NHL 15 News Post

It was clear from playing NHL 15 (on PS4) at E3 today that the team at EA Vancouver still needs to optimize some things, but what was there had me believing in a lot of their new vision for the series. I got to run through several games, and the teams on offer include LA, New York, Montreal and Chicago. Producer Sean Ramjagsingh said that the dev team has “about a month to go” in terms of production. Still, while it was early, there was a lot of great stuff to see in this build.

Some good news in there. I like the news about the puke bouncing out of the next and the pile ups in front of the next. Also excited to see how it goes with the goalie being live

I bet one Mode that won't be in is Single Season Mode with Multiple Users just as it was dropped FIFA.

There were no five-man celebrations yet, but some producers claimed that they were working on celebrations right now and that there would at least be some three-man huddles (and you now see the whole line skating towards the bench after a goal, which looks good).
By no means is this a deal breaker for me, but honestly, how is this still an issue? NHL2K3, a 12-year-old game from the PS2, had group hugs!!

Also not that happy to hear that board play is still the same. I was hoping that the 'suction boarding' was gone.

Great stuff MMChrisS! Thanks for posting. Always great to read your impressions.

This is really encouraging, thanks for the update! I'm wondering if they have any information at all about the Stanley Cup presentation, as this has been stale for about 6 years now.

Thanks a lot

What about difference in players skills and team styles .. Playing with Kane and toews should be a lot different than playing w 3 rd or 4 th liners. Playing against chicago or LA should feel different than playing against a buffalo or Florida .

Lots of good news here, The presentation is taking a massive step this year

can't wait to see some gameplay

2k3 had noticeable differences in players and skills as well as team style differences.

Yes. Big NHL Boner going on now.

This does sound good. I am wondering (though I doubt there is any shot) - has there been any improvement to BeAGM mode? Any addition to the bare bones player career stat and award tracking? It still seems odd that NHL 07 on the PSP could manage to have year by year career stats, but the consoles eight years later can't manage that feat?

Great read, especially:

hitting does not result in fights as often, which is welcome.
I get tired of laying out a good hit on NHL14 then end up in a scrap.

Good write-up, Chris. How bad is the "suction effect" around the boards? It was a little overpowering and annoying in 14. Just feels like I'm forced into too much board play. Also, I know the PS4 doesn't have the ability to use custom music, but did they leave in the option to allow for it when it's added later? If not, were the correct goal songs played, or could you even hear them with all of the noise? Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the impressions!

1.) Can you ask if they will have the authentic goal horns with their correct length in game especially since for PS4 we can't put our own horns in the game until Sony releases that update?

2.) Will there be any footage soon from E3 of the game? Curious to see the NBC presentation

3.) If I am on offense and clearly have a step or two on the defenseman, will he magically catchup/back skate to where I am to cut me off?

Thanks!!

The extended poke animation has me a little worried. I'm an exceptional poke-checker (as Im sure a lot of people online are, and many people probably hate that) and I hope that it doesn't effect my game.

Actually, of bigger concern is, the new Xbox ONE controller has AWFUL bumpers that require a completely different hand/finger stretch/angle and the pressure point is solely at the end of the button. I have a feeling I'm going to despise that controller for this game.

Nice job. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. EA Sports seems to be making some nice progress with most of the franchises. I'm hoping NBA Live manages to recover and be a decent game this year too.

This will be an interesting year for EA with the NHL franchise. Debut on Next Gen consoles. Just hope they make a good first impression. From the details I like what I have read.

Haha, "ice powder". I guess we don't all live in snowy climates

Some good news and bad news in there, it seems. Very interested to see it in action though for the new puck physics.

My biggest question right now is how does the skating feel vs. 13/14?

We must remember that this is their first release on next-gen. While we may want every little detail they coudln't deliver on last gen due to hardware constraints in this game, it's impossible to fit them in first try. I love the foundation they are building on.

Hopefully next year or the following year, EA addresses some legacy issues in all games.

I can't wait for NHL. I have been surviving on FIFA and now finally The Show. But next gen NHL withdraws are most definitely in full effect. Especially during the playoffs and now that there will be no hockey. But the Kings are winning. September couldn't get here soon enough.

I wouldn''t call the animation extended. It's just different.
