EA Sports UFC patch version 1.02 is available now, which includes 3 new fighters (Takeya Mizugaki, TJ Dillashaw and Tyron Woodley) and quite a few fixes (as seen above).

EA Sports has also released a new trailer featuring the new fighters here.

Key Gameplay Updates:
  • Touch Gloves: Users will now have the ability to manually make their fighter touch gloves (or choose not to touch gloves) before beginning to fight by pressing L2 on PS4 or LB on Xbox One. This can be done at the start of every round, or anytime the ref stands the fighters up.
  • Finish the Fight: During a knockout, the attacking fighter can jump on their downed opponent and “finish the fight” by delivering extra strikes as the knockout occurs.
  • Sprawls: The defending fighter now sprawls when successfully defending against a power takedown.
  • Clinch Break from the Cage: Fighters now have the ability to break out of a clinch when pressed against the fence by pressing the L3 button.
  • Power Takedowns and Sweeps: Power takedowns and side control sweeps have been removed from fighters who would not normally have them.
  • Stamina: Stamina no longer regenerates if the user holds block. The user will also take a larger stamina penalty if hit while weak blocking.
  • Sweep Defense: The dominant fighter in the Full Guard position now has a larger window to reverse the Full Guard sweep to Mount.
Play a few matches and let us know what you think.

I've noticed two things so far, and I'm only 30 seconds into my first fight. Stamina was tweaked, if you take a good body blow, you're gassed. And you can't spam without running out of stamina anymore.

Also, I'm playing Woodley and MacDonald and at the beginning of the fight, MacDonald tried to touch gloves. I restarted the fight to double check and its in the game now. Only thing is, I don't know how to touch gloves...

Also, I saw a new sprawl animation. I went in for a single-leg takedown and he took my back rather than just shrugging me off.

This update is really good so far.

I can already give you a definitive answer on that, and the answer is no. After playing it for an hour, the AI aggressiveness and the stamina tweaks don't mesh well together. You have to play it to see what I mean. Sorry to burst your bubble.

This game is so hard after this update.. It's impossible to get a takedown. No matter how well you time it (if your opponents gassed, go in when your opponent is throwing a punch), they'll just take your back and throw bombs down on you. I've only gotten one successful takedown in 4 fights.

I dont completely agree with this. He's right that it doesn't appear they touched the AI aggressiveness in the patch. Just fought Machida on Normal and he came out the gate throwing superman punches and moving forward.

With that said, the stamina tweaks work well in my opinion if you use movement. Movement causes the CPU's stamina to drop and when they have lower stamina they dont throw punches as often. It slows their pace alot. There are more points in a round where the CPU will relax to regenerate stamina.

Its still not where we want it though. I just dont know if we are going to get what we want. I think the dev team wants an aggressive CPU so that every fight is a competitive fight. They may think thats what the casuals prefer.

On a more positive note....Finish the Fight looks great and love the sprawl animation.

FYI, touch gloves is L2 and LS toward the direction of the fighter you are facing.

Just got in my first fight post-patch and I noticed this as well, playing on normal, acc. clock, Dillashaw-Barao.

The sprawl when defending takedowns is such a welcome addition (also applies to some clinch takedowns), as is the ability to land extra shots after a knockout. I just read the patch notes and it's quite an impressive list I must say.

Now does anybody know how to touch gloves??

EDIT: ^ Thanks!!

Can't wait to try it out! Really excited about using Woodley! The CPU aggressiveness seems to be more of an issue with difficulty level. I haven't done any testing, but, I have played on Normal, Hard and Pro and it seems, FOR ME ANYWAY, that Hard/Pro offers a less aggressive CPU opponent. I could be wrong, but, my perception when fighting on those levels is that the CPU manages its stamina much better and doesn't just keep moving forward.

I can assure you this isn't the reason. I really wanted us to patch the CPU aggressiveness for you guys in this one, but the only guy who was really qualified to do the work was away on vacation and didn't get back until the patch was on lockdown.

I can't promise it will be where you want it, but there will be some CPU aggression tuning in the next patch.

That's the only time I'll break my "can't talk about future stuff" rule because I feel you guys deserve to know the reason.

I've taken barao down 3 times post-update, in three rounds. Don't use the strong takedowns, use the regular ones like the single legs, those don't trigger a sprawl animation and the window to defend them is much shorter especially when your opponent is throwing a strike.

I love that the full guard sweep is easier to defend now, alwas thought that the full guard sweep to full mount (no hand scissor sweep (??)) was a bad design decision anyway.

Great to hear from a dev here, so far these are all positive steps into a much better, more realistic game, hopefully we get a patch where only a select few guys have off the cage strikes.

Also.. I have a bone to pick with you EA Sports UFC Dev... Where's my guy Matt Brown?? Show the man some love!

edit: I used pro difficulty btw

I really appreciate the response and love the answer. I would've been ok if the answer was similar to what I said because I understand the reasoning. With that said, I'm very happy with the answer.

I see the opposite. CPU is way more aggressive in pro with me than normal. Could be different with the patch.

I found one issue while the CPU is in full guard, now that the sweeps are much easier to defend, it's easy to pin the CPU down in full guard and unleash ground and pound. They rely too heavily on the sweeps (almost exclusively even) and don't try to stand up as much, therefore it's easy to pin them down in full guard and win that way. The ref doesn't initiate stand ups too, so right now it's too easy to win via GNP from full guard.

edit: I've now sat in full guard for the past three fights and was able to end the fight that way. Too easy, too predictable, CPU not attempting to stand up, only wanting to sweep from full guard, punching while in the bottom even in a rocked state. This has taken the enjoyment out of the ground game for me. I hope they fix this quick.

I cant wait to get home and try the game now.

Is this on the hardest AI setting?

@Gameplay Dev, make sure to let Brian Hayes and crew know the OS guys appreciate the changes in this patch. Just make sure to fuel the fire on the one big change that needs to happen next.........MMAi.............getting the CPU to fight a more realistic fight would save this game in my opinion. If you guys can get each fighter "style" to fight differently where we have to constantly worry about those strengths or weaknesses then it will be a home run.

I notice this online, but it does not exist in the offline portion. If I face a online opponent of Jacare' Souza then I'm constantly hovering my thumb over the take down defense button. My #1 concern is him getting top control for a submission. Against the CPU you rarely see them play to their strengths and you as the player rarely have to focus on stopping a particular portion.

Now with all that said, this patch is a HUGE relief to what you guys are capable of doing with patches!

For reference, here's a youtube vid of my complaint.. I've been able to win this way for five straight times and I now don't want to initiate takedowns at all because this is always what ends up happening..

Yea this looks obvious it will need to be fixed in next patch. CPU does not use the L3 get up move, just sweeps.
