impressed and disappointed.

I was impressed by the presentation of the game itself. It was a really cool pre-game setup as they showed the lineups, and the stadium looked great with the new lighting. The players looked the same as 14, but now all have huge shoulders and arms. These guys are football players not rugby players, so it looked a little strange. Overall, I'm happy with how things look graphically. It isn't an improvement across the board, but it all builds up the gameday experience quite nicely. One thing to keep in mind though is that these graphical enhancements are really only interesting for the first few times you see it. Gameplay will be the most important thing after you've spent a few days with the game.

Because of this, I am disappointed to say the gameplay left me the least impressed. It feels very similar to 14, but with little tweaks here and there. The dribbling did feel better and better as I played more, but that is just one small part of the gameplay. I found the shooting to be pretty bad, with keepers going into beast mode every time you hit a normal shot, but then keepers being beaten easily when you finessed. Like others have said, there isn't much midfield play in the game either. Defending on the other hand seemed unrealistic as you could easily slide tackle the computer as they made their long runs with the ball. I don't think I've ever found slide tackles to be so OP in a game before. Anyone else notice this?

Finally, the goal that made me put down the game today was a classic Fifa AI goal. I was Barca tied with PSG 0-0 approaching the 90th minute. PSG gets a free kick from the halfway line. Long ball into the box where Cavani straight volleys it in at the near post. Now I know some of you may say this sounds like an amazing goal, but any long time Fifa player knows that goals like this are more often a case of the computer needing to score than it being something that was genuinely impressive. This type of thing is what is driving me mad with the series. I can only imagine that online play will be similar to 14 if these type of BS goals are still in the game.

There's some improvements here, but some of those game killers for me are still here as well. It's disappointing that EA STILL hasn't addressed old flaws in the game. I'm a long time Fifa fan, but this demo has done nothing to stop me from following the developments in PES. I would recommend others to hold off on pre-ordering/purchasing until the PES demo is released.

As others have noted, I see teammate defense is still pretty weak. It's been an Achilles Heel for the series for a while. To be fair I haven't tried upping player marking.

The game definitely feels different from 14, and the presentation is indeed very good. Still can't really tell if teams have their own style this year, and will have to play more to see about that.

On a side note, I forgot to switch the controls to where square is shoot and circle is long pass. My first possession of the demo I manage to X pass my way up to Sturridge in the box, and press square (long pass) to shoot, and the result is a perfect little chip shot over the keeper's head! Even had a defender make a leaping effort to try and keep it from going in. Looked pretty sweet, even if it was essentially a mistake.

I saw a few others things that stood out, like Aguero getting injured in a very realistic looking tackle that had him tumbling to the ground. Like I say, the game definitely feels different that 14, just not sure about the lingering issues that FIFA seems to carry over from year to year.

A couple of cool things I noticed tonight that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

* A big HELL YEAH for switching to receivers on throw-ins! It only took them three years to catch up with PES, but better late than never!

* No more dreaded FIFA BEEP! If you ever heard it you'll know what I mean, man it was annoying as all hell.

Playing on World Class/Slow/Full Manual and I don't know what else to say but this game just feels right, it may not be flawless but it's a better version of 14 and that's all I need. Well, that and Forest getting promoted to the Prem.

# 374 hunterdawgs10 @ 09/12/14 06:41 AM
Playing on WC full manual.

I think the opportunity is there to really play the close quarter passing/tikki taka football as teams like Arsenal and Barcelona play. One can accurately and effectively pass short now. Its actually hard to get used to as I found myself underhitting a lot of my passes. Encouraging signs for players who enjoy this style.

