NBA 2K14 News Post

NBA 2K14 on next-gen looks great, plays great. Features are missing though.

To port or not to port? That is the question.

In 2006, 2K took a different approach to their first game on the next gen consoles. 2K simply upgraded the graphics and ported over all of the features in the current gen version. That was the safe approach and most people were happy with it by and large.

This time around 2K wants OS'ers to know one thing: The next gen version of NBA 2K14 is not a port. But is that a good thing?

I agree with you on this one man..while I hate it you have to think that this is great marketing strategy by 2k to maximize the profit for both versions of the game. They needed to make the next gen version totally different feature and graphical wise to separate it from current gym. Part of that was adding new features that people may or may not like while removing features that were mainstays in the current gen. Unfortunately association mode and season mode as well as custom music was taken out essentially making it exclusive to the current gen version only. The next gen is completely different graphic wise and they know a lot people want it just based on that. So in essence if you want full association mode and control you have to keep or purchase the current gen version. If you want eye candy with a limited feature set the you have to purchase the next gen version. I guarantee there will be a bunch of people who will own both versions because of this. This move will ensure that dedicated gamers will pay 120 for the game rather than the 60 for just one version. I know I was planning on trading my current gen in for a next gen version but I wan t my association, seaspn and playoff mode as well as custom music so I will hang on to it and buy the next gen as well. As next gen becomes mainstream and more people have it they will start phasing out the current gen and gradually add all the feature sets back into current gen this process will take two years as they will have to give gamers a reason to purchase current gen next year.

I can't wait.

Never been a big MyPlayer guy, but I am going to make someone with random settings, and have random choices throughout my career, and see what happens, throughout MyGM career as well.

I feel bad for the association guys, but like I said in another thread (for me) it was feeling a little stale. I hope they put something DLC together or blow out association mode next year to make it fresh.

I'm gonna apologize in advance for my ignorance but I haven't had Madden in years so how does the my gm goes? If I can basically have a season I'm good but if I can't have a season and the cpu controls everything that's bad. I don't understand why the couldn't have that and just have a one year season also if they didn't wanna invest in the association anymore.

I certainly hope it's not player locked. I never play exhibition as I find it boring so really I'll be playing no one but my created player. I like MyPlayer and everything but I don't want to play locked as him all the time.

I was really excited by the videos but after reading this I'm not getting this year's game. I don't want to play MyGM mode, it sounds corny to me. I want to manage the rosters and play the games. Convincing DeMarcus Cousins not to request a trade doesn't sound fun to me.

PC Version for meeeeeeee......

You will be able to put aspects of the mode on Auto and only deal with that if you'd like.

Basically you want to be the GM AND play games but don't want to be a REAL GM and make real GM decisions ? Lol you don't want a simulation stick with PC version bro

Its not player locked, your MyPlayer becomes the GM that's it, you still play your games (as the whole team), sim games if wanted, etc... just like Assoc mode, but just from a GM viewpoint now, which can be set to Auto and you don't have to worry about it.

Just some FYI:

I simply provided an overview of what our philosophy was.

We'll be going into MUCH more detail (you know I will take care of you guys here) on what we've done in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

The takeaway you should have right now is MyGM is Association on steroids. Multi-user had to take a backseat for a minute while we rebuilt the entire foundation of how a franchise mode works. I assure you, this is all for the greater good. Leftos and I will make sure you're all happy at the end of the day.

P.S. For those who aren't into the concept of interacting with staff, players, etc., a Season mode (with variable season lengths) IS available so you can just focus on playing games and moving players around where you see fit.

Wait, the season mode goes multiple seasons? I thought that was just a single year with "multiple season lengths" referring to the number of games in a particular season. That's why I was still kind of bummed, because I like developing teams over a number of years, just not with all the RPG and fake GM characters.

Im confused does "variable season lengths" mean more then one season or just chosing the amount of games you play within one season.

Being a huge Dell Demps fan (Pelicans GM), I'd really like to control the Pels as him. I like the idea of MyGM but I don't like that fantasy aspect in my association. So yes, I could create Dell Demps as my MyPLAYER but, when I go to do MyCAREER, I want it to be me.

Don't know whether anyone has covered this, but have we seen any details about Create a Player? The CAP shown is LD2k, who has likely been face-scanned. We also saw a face-scan of the guy from Bleacher Report.

I know they aren't doing face-scans with PSeye or Kinect. Is CAP going to be done using a catalog of real faces?

Actually, you might be right.

Not sure, what he means by, "multiple season lengths." Could be one season 41 games instead of 82. Or it could mean 1 to 20 seasons. Need some further clarification from someone in the know.

That could make or break this game for many people.

Yes. One season it seems.

At first I thought it was multiple seasons, but it seems that you are given the option of one season with "varying lengths."

It means how many games in one season.
