Highly Realistic Golf Simulation Game - The Golf Club - Tees off Today on Steam Early Access

HB Studios Simulation, Complete with Course Creator and Social Features, Now Available on Steam Early Access for PC

Canadian video game developer, HB Studios, today announced its next generation golf simulation, The Golf Club, is now available on Steam Early Access for PC. The Golf Club features pre-designed courses as well as a Course Creator that allows players to build brand new courses and share them online within seconds. The Golf Club Early Access is available for $29.99, discounted from $34.99 for 7 days. Scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One soon, The Golf Club will redefine the genre across both console and PC platforms. For more information, including a host of instructional videos, please visit the official website here.

“With a heritage deeply rooted in building some of the most fun, intuitive and critically successful sport franchises on the EA Sports label, HB Studios are now excited to roll out the first phase of The Golf Club,” said Jeremy Wellard, President of HB Studios. “With integrated social features, a massive online multiplayer mode and a Course Creator that will provide players with endless challenges, avid golfers and gamers can now access The Golf Club on Steam Early Access.”

The Golf Club is designed for 1 - 4 players locally, (from single player to 4-player sofa play), or in an asynchronous online multiplayer mode that allows players to compete against “live balls” and “ghost balls” from other players. Early Access of The Golf Club comes complete with three modes: stroke play, match play and 4-ball, and no loading times between holes.

The Course Creator allows players to build an unlimited number of golf courses which can then be shared and played with friends online. New courses can be generated in a matter of seconds by selecting a theme (Rural, Alpine or Autumn), terrain features, number of holes and difficulty. Players can then enjoy a full suite of editing tools from changing the time of day to placing hazards and objects to create the ultimate golf challenge. Players can also discover new courses built by friends and the community by filtering through rank and difficulty, as well as interact with new The Golf Club members through the Message Center.

Additional social features enable players to challenge friends and attempt to beat high scores and best their own highest recorded rounds. Add to this a myriad of statistic tracking tools, notifications, challenges and much more, and you have a golf club truly worth joining. The Golf Club was developed with the Unity games development platform.

I sort of understand the reasons for that compromise, but still...if the Links game on the original XBox could get it right on putting, and that game came out forever ago, it seems bizarre to me that 10 years later we still can't get this figured out...
I just want the putting %'s to be consistent. Right now medium speed greens, with an inch or two uphill can get you varying results. at 25% one putt it will go 15 ft and 25% on another put it will go 35 ft.

Wow, they changed something with the swing. I just started playing (haven't for about a week or more) and I can't hit very well anymore.

They also changed the shot modification.

Not in the list above is turn based multiplayer, and it seems to work very well.

I know this is completely unrelated to The Golf Club, but how awesome would it be if some company made a generic football game, basically allowing us to create leagues up to 120 teams (hello CFB replacement), custom roster, uniform, stadium editor, all on PC. One day I hope for this.

Back to TGC...

Anyone play with the new swing mechanics yet?

# 308 DiscountCleric @ 05/21/14 09:48 AM
It's nearly impossible to hit 100% now for me. A bit of an overshoot on the swing difficulty calculation.

Feels like it's tied to FPS, which makes it really hard to deal with on the player side. My shots over water tend to not make it as a result. The feel is a 100% swing, the expectation is a 95-97% because that's what I've tended to get out of my "100%"s, and the reality is 88% and a splash.

Then I go up a club and hit 97% and knock the ball through the clubhouse wall behind the green.

I don't mind the new swing mechanics...makes it harder for perfect shots, which I'm okay with. What I don't like is how hard it is to read distances. A 100% level shot is easy, but any loft, etc. is tough. Figure out what percentage of power to use is very tough.

I'm sure HB Studios will fine tune it more to help us out.

Any chance of a mouse click mechanic being added? I know it is geared towards the controller but would love to be able to play a few rounds on my laptop in between work being done.

I know the console wannabes are trying to get a Golf Club Tour together and it got me wondering if we were still planning on one. I know the tour mode is live now and I can't remember who (I think it was TheBleedingRed), but someone was working on a website for it.

Are we still going to do this? Or has interest died out?

Have you tried the HB support forum? I don't know how good they are at getting results, but they are good about responding. Check the link below:

Really enjoying the latest release. It's quite a challenge when playing some of the hardest courses and actually thinking about how to play your next shot is a joy in a golf game.

Are there any good places to find custom courses for this game yet? I'm considering picking it up but probably won't until I can play Augusta, Pebble Beach, etc.

# 318 rolltide1017 @ 06/15/14 10:49 PM
I'm pretty sure you need the game to search for courses. It's not like the old Links days where you had fans sites for sharing course.

Who's still playing this frequently and releasing courses? I know I played a couple of courses from OSer's, namely Falcon Play and Vancouver National, and enjoyed them. Always looking for more courses and more people to add on Steam.

Feel free to add me and try out some of my courses. Name is theclv24. I just released my 3rd course, Coyote Run Resort CDC (Desert Theme). My other two are Boulder Pointe Final Edition (Alpine) and McArthur Village 2nd Edition (Rural).

I've sort of cooled a bit on it lately, partly due to extended an extended wor schedule and partly due to the fact that I've gotten tired of playing the game in heavily compromised graphics state (Low Detail). It looks pretty barren when compared to its appearance when I go to high detail at 1920 x 1080. I've only played a couple of rounds a week over the last few weeks, and that was mostly to check out new courses.

I envy those of you who can play the game in high detail, 1080p, at >30 FPS because that’s the way this game deserves to look and 30 FPS is the absolute minimum frame rate needed to properly manage the swing interface. I’ll keep checking the early access updates every week, and doing a spot check on new courses until the Xbox One version comes out. I think it will then become a game I want to play on a daily basis.
