NBA Live 14 News Post

Check out the latest NBA Live 14 blog, which discusses how you need to maintain a rhythm of the dribble, instead of spamming the controls. When getting into a rhythm, it becomes easier to chain from levels 1, 2 and 3.

The blog also discusses defensive controls and introduces the defensive slide feature. You will be able to attempt a dig steal, contest, and take a charge with the right stick. You will play against team specific defenses. So something that might work one night, won't work against a team that defends specific plays better on another night. You can adjust your team or specific individuals on the fly to come over the top of screens or go underneath, force players a certain direction, pressure the ball, post defense, double teams and more.

Make sure you read the entire blog here.

Pick-and-roll?

" Hating " is a overused word and there is a difference between the truth and hate

You don't seem to like any criticism against this game sorry but im sure you will hear more of it then just from this site.

That's great man. Anything I or we as a community can do to bring Live back to greatness. Live 95 and 10 were my favs and still play 10. Hopefully 14 will give me a reason to finally put 10 on the shelf.

Can you speak on rather or not we will have a demo since you gave the impression that you haven't heard it wouldn't be? Also is there going to fancy passing this year and has the alley oops been improved?

Scott, I think most understand that you don't control that. But considering your role, I think it's fair to assume you have complete knowledge of any plans. Considering the time remaining, if there will be any 5v5 info, wouldn't you know by now? So, I'll ask: will we get ANY 5v5 before the PS4 launch?

In all fairness, I think most if the hate is a product of the marketing that feels all too similar to the previous games. For me, the only thing that really bothers me is the supposed promises of "more information to come".

It's also a little unsettling that you're choosing to only engage with the posters that only say positive things. I agree you should avoid the trolls. But there are a few people here that voice concerns or dislikes in a respectful manner, but they get crickets.

In the Steve Nash video, take a look at Damian Lillard's recovery on the Pick & Roll. He sort of crab walks sideways rather than running towards Nash in a natural catchup running motion.

TBH, the entire sequence looked funky even down to Robin Lopez' collapsing into the paint.

Is that indicative of the animations that we can expect to see in '14?

The footplanting is definitely there. But the fluidity is what gives some people pause.

What are your thoughts on that?

"I think it's fair to assume you have complete knowledge of any plans." - I don't work in marketing or PR. I work on gameplay only. I wouldn't say that I have complete knowledge of plans.

Hey Scoot - I know you said you work on gameplay, but do you know if there will be a practice mode this year?

That's a great question. I don't recall how that was captured to be honest. I wouldn't say that's indicative of the animations you will see in Live 14 either. I am surprised though, that nobody picked out the spacing on side S&R or that you have floater control. On defense we have NBA help principals. Did Lopez get there as quick as he should? Probably not but what's his speed rating? Whats (blank) rating? A lot of things go into that possession. If that's Tyson Chandler, does he get there? yes. NBA defenses break down when the ball goes middle and that's why teams don't want the ball to see paint. Trust me, we have 3 man rotations that happen all the time.

One question.
Do you think you can compete with 2k14 (next-gen) this year.

I think that's for us to decide...

Anyway, the stationary dribbling animations looks awesome in my opinion. Is the dribbling + contact as smooth as this? I can't confirm this with the trailer.

I wouldn't say that's true at all. And by looking through your previous posts on this thread I commend your enthusiasm. Though when you say things like, "They did a blog on defensive SETTINGS. Most of those settings have been in Live already!" Really? can you show me a picture of Live 10's screens? When you compare them it's laughable. Have you played a 5v5 game and used them yet?

"Live said the ball was 100% tangible. That's not news. That's been done before and people whined about some of the potential side effects." - What game has had a physics based dribbling system?

"How will the Live apologist excuse this since this has been a hallmark of the series?" What kind of response is this? What does this do for the Sim basketball community? Why would a Live fan who comes on here want to read that when you haven't even played the game yet? I would love to answer any question that you have, though I'm not going to answer an uneducated rant.

We'll see what they have. I'm excited to see it myself. I don't lack confidence one bit in anything were doing, though for me to come out and say that we're going to be better than them in year one after 4 year hiatus would be completely disrespectful. I know a couple of the devs over there and I know they work really hard as well. They have made a very good game for awhile now. We're up for the challenge going forward and I think the Simulation basketball community should benefit from it.

I like the contact personally. We have different bumps depending on size and speed of the collision. I'll be awaiting your feedback.
