NBA 2K14 News Post

NBA 2K14 on next-gen looks great, plays great. Features are missing though.

To port or not to port? That is the question.

In 2006, 2K took a different approach to their first game on the next gen consoles. 2K simply upgraded the graphics and ported over all of the features in the current gen version. That was the safe approach and most people were happy with it by and large.

This time around 2K wants OS'ers to know one thing: The next gen version of NBA 2K14 is not a port. But is that a good thing?

We don't know their marketing strategy... bad from others good for some... nobody can please anyone....

I'm not saying its good to take it out some features loved by some (some like my player, etc), what i'm trying to say is if they put all things that they think players want or ask from forums like this, there will be no next NBA 2K...

now its the player will decide if they'll buy it or not...

Not a deal breaker but the custom sounds being taken out is a bummer. When you have those arena sounds play list loaded correctly it makes the sound of the game seem way more realistic. So many of my friends used to be so jealous when they heard that when they stop by my house. Something like that feature is shocking how it didn't convert over. Happy to hear upgrades to my player I actually really like that mode and that takes up most of my time.

ITS NOT THE END OF NEXT GEN ITS JUST A START...
To me the cpu can improve only so much. Will the CPU acknowledge how teams set rotations in real life? I hated seeing Manu on the court as a starter when he is a 6th man.

What is going to happen for free agency or for the draft? Will proper draft picks be with the proper teams? Will a team trade there star SF for 3 PG's?

All of these things are what is concerning me. The little details that make this franchise so great. Being able to experience the game you want it. Not having to be forced. Association had it's flaws but atleast I could control my league.

It's not a game breaking thing but it is a concern I have that this will just be a one team thing. And with me and others getting the game it shows we are ok with it. I'm not ok with this change. But I want to experience this game on NG.

I feel so conflicted.
Yea im in the same boat as you, I've already fully invested in my Ps4 and 2k14, and I really havent enjoyed the current gen version so I was depending on next gen for my basketball needs, but I have gone from totally excited to I need questions answered before I buy this game, which sucks.

"Also gone are practice plays."

Why? The game has beard sweat, but you can't practice plays. This seems like an obvious thing to have in any basketball game. How are you supposed to feel out an offense... see what works, what doesn't work, what you can use to break certain zones? This, in my opinion, is a terrible omission.

Most may not agree with my assessment, but I believe, this was undoubtedly the best course of action 2k could have taken. I have the pc version of 2k, and I will continue to play based on the fact that I can get season mode, play offs and path to greatness which has not been confirmed for next gen. *Folks we are not in the PS2 era where these current gen will be unplayable once we get these shiny new consoles. Lately I have been more of a pick and play guy so NBA today has been great for that. *All I am saying is that, there is a a justifiable reason to spend money on both version of the games, and after all Take two and 2k are in the business of making money and catering to their fans, so I respect that.

Yes I did. I agreed with everything you said about multi team association. How much stuff did they remove in total?

# 69 lsu4life86 @ 10/24/13 12:39 PM
I just hope they have the same association settings in myGM like force trade, cpu trades on/off, etc

would really like a commissioner setting allowing or rejecting trades being conducted between the computer.

There is one thing that will prevent me from buying this year. Me and my friends get together sometimes and play offline co-op association. It's more challenging then you would think. If they remove the ability to play co-op in offline MyGm its defiantly isn't a buy for me.

Right... for its how they drastically improve their gameplays from CG to NG... NBA 2K14 CG is not bad, but it has same issues that they had in their previous games (like you said)....

I hope 2K really focus on that angle after they decide to take out some features that player loved about... with that they can still get their target sales....

the question here is because im a big OA player, did they fix all the glitches! i can care less about the other crap, i do play myplayer, and which why i bought this game was for those 2 things, but right now in current gen OA is so glitched you cant even play yr 2 because of it!

Yeah you and me both. This news killed my buzz a little bit for the game. I was so excited for Association. Even if it was just a port over mode.

I'm a control freak and I can never decide on just controlling one team. I love making realistic trades to help out other teams or simply replicate what I see in real life.

By no means (as I've stated before) that this is a game breaking change (plus I literally have no choice as I've invested in this game thinking it would atleast have Association with a 30 team control option). If this GM Mode is expanded next year to a 30 team control option then all is good. As well as bringing back all the other things that didn't make it over to Next Gen.

I think all of us who LOVE to play Association was excited for Association in next gen before this news broke out. And I'm a control freak. I LOVE to control my own team. Run a full scrimmages in practice with my team. Not role play as a GM. Real bummer.

Don't know yet but it doesn't look good for old fans of the association. I think the Madden comparison is a fair one. They like EA weren't satisfied with the franchise mode and decided to build a new foundation. Mygm is the new foundation. Like with madden and ccm many people will love it and many will hate it.

This is just my opinion but many of the things that I heard during the presentation and during my short time talking to devs were similar to what Josh Looman said about ccm last year.

The bottom line is without complete control....the mode isn't for me. I have madden and the show and I can ignore their flaws because the game gives me complete control over the entire league in franchise. That's not the case in mygm. I just have to accept that my type of player is becoming the minority. Ppl are more focused on online and single player modes now.

It hurts that they removed things. I'll keep judgement for when the game comes out. But will say I'm pretty happy I made the choice not to get the next gen until next year. Not as excited as I was before.

Yeah I felt like I got kicked in the gut when I read this last night. I didn't want to believe it was true.

So true, I especially did not expect it from 2k. This team and the show devs are the only ones I trusted to keep the things I love in the game going forward. Now I feel crushed. I may have to do what I did with 2k5 and just run a season in exhibition with spreadsheets, sigh. It just depends whether I can handle playing the pc version after getting a taste of the ps4.

I just want to say that I am intrigued and kinda disappointed at the same time.

I've always hated having to "control" all 30 teams in order to get the right rotations, etc... but I've also understood why I've had to do that. Hopefully the concerns most Assoc mode players have had with the mode have been at minimum addressed and tweaked/overhauled for the better.

My biggest concern as of now is the functionality of editing players. We saw w/ Madden when CCM popped onto scene that they cut out editing, we can only hope 2K doesn't go as far.
