NHL 15 News Post

It’s official: EASHL, GM Connected, OTP, and Live the Life will not be in NHL 15.

The modes which will be in the game, will include play now, Be A Pro, Be a GM, Online Vs, Hockey Ultimate Team, and NHL Moments Live. The plan, as of right now, is to deliver Online Team Play via a patch after launch.

We sat down with Producer Sean Ramjagsingh to discuss why those modes were not included and to talk about the modes which are in the game. The discussion also turns to how to the team deals with community reactions and plans for the future of the franchise, which admittedly are quite exciting. See for yourself after the jump!

The "Core" of Be a GM mode will be there. What does that mean? Thats really the thing I care about most. It sounds like it's going to be a disaster. If this game isnt $40 dollars at launch, I am simply not buying. I was heavily disappointed with NHL 14, and this sounds like itll be worse. I wont buy it when it comes down in price afterwards, whats the point.

Anyone know if Nhl 15 will have a digital download at all. I check everyday on my ps4 at the PlayStation store for a preorder digital download but it's not there. It seems like there won't be a digital download for the game this year let alone a preorder, it's getting close to the release date of the game. I don't think they would wait this long to have a Nhl 15 preorder (digital download) ready and available right now.

Typical EA's way of making it. They'll even entertain us in few years with EASHL, OTP and GM Connected as brand new features that we're asked by the fans.

I was not sure if I would buy NHL 15, but with the answers Rammer gave in the interview, no way I'll do. There's a limit beeing taken for an idiot.

All my friends are also sticking with 14. Hopefully enough people do this and it is noticeable.

North American Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 sales have already been trending down since NHL 12:

NHL 08 -- 370,000
NHL 09 -- 740,000
NHL 10 -- 870,000
NHL 11 -- 980,000
NHL 12 -- 870,000
NHL 13 -- 770,000
NHL 14 -- 570,000

NHL 09 was the year with the largest growth, and that was the year the EASHL mode was first put in.

Wow, those numbers are kind of telling of where the series has gone since last gen debuted, if you'd ask me. I don't think it is much of a coincidence that it trends in the way that it does from those figures.

I still am wondering why EA decided to put Littman, a former goaltender, on a basketball game when he was really breathing new life into this series during his tenure in charge. Things have never really rebounded after that.

I will be speaking with my wallet. I am very disappointed. I do not understand how other games have managed to deliver complete versions on next gen but ea can not with the hockey franchise.

I didn't realize there was such a drastic change in sales with the game having EASHL vs when it didn't have it. That should really scare EA.

I will be totally surprise if after the release of this game, Ram is still with EA NHL game. To miss EASHL, GM connected, OTP or LTL (thats what you get in trying to copy NBA MyCareer)... is unforgivable. If NHL 15 will have a tremendous decrease in sales, I am hoping that EA will seriously take an effort to improve in 16.

For the record, the most successful year was when I attended the community event.

Coincidence? I think not.

Just go look at the forums for FIFA, Madden, The Show, etc. Also, I find it funny that when given an answer as to why something was or was not included, many don't believe the answer. There are some just looking for another reason to hate EA (some of it deserved, some of it not).

I think we forget how small budget and how small of a team works on this game. Plus instead of focusing on one game, they have to put full effort into two. All indications from people who have actually played the game says it feels much different (even though everyone who only watches the videos posted says its the same). Also, you have to remember that this is NHL and created by the same studio. There are elements of the gameplay that makes it unique to them and successful (NHL2K went away because consumers decided this game was better, they didn't buy the license like NFL and MLB). There's a core foundation that will never change, so it's unrealistic to someone expect a completely different game.

Would it have been nice to have EASHL at launch? Absolutely. However, OTP will be in this year via a patch. They are forming a committee (with fans of the series to be included) to better EASHL when it comes back next year. For those who say they don't care about the audience, I'm not sure why they would include us if they didn't care. Maybe I'm more reasonable because I mostly play offline, but I do enjoy playing some EASHL to mix it up. The mode will surely be missed, but it looks like they have a great plan in place to take the game to the next level. Like everything else today, we want it all and want it immediately, regardless if it's possible or not.
This is BS to me. They skipped a cycle so they can work on a complete next generation experience, and they still managed to screw it up.

Rebuilt gameplay? What's this you speak of?

I don't play EASHL or GM Connected but removal of Live The Life is upsetting.
They're taking away modes so we're forced to spend more time in HUT.

Bingo. It's not a coincidence hut was left in. Which is a shame because online wise it's pretty much just vs mode. Eashl is a totally different experience.

THANK YOU for posting these figures. Now, can Operation Sports please arrange for an official response from EA acknowledging the fact that the REASON their sales are dropping is BECAUSE of our continued BOYCOTT of EA, thank you. We would like EA to respond to this fact and we need EA to know that we are BOYCOTTING, or they will very likely claim that the sales figures are dropping for some other reason, say, "piracy" for example. I can hear their PR marketing machine spinning now, "oh yes, it must be piracy, it can't be anything else". Thank you for listening and understanding we are boycotting EA. They have taken us for a ride for too long and they need to know their gravy train ends here, now.

I'm probably missing something here, but, will Season mode be added? I mean, c'mon now....before all the fancy GM modes & Be a Player modes, there was ALWAYS a season mode. Doesn't every sports game have a Season Mode? Some of us just so busy that all we want to do is get a game or 2 in, following the season of our fave team (NY Rangers) and be done until the next free moment. Is that too much to ask for??

Yes there is still a Playoff Mode release for September also a 3 stars and a possible player edit down the road .
This was all disclosed in another thread by Rammer .

# 260 Arrowhead21 @ 09/12/14 07:08 PM
I would rather have season mode over playoff mode. It's the only way to actually utilise the CHL or European teams aside from Play Now. I want to play through a season with the Moncton Wildcats.

Hopefully we can use non-NHL teams in the upcoming playoff mode
