MLB 14 The Show News Post

PlayStation.Blog has posted their MLB 14 The Show developer blog which details quick counts and player lock features, which help complete games faster.

Other details not mentioned in the video are listed below.
  • Quick Counts and Player Lock are game options; they aren’t mandatory.
  • Quick Counts and Player Lock are available in all game modes except Road To The Show.
  • Player lock will allow you to play a full game in as little as 10 minutes.
  • With Quick Counts on, you will cut your game completion times in half if used in conjunction with the Fast Play presentation setting. Games can now be completed in as little as 30 minutes.
  • Realistic stats in Quick Counts have not been compromised. However, you may see a slight increase in strike outs and walks.
  • To customize your Player Lock experience, visit the Options page and access the RTTS Options.
  • Player Lock fielding uses fielder-perspective controls, so all bases are mapped opposite of non-Player Lock games (i.e. Square = First, X = Second, Circle = Third, Triangle = Home)
What are your thoughts on quick counts and player lock?

I also noticed on the Score Bug it gave the weather and wind conditions before the pitcher made the pitch, very nice.

No real interest with quick counts, but good to see dev blogs rolling out. Something to look forward to in the coming weeks now.

Is analog throwing allowed in player lock fielding? if that's the case are base direction reversed too?

But at least in the PS3 version they still do not have the Home Run stat overlay box popup while the batter who just hit the Home Run is rounding the bases. Instead you see the Home Run overlay box appear when the next batter is at the plate. I would like it to be more like what you see on a real baseball TV broadcast where the Home Run stat overlay box pops up while the camera is on the batter rounding the bases. I am hoping this was changed for the PS4 version but I am not counting on it. I have been requesting this small change for a few years now and I am kind of surprised it's taking so long for Sony to change it. Unless of course Sony likes the way it currently is for some reason and has no plans to ever change it which would be very disappointing.

This is how it should be in MLB The Show when a player hits a Home Run. Or at least something similar to this

Also I love how the camera follows McCann right into the dugout getting high fives from all his team mates. This presentation should also be in MLB The Show!

Great info.

My only complaint is that the guys at SCEA are so good at their job, they already have Rangers Ballpark renamed to "Globe Life Park."

GOSH DANGIT GUYS.

not sure if the devs look at these boards but i have one suggestion for quick counts: give us two separate options for turning them on. for example if i want to enable quick counts for when im batting but not when im pitching i should be able to (without having to go into the menu after every half-inning).

either way the feature itself sounds exactly like what ive been hoping for. im one of those people who doesnt draw a lot of walks and the cpu pitch count is generally low against me so i am looking forward to it. that being said when im on the mound its generally pretty true to life in terms of my pitch counts and things like that. so i would love the option to only have it enabled for my at-bats.

Agreed. But...

For the sake of a quicker game; meaning accommodating all the 'X-button to-skip-cutscene mashers,' not being able to see the info exactly where it's currently shown would cause a riot!

I'm fine with where it's currently placed for that reason alone.

You have to consider Fast Play users too that want to see how far their bombs went.

You cant do that either. Once its set, its set for the entire game.

Well that's why you have 2 modes now "Fast Play " And "Presentation" The "Presentation" mode should have it the way I am suggesting

Also I am in no way looking to speed up my games. MLB The Show is so great and fun to play so why in the world would I want to get the game over with as fast as I can? I mean sure there maybe times where I want to get in a quick game and in these cases "Fast Play" mode will be wonderful. But most of the time when I set out to play MLB The Show I make sure I have plenty of time to finish the game. It's no fun when you have to rush though your game.

There will be no "Fast Play" for me!!!

So in Franchise mode If I choose player lock I won't be able to see my teammates at bats from the dugout like in RTTS but it would just be simmed? If that is true that is very dissapointing.

I'm loving the pitch count on the scorebug!!

One small issue I see though it looks like there is not enough room to display 100+ pitches currently. There should be a space between Pitches and the numbers. It should look like this (PITCHES 111) not (PITCHES111) again small thing but maybe it's not to late to fix so I figured I would report it here.

I remember a lot of us were hoping for this last year but Sony did not have enough time to get it in on time.

Yes but I believe you can lock on to any amount of players you want.
So if you want 3-5, I believe you can.

Maybe a Dev can clarify.

As a broadcast presentation, there should be more stats presented as the play happens. Its now the norm in brodcasts to show the HR total of the player as they round the bases, it doesn't have to be on the scorebug, but as part of a broadcast it should be there. There are a ton of little changes they can make to the broadcast presentation to make it feel authentic. The way cameras follow the action, a slight delay after the ball is hit (similar to PYS), HR totals and stats presented as they happen, etc. Hopefully they eventually do get to a point where it feels like an actual TV broadcast. It gets closer every year.

You have a luxury that many of us don't have. While I'll probably play some full games, the vast majority of mine will be quick counts. I typically play 1 game from every other series or else I wouldn't be able to get through a full season. This will allow me to play more games per season or play the same number of games and get through the season faster. I'm lucky if I have an hour to play most week nights.

Thanks for responding. I would think they would at least give us the option to see how many pitches of an at bat we can watch like it is in RTTS.

I'm hoping a Dev can clarify this as well.

Great video, just a little disappointed that no PS4 gameplay or screenshot was shown.

While that was on the table when we were there in November(up to three players).....it looks as though they have decided on locking one player at a time.

Also.....I thought they had the option to view the teammates AB's and on field plays or to have the plays simmed.....I hope that's in there as well.

I hope you're right about being able to watch and not just sim.