Your Liverpool posts were great btw, and they got me thinking, but since I haven't had a chance to test my theory I'll ask you, bear with me please:

In the photos, most if not all times their problems at the back stemmed from LB Jon Flanagan not doing his job, which forced the LCB to overcompensate. Do you feel that if the poorly rated Flanagan was replaced by a more accomplished LB(Alberto Moreno) that it would make a difference? If so, that would be so damn awesome!

have you noticed at all on world class if your teammates start to seem sluggish or not make as good of runs, or become complacenet at all compared to playing on pro? im just curious because i know in previous fifa's it always seemed like the higher you put the difficulty, the more ******** your team got. i played legendary on '14 and managed, but i still felt like my team itself just did not play as well, cpu got every free ball, it was just kind of lopsided it seemed... does it seem like your team is still playing how you want them to on world class this year??

I honestly didn't see the same problems with my back for a lot of people seem to have, I don't know. I played on WC and didn't touch sliders but did adjust some of the player instructions. I told my strikers to press the back line and they did, Sturridge was hussling and hounding Kompany all day without me having to do it myself. I set my CBs to "cut passes" and they would do it, sometimes they left a man open to go for the interception but I was usually able to compensate, I then tried man marking and they would pick a guy up and stick like glue, again sometimes too much but I can deal. I even had Hummels in one game dive in front of a shot, he missed but he still tried to do something about it.

One amazing new touch is now the clock keeps running ALL the time, no more stop clock during a throw in, goal kick or substitution, it runs in real time during these stoppages as to not waste your gameplay time, but it's a nice touch that makes it seems less like a video game.

I played as Dortmund against Boca, Boca got a goal around th 75th minute and literally parked the bus! they ran to the corner flag during the final minutes and all their clearances were just hoofed out to my back foor inviting attack after attack that was like trying to break down a brick wall set up right outside the 18 yard box. Awesome! now I just hope it's not overdone, but to me it seemed natural as Boca was the underdog and the away team they'd shell up with 15 minutes to go up a goal.

Overall, I think this is a very promising demo and can't wait to start CM and play around more with player instructions/roles, create 5 different line ups for different game (league, cup, away, CL etc) without having to manually edit each time. Now hopefully they fixed the GTN a bit, but probably not.
Your right. I just played several games on different difficulties from the co-op cam just to watch defensive behavior, and without a doubt, difficulty makes a difference. On semi and even Pro, defenders did tend to miss assignments allowing for scoring ops. This did improve however with increased marking(53).
On WC(the highest I tested) defending was much better overall, but the attacking side was also much better, taking advantage if every little mistake made. For instance, Willian had the ball coming down the left wing, I was shadowing him with Henderson who then turned him over to Glen Johnson, instead of letting Hendo go, I tried to double team Willian and force a turnover. This left a gaping space just outside the area on the left side and Willian quickly took advantage, passing the ball into that space where Hazard ran onto it and created a great scoring op.
Same situation later in the match, this time I let Henderson go, and Johnson guards Willian. Unable to shake him, Willian is forced to try a cross that winds up in the hands of Mignolet, change of possession.

I'm no FIFA super strategist, but maybe it would be useful to explain the style I play. On offense, I usually make runs up the wing, sometimes sending my other players on forced runs. I played on SemiPro and WC, and to me it definitely seemed like a case of CPU defensive improvement. For example, on SP the DBs tend to sort of sit there with their mouths agape and let you blow by them for an easy cross into the box, on WC they'll contain and try to force a mistake.

On defense I try to control every "responsible" player, playing a pressure game by containing with A and rarely tackling (I never slide tackle). Either that or I'll bring another defender up with RB and try to manually cut off passing lanes. In both cases the marking feels looser, like you can't just hold A to stick to someone like glue this year. Maybe this is due to the sharper turning angles? I don't know.

Again, I'm no FIFA expert. This is just what works for me and my style of play. Oh, and the game seems MUCH more physical this year. Lots of CPU defenders making hard challenges I wouldn't have seen in earlier games, which may lead to the increase in fouls we're seeing.

Wait a second...Glen Johnson covered? Okay now I know the game is broken.

I was chalking up all those photos of atrocious Liverpool defending down to well...Liverpool's defending was atrocious at times last year.
