Another words they will stuff every take down, parry all strikes, land counters at will, and submit or get out of submissions with ease. I'm hoping I'm wrong but that is the EA M.O.
Actually they did but it was a bit more varied. With EA MMA, the cpu does three gameplans: 1) With strikers like Fedor/Overreem, throw heavy punches and kicks until the stamina drops. 2) With wrestlers, spam takedowns constantly until it gets a takedown. 3) With grapplers like Shields and Aoik, spam the clinch. I almost quit playing the game against the CPU because of the amount it clinch spams with certain fighters until I got good at defending against it.

I dont even back pedal much. Most of the time I'm moving side to side and circling. That throws the CPU off on Easy. Same approach worked for EA MMA.

I enjoy flicking the left stick while holding left trigger and then stepping away from attacks and getting back to the center. That will slow things down.

Just wish it felt more like a legitimate strategy instead of fixing the over aggression.

I was VERY surprised at how arcade this is. IT's really like Tekken with a UFC skin.

What makes it that way is how horribly implemented the kicking game is. It's the worst aspect of the game imo. There are WAY too many flashy/highlight reel kicks - That stand-up game is screwed.

I wanted to throw a 1-2, leg-kick combo, that's jab, straight, back-leg-leg-kick, but those simple combinations dont' really work that way. Gus I had to press rb,left trigger and right kick to do a simple leg kick, yet if I press towards, and kick it's a spin back kick (can't remember exactly, but the gist is that highlight-level kicks are thrown in high volume and by accident because of their simplicity to throw).

If this was a straight boxing game, it would maybe work, but the kicking is just terrible. Some are way too fast, don't do the damage one would expect, are too flashy, are thrown in too much volume and mess up the pace of the fights in general. Fundamentals and simple yet proven techniques that are effective in the real world, take a huge back seat here.

I have a kicking background, love kicks, but hate them in this game because it horribly mis-represents mma. The big irony is one of the first in game quotes I read was bruce lee's "I don't fear the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times"!!!!!!

DID THEY READ THEIR OWN QUOTE?!?!?!?

UFC 2009 was and is a more balanced striking game with better pacing and better fundamentals and it's 5 years old. I'd rather fighters not have kicks they have used once (or never) in their career, than have this mess of cartwheels, spins and flash.

/rant

I probably will not purchase the game based on the demo, it's a cartoon version of a very serious sport.

Hold that direction until they block you. If you just flick, you only move for as long as you flick. Move until they block then switch.

+ As all can agree and was expected, beautiful graphics and cut/blood work.

+ Stamina is done well. In-game it must be taken into consideration or there will be consequences.

- Functionality is very bare-bones compared with previous combat games IMO. No feints, running, strike catches, ability to sway, cage-walk, etc...all fundamental aspects of MMA. This is the biggest gripe for me that I know will not be changed for the full game version, and unfortunately I will be waiting 2 years to see if there is improvement in the next version.

- KO's and some collisions in general are definitely awkward. I've seen awkward collision between player models when attempting takedowns that cause a fighter to go bouncing around on the mat like a WWE THQ game. Also not happy about the inability to keep attacking as your opponent goes out.

+/- I'm holding out until the full game to make any type of judgement on presentation. No reading of scorecards is a huge disappointment, and severely affects any players ability of determining how the judges score a fight in this video game.

+/- From the demo AI is definitely lacking, hopefully this will be improved with the final version and difficulty increase. But as a previous poster mentioned, EA is not known to increase difficulty with better logic, only unfair advantage.

Overall, I went from EA UFC being my most hyped next gen game to disappointment. I understand it is just the demo, but from what I've encountered there is not enough of a change that can be made in the full version to redeem. I was just hoping for more from in-game functionality, such as more aspects and fundamentals of MMA as these were the type of features that were billed as coming with the next gen consoles.

I'm normally not an online player, but playing against a buddy of mine in UFC 3 was an absolute blast. Two of my favorite things were sways and feints. Sometimes we would get in some unbelievable slug-fest (ala Hendricks/Lawler) where we would just stand toe-to-toe and sway out of the way of shot after shot. Coming forward and landing a big uppercut after swaying backwards was a thing of beauty. With feints I loved feinting a takedown, then stepping through with a huge overhand right (Hendo-style). Adding those elements would really help with depth of gameplay. Playing the demo for the first time last night and not having those tools at my disposal really took the wind out of my sails.

