The Golf Club News Post

OK - I have just been informed that there will be an email sent over in the next few hours that will provide access to the Golf Club closed beta today. Myself and any others who were lucky enough to gain access will provide what information we can in this thread. Asking questions is not a problem, but understand we may not be able to answer them all. I will post in here as soon as I have the game installed and have spent spent some time with it.

We just ask that you be patient - Thanks!

Can you turn off the ball trail? Just curious.

You may be able to in the future, but right now the settings we have access to are very limited.

Here is the video I promised of the new build of the Golf Club beta -

Thanks, man. I will say the sounds from this game are absolutely incredible. Really sounds like a purely compressed strike on the irons. The ball trail, for me, is not a game-breaker (i'm not that snobbish), however I just would rather prefer it not be there - that's how it is IRL. In addition, ball trails (whether in MVP baseball, TW or even Adidas Superstar Soccer!) are just unrealistic and I lose that immersion.

With that said, when this gets to the PC - I know someone will be able to come up with some kind of mod to remove it if that is the final build.

Looking good Bob. The guys voice doesn't bother me really, I will be turning it down though. I'd rather hear the sounds of the course.

Hole #2 on that video is just sweet, I do not think I have seen the elevation like that in many golf games and it just seemed nice.

On my local course, there is a hole that has a huge valley and is a pain in the you know what, cannot wait to try and recreate that.

On a side note, seems you have some trouble judging distances with the elevation factoring in all around the course, seemed tough, very nice to see.

I will mirror what onlooker said in the fact the the newest build really takes this game forward. Still some tweaks to be made and kinks to be ironed out - but the game feels much more polished now with this second build -

Loved the Par 3 where you couldn't see the flag off the box. Not knowing where that ball will land due to elevation and or being below/above the hole is nice.

Finally looks like the difficulty will be the course and not the settings which a welcome change.

I know you've already touched on this, but driving is still too accurate. They need to tone down the width of the red swing meter on the bottom right. Looks way to wide at the moment.

It has been tweaked in the new build Jerz, but IMO it needs to be tweaked some more. I'm not hoping for something that is stupid hard, just a consistent challenge - after all the game is suppose to replicate the idea of going out on the weekend with a couple of friends to hit the links, not the PGA Tour.

Overall this looks like a must buy for golf fans.
They are slightly delayed because of the recording. In game they match the swing as expected, and never sound out of synch.

Played the toughest course and round to date. Someone created Bay Hill, and kicked the living hell out of me. I recorded the full 18 hole disaster and will gladly have it available in the morning for all to view. Obviously I didn't play my best round(it was 1:15am when I played)but still this course crushed whatever confidence I had going into it.

How accurate was the Bay Hill recreation? I can't imagine it's too impressive haha.

Quick question, can you manually draw a fairway to make it any shape you want in course creator?

Love the sounds of this Bob. Can't wait to see the vid.

It was actually pretty well down. I have yet to find a way to manually create a shape on the course, It may be available to do, but has escaped me up to this point.

You will cringe at 50% of my shots - I swear it's true. I also turned off the commentary for you, so all you will hear is the natural course ambiance.

I cant imagine not being able to manually change fairway shape. I couldn't create a real course without it

You can change fairway shape - but not in the way you're hoping for. If you think you're going to bust out a pencil like option and draw manual shapes on the course, you are going to be disappointed.

FYI - here's a fly-over of Bay Hill. Not bad really.

OTOH, if you dropped it into a sub-tropical theme, with all of the sub-tropic trees and vegetation, and this one would be recognizable to all.

I don't care what you 'call' this course, it's probably the best course I've seen thus far in The Golf Club. It'll definitely be on my Favorites list and get repeated play. It'll bring you to your knees, but mostly for the right reasons. I hope that others will judge this course for what it actually is, not how much it looks like Bay Hill. It doesn't have a chance at the latter with this mountainous, rural theme in which it's set. Oh, I was 8 over par through 12 holes with two snowmen on my card... one of them was a four-putt green.

I finished +18 and had nightmares about playing my round. It's a beautiful course, and while I struggled mightily on it, it wasn't because of cheap tactics. The course is simply just a soul crusher -

Yeah, the themes are somewhat limiting right now. And, as Javo said, the beta prevents some of the finer tuning required to really make these real-life courses.

I can't stand the wait. Truly haven't been this amped for a game in awhile.
