Highly Realistic Golf Simulation Game - The Golf Club - Tees off Today on Steam Early Access

HB Studios Simulation, Complete with Course Creator and Social Features, Now Available on Steam Early Access for PC

Canadian video game developer, HB Studios, today announced its next generation golf simulation, The Golf Club, is now available on Steam Early Access for PC. The Golf Club features pre-designed courses as well as a Course Creator that allows players to build brand new courses and share them online within seconds. The Golf Club Early Access is available for $29.99, discounted from $34.99 for 7 days. Scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One soon, The Golf Club will redefine the genre across both console and PC platforms. For more information, including a host of instructional videos, please visit the official website here.

“With a heritage deeply rooted in building some of the most fun, intuitive and critically successful sport franchises on the EA Sports label, HB Studios are now excited to roll out the first phase of The Golf Club,” said Jeremy Wellard, President of HB Studios. “With integrated social features, a massive online multiplayer mode and a Course Creator that will provide players with endless challenges, avid golfers and gamers can now access The Golf Club on Steam Early Access.”

The Golf Club is designed for 1 - 4 players locally, (from single player to 4-player sofa play), or in an asynchronous online multiplayer mode that allows players to compete against “live balls” and “ghost balls” from other players. Early Access of The Golf Club comes complete with three modes: stroke play, match play and 4-ball, and no loading times between holes.

The Course Creator allows players to build an unlimited number of golf courses which can then be shared and played with friends online. New courses can be generated in a matter of seconds by selecting a theme (Rural, Alpine or Autumn), terrain features, number of holes and difficulty. Players can then enjoy a full suite of editing tools from changing the time of day to placing hazards and objects to create the ultimate golf challenge. Players can also discover new courses built by friends and the community by filtering through rank and difficulty, as well as interact with new The Golf Club members through the Message Center.

Additional social features enable players to challenge friends and attempt to beat high scores and best their own highest recorded rounds. Add to this a myriad of statistic tracking tools, notifications, challenges and much more, and you have a golf club truly worth joining. The Golf Club was developed with the Unity games development platform.

Twitch doesn't do policies, they only "enforce" (which really is only for big games with NDAs.)

Can stream to your hearts content.

I just tried to play The Golf Curse. Great for a laugh, just don't land it on the cement flooring on that building on the 9th fairway or else the ball just gets stuck rapid-bouncing up and down and you can't finish.

This is my first trip into the creator so it isn't quite the masterpiece. It does have that public course feel with fairways running side by side most of the way. The greens are tough, almost too tough but I'll get more proficient as I go with course creating.

Give it a try, give some feedback if you wish. if not, that's ok too
I'll get it just because I live in Columbus, OH heh heh...have to buy the game first though....maybe will buy it now since the console version is delayed until summer...

I'm in Columbus myself. I didn't work too hard on naming the course lol.

Ok, thanks for the info - good to know when to expect it at least. I thought it was still a Spring release.

My beefs with the game at this stage are simple: driving is too easy and putting is too hard. Maybe I'm dense, but I just can't seem to get into any sort of putting rhythm. I miss more 3 foot putts than I care to admit.

Loving the game though, and I'm sure it's only going to get better.

Definite concerns for me. Are any updates planned to correct the problems?

I don't find putting to hard, I think it is about perfect right now. BUT I do find driving to easy to place the ball where you want it.

Putting seems great to me. Once you figure out how to judge distance control it's not too difficult at all. Make sure you adjust the distance/aiming marker before each putt depending on whether the putt is uphill or downhill.

Driving is too easy and pitching is waaaaay too easy. I wish we had to pitch the ball the same way we putt. Judge length of backswing and rhythm to control distance.

If they took away dial-a-distance for pitches and iron shots, plus mixed in a few more power options than 100% each full swing, the game would start reaching some really rarefied air.

The course designer is awesome and only going to get better.

Ok, I like the game, but please give up different putter length options. 105 feet for every putt is ridiculous. Give us a 60ft putter and 105 foot

edit: After playing more, the putting really needs an overhaul, the % really doesn't mean much. Especially when it's for a 145 ft or 105 ft putter. If I make a 28% swing on a 105ft putter it should roughly go 28 feet, pending on up slope or down slope. I shouldn't have to use up to more than 60% on either of the putters. It is so inconsistent, if they fix it, this game can be astounding game play wise.

How much steam will this game lose when EA showcases their golf game at E3?

Two completely different types of games, IMO. This game has a course creator/customization potential that I don't think any EA sports offering could have. EA's golf game will, however, likely feature PGA and LPGA licenses, and tons of OEM equipment.

Two different types of offerings that probably both have room in the market depending on what you're looking for in a Golf Game. I personally was really upset at the way EA treated the last TW game, leaving it to be a decent game with a few glaring issues that were never resolved/patched. I like the potential TGC has, and the fact that the developers are a smaller crew, who listen to the community gives me hope.

It might lose a little but, EA's game will not be out until next March/April so TGC still has plenty of time to find an audience. It would also help if they would release the console version before E3. I could watch EA's announcement and then go and actually play TGC on my PS4.

Did anyone see GiantBomb video about TGC they posted on Friday, any thoughts?

Nothing new is learned and the 2 guys playing the game are the types of players I do not want HBS to listen to. Most of the things they complain about are ways they think the HBS should make the game easier.

Giant Bomb is blocked from my work PC, so I can't see the video. Are they playing the PC version?

I personally don't have much interest in EA's game. It will be just like the old tiger series and will get stale. I can't wait for tours to finally be unlocked in TGC and there are always endless amounts of course to play. If they tune the putting I think this game is potentially the best golf game ever.

So there are different "length" putters in this game, like in the old Tiger Woods series on Playstation? Please tell me that isn't the case...

well I think the length of the putter is determined by the biggest green on the course. You cannot change what length you have. Problem is, is that the putting is very inconsistent. It's really only the issue in the game.

Yes, they were playing the early access version from Steam.

I see. I guess that's a little better, but still sort of irritating (in theory...haven't played the game myself). The whole "different length putters" thing on the old Tiger Woods series was a straight-away deal-breaker for me.

I sort of understand the reasons for that compromise, but still...if the Links game on the original XBox could get it right on putting, and that game came out forever ago, it seems bizarre to me that 10 years later we still can't get this figured out...

Anyone using a Ds4 controller for this? Just grabbed the game last night and can't see me sticking with the mouse if the option is there to use a controller. I just am not sure of the process of getting started, seems kind of daunting.

Also what's the best way to find tne courses you guys have created? It'd be nice if there was a sticky with the course names or links if that's possible.

I prefer the three click method, hate using the right stick.
