NBA Live 14 News Post

Check out the latest NBA Live 14 blog, which discusses how you need to maintain a rhythm of the dribble, instead of spamming the controls. When getting into a rhythm, it becomes easier to chain from levels 1, 2 and 3.

The blog also discusses defensive controls and introduces the defensive slide feature. You will be able to attempt a dig steal, contest, and take a charge with the right stick. You will play against team specific defenses. So something that might work one night, won't work against a team that defends specific plays better on another night. You can adjust your team or specific individuals on the fly to come over the top of screens or go underneath, force players a certain direction, pressure the ball, post defense, double teams and more.

Make sure you read the entire blog here.

Honestly, I'm starting to get really excited about this game. I loved Live 10 and still play it quite a bit. If the gameplay features can live up to the hype, and if the atmosphere is as immersive as I fully expect it to be...this could be a simhead's dream, both online and offline.

I don't care how great a game looks if Jeremy Lamb is jacking up 30 shots a game for the CPU. Gameplay is king.

OG, you said something about how deep the post game is, and maybe I missed it, but will there be signature animations in the post? If I remember, developers took it out in 10, and personally I really miss seeing this. Will 14 have signature animations in the post?

I will answer that as soon as I can.

A word of advise OG, do not artificially speed up the animations. Leave them at the speed they were captured, otherwise you end up with jerky unnatural looking animations with poor transitions from one to the next.

You mean the Live 09 signature fades out of the post?

Yeah, something like that. Maybe also some hooks and others. Will it be there?

You have animation experience?

It's appreciated.

OG, I want to thank you for coming in and reaching out and answering questions.

It's been rough being a Live supporter on the webs the past few years. Good to see the new team is focusing on outreach and connecting with the community.

Are you able to answer questions of topics outside of this blog?

I'm curious, how interior contact animations/physics are going to work this year? Live 10, although incredibly enjoyable, it seemed that it was very animation based once you breached the interior. Too many contact layups/animations. Are there going to be controls to adjust a shot to avoid contact? Will there be weight based physics, so LeBron isn't completely stopped in his tracks by a smaller defender when he has all momentum entering the paint?

"It's been rough being a Live supporter on the webs the past few years." - I totally get it! I would be saying the same thing. Like I mentioned earlier, it's easy to come on here and bash EA basketball but that does zero for the community.

yes, and I agree(above question you asked). That's one of things I think you will like in this years game. You won't feel that "suction" when getting into the lane. The game is really free and you feel like you've made a play on the ball/or got that basket rather than a elongated sequence playing out. Those elongated sequence look much better but don't feel great, especially when you're 25+ games in.

Like... What are the other offensive controls? Is freestyle passing back and the ability to take over other players and initiate the pass?
Thanks man. I'll get that info out as soon as I can. Deepest control scheme Live has ever had. I know that doesn't do much for you right now but it's something you can trust me on.

I am surprised though, that nobody picked out the spacing on side S&R or that you have floater control. On defense we have NBA help principals. Did Lopez get there as quick as he should? Probably not but what's his speed rating? Whats (blank) rating? A lot of things go into that possession. If that's Tyson Chandler, does he get there? yes. NBA defenses break down when the ball goes middle and that's why teams don't want the ball to see paint. Trust me, we have 3 man rotations that happen all the time.
Fair enough.

The spacing was proper (never been an issue).

If Lopez' and Lillard's reactions are ratings-based then I'll hold you to that.

Final 2 questions and I'll leave you alone:
-Are there rocket dunks? On the Rose drive to the hoop, he gets in the lane and kind of launches into his dunk. This was a massive issue we saw in Elite clips with Carlos Boozer dunking from the FT line.

-Can we control bank shots? In Live 10 it was based on hitting the left stick. Or is it just contextual?

I totally agree. I'm also looking forward to how this translates to pressing the ball handler in iso situations out on the perimeter.

Sticking with the animations theme, one thing Live 10 did really well IMO was capture off ball activity and motion. How has this been improved upon? Will this new physics based engine effect what we see transpire upon certain plays. Will players with less momentum be more susceptible to being caught in a screen longer than someone who was quicker and more agile?

Am also curious to hear the answers to bigeasts questions as well. I hope some of these animations are more context sensitive and situational so were not seeing a dunk fest.

Hear hear. Love it when the devs engage in real discussion with the community. Usually only happens with Indie game devs in my experience.

btw i think each company's goal by the end of this generations cycle should be to have a game with real-time physics that's very fluid. combined with astonishing graphics.

OG you said that you hardly use the dribbling moves?

....one of my issues with Live 10..for all the control that was said to be had, It felt like crossovers were mandatory for getting by your man....

so would you say you can take angles/ use simple bursts of speed to get by your defender in this years game?
