MLB 14 The Show Could Have Different Release Dates For PS3 and PS4

While we wait on official word for the MLB 14 The Show release date, one has to wonder if the PS3 and PS4 versions will ship on the same day or not.

Looking back at MLB 07 The Show, the PS2 version shipped on February 26th, while the PS3 version didn't ship until May 15th.

I sent a note to Russell, but I'm not sure if he is allowed to elaborate on it. But he did have this to say yesterday.

Either way, it's fun to speculate, since we haven't seen anything new recently. Last year, we received the fact sheet on January 14th. We also saw some gameplay from CES last year at around this time, but it wasn't on display this year. Just taking a peek at our MLB 13 The Show page, we saw a few Developer Journals with hands-on impressions at the end of January.

Let's hope we see or hear something soon.

When the 07 version came out on ps3, it was bad. I hope the PS4 version isn't awful.

There is no point in rushing the PS4 MLB 14 product out the door before it is ready. You know the saying, "You only have one chance at making a good first impression". But one would hope that the PS3 version shouldn't be delayed unless of course SCEA only has a skeleton crew working on it. With that in mind I believe I have already made up my mind. The original plan was to buy the PS4 console not too long before MLB 14 was released. But it appears that I will defer this plan for a year and either pick up MLB 14 for the PS3 if it is released in it's normal time frame or better yet, save some cash and continue using MLB 13 for another year.

I totally understand if SCEA needs to stay silent on the PS4 release. But some news on the PS3 release would be nice if they don't want to lose a customer for this year's game. Of course this is best ball out there by a country mile so they will not be losing me as a permanent customer. They would just lose me for one year.

The only reason I care is because Sony has already delayed/pushed back a few games and the next couple of months are going to be really dry for the system.

Other than that, I want them to take what time they need to put out a quality game. My 2K game is literally unplayable due to glitches. I'd rather the game get pushed back than have it come out infested with bugs.

Not at all!

If it meant waiting until June to get 14, I'd would be more than happy to wait. I'm perfectly content with 13 as it has done almost everything to my satisfaction. Because of this I can also wait longer for any news regarding 14.

The longer it takes to come out, the longer I can keep running my franchise.

I'd much rather SCEA take their time with the game rather than rush it out the door. No one wants to play a buggy or unfinished game.

Perhaps SCEA is relying on an important software update for the PS4 before releasing the game (Sounds of the Show??)... Either way it doesn't matter much to me, as I play the game year round anyway. Call it MLB 14.5 if you want.

..To be honest, I'd much rather read a fact sheet and see some screenshots than have a release date right now.

Just my .02.

If the PS4 version is out in early April, I'm good. It will be a bummer if takes longer than that.

Either way, I'm buying it though.

I'm hoping that the lack of info means that they are working hard to avoid needing two different release dates. I know that I'm probably wrong, but I hope that they're simply afraid to say anything either way because it is too close to call.

That being said, if that is indeed the case I hope that they just push it back a few weeks to a couple months and release it when it's ready. I would much rather plop down my $60 on a finished product in April/May than on an unfinished product in March.

...Plus if the roster vault is cross-platform there's a chance that the OSFM rosters would be complete by the time the PS4 version comes out which would help to reduce the pain of waiting for them before starting up my franchise.

Im with those who think first week of March for PS3 as normal, for PS4, April, when, early/mid/late, who knows.
