NHL 15 News Post

It was clear from playing NHL 15 (on PS4) at E3 today that the team at EA Vancouver still needs to optimize some things, but what was there had me believing in a lot of their new vision for the series. I got to run through several games, and the teams on offer include LA, New York, Montreal and Chicago. Producer Sean Ramjagsingh said that the dev team has “about a month to go” in terms of production. Still, while it was early, there was a lot of great stuff to see in this build.

I just want the game to be locked in at 60fps, thats all I'm worried about with the console transition. Hopefully they don't have any issues getting there.

EA don't remove offline Season and Playoffs Mode with Multiple Users to make it returned for NHL 16 !!! We all know your old-gen/current-gen transition method...

Agreed. Meanwhile FIFA, Madden, and NBA Live all incorporate animated arena exteriors and it is a thing of beauty.

Any launch parties in the states in hockey hot beds like Detroit, Philadelphia, New York and Chicago? All the ones last year were in Canadians cites like Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa , Edmonton , Calgary. Hopefully they will have some in the USA. If not it's off to Toronto I go. I have been meaning to take my boys to the Hockey Hall of Fame anyways.

I skipped NHL 14 because I was getting a PS4 at launch, so I am very excited about 15! And so far, it sounds great!

I prefer they take the time to get it right. I am just saying that I wouldn't be quite as liberal with the "1st edition on this Gen" pass given they had the extra time.

Is the Canadian Hockey League (junior) still in the game? The contract ended up with NHL 14 and I don't know if it was renewed.

The nhl is the 1 sports game that looks awesome so far... Once they get each player and team playing like they do in reality then it will be deemed awesome

I want to be forced by the CPU into dumping the puck in or skating the puck in the zone.

I like that the net physics have been changed. That has been needed for a very long time.
Yep Bwiggy, neutral zone pressure is a pretty big deal for me too.

Last gen people complained the celebrations were cutscenes and that broke their immersion, now we have real time celebrations and people are still complaining because it's likely a bitch to program a five man hug all in real time.

I figured this would be the case from the sizzle trailer, players will hug when appropriate and the players are relatively close enough on the ice to trigger such a thing happening.
Yeah, people are complaining because they gave us a combination of 4 or 5 real-time celebrations that look absolutely ridiculous in just about every situation. You know, it might 'likely be a bitch' to code such an event, but it's their job as developers of an NHL simulation. Do you know what 99.9123856% of NHL goals end with? 5-man hug. If it's in the game, it's in the game right?

I'm 100% positive they're rendered. EA has this whole consistency thing they're going for across their entire sports line.
FIFA 15 has 10-man celebrations. Maybe someone should send a quick email to EA Vancouver and politely ask to borrow some of their programming?

I play mostly online, in a full gm connected with only a few computer teams, so I can't speak so much on CPU calls. I can say that I reitterate my original point about hitting from behind, as it is a HUGE problem online. Open ice hits in the back, most of which should be called hitting from behind, charging, holding something. The NHL Dev team seems to believe you can only be called for hitting from behind if you are up against the boards, and this is wrong. You cannot hit a player in the back at all, against the boards, it is usually called boarding, in open icem it is called checking from behind. Program it correctly for once.

It's going to be so weird seeing full coaching staff on the bench and 4 officials, and Ferraro between the benches. I feel like it'll take a while to get used to seeing hockey as it's supposed to look.

I'm going to have to check out FIFA's menu system. last gen's NHL menu system is really showing its age, so i'm really looking forward to it.

I gotta say I am not a big fan of the whol window tiles thing, and then having to move the right stick in tiles to get different modes, stuff just winds up hidden and hard to get there. Keep menus simple. I can navigate it, but this realy isn't a change I welcome.

This release is looking good so far! I mean theres some bad, but if you expect perfection you can also expect disappointment.

Right now, the way things are looking, Im pleasantly surprised how 15 will turn out considering its the first NHL game on this generation of consoles.

Honestly, they could give me the new presentation with same gameplay and I'd probably still love it. I dont think I could describe in words how pumped I am for Doc Emeric, like seriously..

If we FINALLY get a new, epic, stanely cup celebration Im gonna be one happy camper.

The problem is that there aren't enough personalities on the ice.
Guys like Carcillo, Torres and Marchand should be taking penalties all the time for hitting from behind or trips.
Guys like St.Louis and Datsyuk should never be in the box.

In NHL14, the CPU is an angel regardless of who's on the ice.

So once again, when EA finally addresses the issue of having a clear distinction between player types and attribute levels, this, and many other issues, should go away.
Winner. I buy the game every year and enjoy it but it's never a hugely satisfying experience. It's hockey and it's the best/only option I have. I have a hockey addiction. I already know I'll be disappointed again this year, but it won't be goalies or goal variety or lack of penalties or even aesthetics like player models. It will be every single player playing exactly the same and the computer using Emelin to catch up to me when Ive got Hagelin fresh off the bench on a rush.

Agreed 100%. I think they perfected menus back on the NES. I am not sure why developers feel the need to get creative in this department? 2K was annoying with their right stick menu thing a few years back, and I think I hate the Windows 8 style even more.
