MLB 14 The Show News Post

Hey everyone, I’m Kirby St. John, a designer with the MLB The Show development team. My main focus year-to-year is improving and evolving one of our most popular modes, Road to The Show. The mode made some big strides last year, especially in terms of gameplay and presentation, but for MLB 14, we really wanted to focus on the logic and systems that govern the mode in an effort to allow for more variety and less restrictions. We also wanted to provide some new experiences never seen before in RTTS. The video touched on a lot of topics, but in this blog I will expand on what was introduced there and discuss some of the exciting things that were only briefly mentioned.

Yes, I believe so... even tho I'm not sure I understand your question completely.

It factors in performance/stats in comparison with teammates, yes.

Sorry if not clear. Is it easier to get called up to AAA and then to MLB then it was in past years? There were times I was killing AAA pitching and the person in MLB was hitting like crap. Yet I never got called up until sept

Base it off the real life like MLB network. I want to here player voices like in NBA 2k14. & I can still see that the fielding animations are horrible still they look like the guy is on some drug. I'm sorry but MVP baseball had better fielding animations & that was in 2005! In MLB they always were stiff. I'm hoping this is just the ps3 version & vita. Because NBA did do this also I was hating & then the ps4 stuff came out. So I'll give it time. But you guys need to be quicker with info I understand about the ps4 but the ps3 doesn't really have anything either? Like what? Come on. & with NBA 2k In mind make a good my team like with historic packs & team packs & etc. No one wants fake players. If you copied the nba 2k my team you would have so much fans. Baseball & MLB the show will always be life both in real life & my video game. Form ruin it. Show improvements & how about this little detail you know how a pitcher or batter steps out how about you make the screen shake making you want to step out making it more realistic. & also show fights & brawls. & get the new replay system in there please everything I just said.......
dude, try decaf... and the enter button to start a new paragraph...

Thats what it sounded like to me as well. But I'm sure if you go from AA to the majors it'd be like an emergency situation. Probably only a few games to show what you've got before being sent back down, maybe to AAA? I'm really excited to play RTTS and i got burnt out rather quickly last year.

One thing I'm looking forward to is how hitting the pitcher with comebackers is. Last year they would get absolutely pelted and be completely fine.

You do realize we ask for new things to put into the game every year right? Every year the developers listen and make changes and additions. SCEA does this extremely well. If it can't happen, they let us know and reasons why.

Before March 17th, 2014, there were a lot of the suggestions I described in my last post. Also, SCEA developers were available before that date too to listen to us... Trust me on this one...

I'm a RTTS fan, but i hated it in '13 and got bored in five minutes. It was stale, frustrating, a lot of things didn't make sense.... and the lame first person broadcast, yikes. This looks better.

I am beyond excited for rtts this year! I'll play a couple quick games to get back into the swing of things since I haven't been able to play the show since November, then I'll dive right in!

For me personally it feels like the guys at The Show have been sitting next to me on my couch. From this new info its like they are saying ok Bullit doesn't like this, but he really wants this is in so lets make it happen. Oh wait we forget he wants this in, so lets squeeze this in to.

I am completely content and will be getting all 3 versions of this wonderful game. Thank You

Kudos for the team making sure they got the MLB draft rules correct. If you decide not to sign after high school, you must attend college for 3 or 4 years. However, you may re-enter the draft while in JuCo anytime (meaning you don't have to wait 3 years).

Just want to thank you for putting back play-by-play in rtts! As a visually impaired player, it helps me greatly! You guys do an amazing job making this game accessible. The one aspect of the game I can't do is fielding, because I can only see a bit out of my left eye, but with auto fielding turned on, I'm just as good as a fully sighted person. What sets your game apart is the welth of options. For example, I can't go get the ball, but I can throw it and do everything else, your game gives me that option. Keep up the good work!

I don't recall seeing anything about it but does anybody know if they fixed the trade logic in RTTS? I imagine they did and hope they did because it was horrible last year or atleast is was for me. I couldn't stand the ridiculous trades that made me no longer want to play RTTS after one season.

Great. Just great...

Your post sums up what I was thinking after reading the RTTS Dev blog.

A lot of great improvements, but I think the way attribute points is handled may be the best change in the whole RTTS experience. It appears that initial ratings will be higher and we won't come in as a 55-rated player with A-potential. Instead, we can actually have some skill entering the minors, like in real life. Also, increasing the cost of attribute points as the ratings increase is going to be amazing and will make the mode more of a grind. It was too easy to turn into an arcade freak within two years and I actually had to just sit on points because I didn't want to hit 80 HR every year. I love the strategy this adds, especially with the cost to simply maintain the attributes as well. Fantastic steps to make this more of a true RPG within a sports game.

Plus, I love how getting rid of the goals means I don't have to put points to something I don't want to do. Like if I want to just put my points towards my power and a couple others, I can do that and it won't affect me getting called up because I didn't do the goals. Come on May 6...

I agree I love the removal of the goal system and love that you can now be called up at anytime and not have to wait for advancement period.
