The Golf Club News Post

OK - I have just been informed that there will be an email sent over in the next few hours that will provide access to the Golf Club closed beta today. Myself and any others who were lucky enough to gain access will provide what information we can in this thread. Asking questions is not a problem, but understand we may not be able to answer them all. I will post in here as soon as I have the game installed and have spent spent some time with it.

We just ask that you be patient - Thanks!

Prison Architect is the perfect example of how great early access can be and I thinks it's a GREAT move for not only the company but gamers.
Ahhhh. Okay Thanks guys!! Not gunna get on PC but was just wondering.

Its supposed to be golf season already, but winter hasn't been very kind to us up here has it? I'm so ready for my first full year with my new Driver. And looking at possibly getting a new set of fairway woods and a putter.
Also not taking summer classes so I'm gunna live at the golf course

So I have worked on the basic layout, hole length, and design. Still need to put some work in on elevation, trees, buildings, - pretty much everything, but its a start.

Hole#1(Tea Olive)
Dammit Bob, fix the mow lines!!!!

LOL, j/k of course....looks great so far, especially since you don't have the proper trees or ground cover to work with for authenticity. But getting the lay of the holes right, looks good. How do you know to fix the elevations? Are they listed somewhere for you to use?

Hopefully they add the ability to create own fairway shape, otherwise, some courses will not be as accurate as they could be. Excited to see them keep updating the game and adding features.

True, my first round last year was in March, though I didnt play again until May. Which driver? Is there a particular brand youre looking at for your woods? I just bought some Callaway x-hot fairway woods last year and I love them to death.

Thanks Dan. I have already changed it quite a bit since that photo was taken. As far as elevation goes, I have no chart. So I am just going off memory from the 7 Masters tournaments I have been to - and the practice round I got to walk with Tom Watson.

They kind of have a way to do it now, but it could be much much simpler.

Awesome man, I am so excited for this game. I bought Links 2003 last night for $6.99 and have been playing it to fill the wait time for this. Links truly had the difficulty down pat. I am struggling so bad in that game.

Feel free to share your updates to Tea Olive! And the rest of the holes if you're so inclined

Hole#1(Tea Olive)

32, SinisterAlex, Perfect Zero and 6 others like this.

Go Blue - Glad to see one of the Beta's making a run at Augusta National. I hope your work is carried over to the release build! Looks like a good start.
You lucky bastard - you've been to Augusta National how many times?
I bet it is breath taking.

Brother - I was just messing with Lt. Dan about going 7 times because he asked about getting exact elevations, hence the whistling emoticon- sorry about that.

I do have a good start, but running into an issue where it is hard to recreate the proper elevations and declines because, if people are not aware, there is a permanent base of water underneath the creation grid. So I am running into the issue of uncovering water as I try to lower certain aspects of certain holes.

oh, yes that could be a problem since this course has so many elevation changes.

Still look forward to what progress you make - please post more screenies!

OK - so here is hole 1(Tea Olive) and 2(Pink Dogwood) still working on both. Hole 2 I grabbed an overhead shot of the initial shot that floats downwards out into the dogleg left, downhill. I still have to create the double guarded green with sandtraps in front.

Much appreciated! - it's taking some time to do it, as I am still learning the true in and outs of the creator. I am hoping to have it done by middle to end of next week, and will upload a full video of me playing it.

I guess you could do it this way and make it work... Create a new course per set.

Tri Cities - Lakes & Pines
Tri Cities - Pines & Lakes
Tri Cities - Lakes & Woods
Tri Cities - Woods & Lakes
Tri Cities - Pines & Woods
Tri Cities - Woods & Pines

I usually do not play just one side first so i would like to have option to play any side first and last. With unlimited slots for courses, this would not be an issue and with the naming, it could be organized easily.

I am assuming there will be or is a clone option or duplicate. After creating say lakes and pines, duplicate course, and re-number the holes backwards so it creates pines and lakes, if possible, if not they could add the option to allow this. After that, duplicate and leave the lakes holes but erase the pines holes and replace with woods holes.

Seems like a ton of work, but it would be sweet to have the 27 hole courses and this is a (long) work around I believe. If you cannot clone/duplicate, it would be even more work to make it completely similar.

Just a thought for those that may want to try this (I know I will)
So, you live near Blountville? I have played Tri-Cities numerous times.

Can you make any of the brushes big enough to cover the entire course, and then raise it all at one time? If so, then maybe you could use Google Earth to find the highest point of the property (presumably near the clubhouse) and then raise the entire course to either the highest point or to some point between highest and lowest, making it easier to mold the course that way.

Although even as I type this and think about it, it would suck to do 10 holes and then realize you are too high and have to lower the land way too far at Amen Corner to get any water. So maybe you start with the water holes first and work your way around from there?

I'm just thinking out loud here. In any case, it might be a good idea to use Google Earth and note the elevation of each tee and green on the course. If you can't get replicate those exact elevations, then you might be able to scale the elevations down to a point where Amen Corner starts at zero and all of the elevations are relative to that point.

Does any of this make any sense?

It actually makes a lot of sense. I was already thinking about ****-canning the whole thing and starting over again with the approach you mentioned.

I just took a quick look on Google Earth, and it looks like no matter what you will have to get creative. Raes Creek at 11 and 12 is the lowest point on the course, but the ponds on 15 and 16, which I assume are man made, are roughly 40 feet higher. Also, on 13, Raes Creek up around the green is probably 10-15 feet higher then it is where it starts back at the beginning of the fairway. I don't know how you could have a creek with water near the green when you have a flat water table to work with... unless you made a canyon in front of the green instead of a creek.

I still think it's worth a shot, just have to get a little creative with it.

Man the course look great, but something about the golfer model looks off. Almost like the course grass and sky is next gen graphics while the golfer model looks like something from the PS3.