One thing that was nice though was making the A.I. look silly by stepping out of the way of a flurry by flicking LS, then landing a combo before they knew what hit them. I must say, it was very Dillashaw-esque.

Jones is rated higher, so I guess it would be easier to win with him.

That's exactly why every sports game needs Arcade and Sim settings like NBA 2K has had for years. Obviously the suits think that "Rock em Sock em Robots" is what sells... and honestly they're correct for the most part. Little Billy Casual fan doesn't want to feel out their opponent for 3-4 minutes like some of the fighters do in real life. If they could just find a happy medium between the two, then I would be content. Like most of guys here, I'm hoping that the A.I. is less aggressive on higher difficulty levels, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

I think this game is going to have a lot of potential for online "sim" guys. Guys who play the right way and don't just run in with Haymaker after Haymaker. Guys who don't spam take downs or whatever else. Unfortunately, I'm getting away from gaming online, so I'm really banking on the CPU A.I. being smarter on higher difficulties.

I'm also concerned about telling the difference between opponents. Obviously, Bones and Gus have some what similar styles and honestly I can't tell too much of a difference fighting with or against them. I'm hoping that there's a bigger disparity between fighters who aren't so much alike.

I've got 15+ fights under my belt, finally got the controls down.
I really disliked the submission HUD at first but now that I know what to do I get great satisfaction out of submitting people.

Has anyone been able to throw elbows with jones out of side control? I've done it once or twice but don't know what button combination it actually is.

Speaking of ground game I hate how fast they stand you up. Especially when I'm in a dominate position (side control) and I'm doing some damage.

They throw like 18 different moves and combinations at you in the tutorial. But if you want to refer to them in the actual fight, you get redirected to "visit EA's UFC site to view the controls."

Seems legit.

I definitely see some flaws, but if you get on your horse, and use some sidesteps, and counters, the CPU does calm down a bit off the over aggression. They are still aggressive, but not full berserker mode as if you stand in the pocket and trade. I don't hate it. I wish the aggression was toned down, and like allbethere said, the way the move set is set up doesn't really make sense, and makes it difficult to pull off more basic combo's and makes it easier to use the flashiness. I am still going to get the game, and As I learn the controls and adjust, I am sure it will get better, But the flashiness is gonna be there everyfight, more frequently than most. I can deal with that, as long as the stamina stays as is, or gets even more strict. I actually think the stamina is done pretty well. If you throw too much, you definitely gas out. And if you gas out, what you throw isn't very effective, and slower.

I am torn because there are a lot of things I like, and a few things that irk me. But the things that irk me, irk me pretty bad, But what I like I like a lot. I want to play against another person to see how well fights can go. Tough to have friends to come over and play locally now though.

Some people don't like it dude, it is ok for them to voice their displeasure, I don't know why that gets to you so much. I disagree with some of what he said, but this game is far from perfect. I am still picking it up on the 17th.

It will put the download in queue, but your PS4 must be in standby mode(yellow light on top) for the download to actually start.

Will be interesting to see if it controls better on the PS4. I have both so that will be the determining factor on which one to get.

I really wish that this game would've allowed us to adjust the difficulty. Having that option would've answered a lot of questions for me. So far I like the game, but as everyone has already said, the CPU is ultra aggressive. I typically throw less strikes than my opponents do in fights, so that's nothing new. It's just that their pace is kind of concerning if that's the norm. We don't know if that's true for every fighter in the game though, so I'm not stressing it too much at this point.

The controls are taking a bit of getting used to, but after about 5 or 6 fights it's starting to click a little bit. I prefer striking with the buttons in an MMA games and using the analog stick in Fight Night, so I'm all good here. There's definitely quite a bit to digest though, but the tutorial does a good job of explaining things, and I'm sure it'll be second nature soon enough.

I'll probably be playing this more offline than online, but I think online heads will have a good time with this game. There was a guy online streaming fights of him going against one of his friends, and the action flowed very nicely. I'm sure that this is gonna be a blast with the right people. Hopefully EA's servers are worth a **** for this one.
