NBA Live 14 News Post

Episode 49 of the Press Row Podcast features an in-depth interview by host Rich Grisham (@richgrisham) with NBA Live 14 Gameplay Designer Scott O’Gallagher (@ScottOGallagher). Scott talks at length about some of the challenges the team has experienced in bringing NBA Live 14 to life, all of the gameplay features and controls, and the ways that NBA Live will set itself apart from its own heritage and the competition. While there is much about the game that has yet to be announced – and therefore isn’t discussed here – it’s an interesting view into the game now that it’s almost time to be unveiled to a waiting community.

This dude sounds so unenthusiastic about this game. Youd figure if you havent released a game in about 3 or 4 years that you'd be extremely stoked for your new product. All I know is 2k's Next-gen looks way more realistic and sure they havent released any gameplay yet but if were comparing trailers then any of the 2k next gen ones blow the one wack Live one away. People will buy live just for a change of pace but theres no way live even threatens 2k in my opinion. Also how the hell they gonna get "hacked" and say theres 7 or 8 trailers coming out then reduce it to 3? sounds like they dont wanna release any looks at the game cuz they know its not gonna hold its own weight. The players may dribble the ball better but the movements have always been so fake the players just look and feel like they are floating above the court in Live. Hands down I was more excited today for 2ks 1 screen shot then anything I heard from this entire interview.

shooting on the face buttons is very disappointing for me.

i rather shoot off the face buttons to me, the dribble stick and 1 to 1 movement and responsiveness sounds good to me

All of these games coming out on launch, aren't what they're all cracked up to be. It's as I've said in another post -- just wait next year to purchase a sports game (well any next gen game rather) with your hard earned money, and just rent the games via gamefly. I just have a feeling that 2014 is going to be one amazing year in gaming.
I looked at him not being satisfied as motivation to get better. If you watched Peyton manning interview last week after they scored 51 points that game, he didn't talk about how awesome they played he talked about all the mistakes they made and how they need to improve. The great ones are never satisfied with where they are but looking to improve all the time. Just my opinion. I expect a serviceable game but I agree with you that 2014 should be mind blowing!

I preordered NBA Live based on this podcast. I don't need someone to sell me on it. Just explain the game and let me see it and how it works. When the explanation of how differently the PG's play has me taking the leap. Don't get it twisted, still getting NBA2K

Peyton Manning can speak about mistakes after scoring 51 points because he's earned the right to and has been to the top before.

He has earned the right to be called "a great one".

Let's keep things in perspective.

Just saying...

horrible interview...and its not the interviewers fault the dude barely said anything important like...

Why did elite even happen ?

Why was live 10 code scrapped ?

When can we except more info ?

Its like why even do a interview if you can't answer any real questions ...smh

Lmao good 1 hip hop gamer had them dudes from ea lookin mad uncomfortable lmao. I liked the interview I had to calm down over the past week since we've all been lied to about gameplay videos. What I like most is he understands philosophies of basketball. Some just played and knew what they were supposed to do he seems like he understands what everyone is supposed to do. Another thing I liked was when he moon walked around a question he explain why he couldn't answer.

My point is he never explained or answered any of the questions live fans want to hear. Its pretty clear in that interview that he could not really talk too much about anything in terms of info about this years game. But I firgure at least he should explain why explain why live is were it is today. He was asked that question but he never give a clear answer.

I left that interview knowing more about him then NBA Live 14

He was not a part of Elite of Live 10 so why ask him those questions, I respect what he has to say but there was little to no new information given, we are still with wait and see with EA and we should just trust them. During the interview he made a statement about showing not anything until the game is finished that would be fine 2-3 months ago but we are a month away from release the game should be Gold, also he said he was not a part of the team until a month before the cancellation of Live 13 which just make me wonder was 14 a evolution of 13 or a brand new game which would mean it has only been in development for a year.

I like what I've heard. It sounds very promising. Looking forward to a solid experience.

Yeah, this guy (interviewee) needs to improve interviewing skills. He has basketball knowledge, but not technical knowledge. Even if there were canned responses about controls, engines, AI, features,...these are things that he should have on paper in front of him for phone interviews like this. OR, this should've been a conference call with more than 1 rep.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but it all depends on when they received the dev kits for the PS4 and XBone.

The brand new game stuff is not happening. Not realistic IMO.

Elite was clearly built off of Live 10.

My only assumption is that '14 was done the same way/in a similar fashion. I'm just curious as to what % of animations they scrapped from Elite and what % are brand new.

Yep, me too, and i like the honesty in him. I just don't understand why they have yet to show anything significant about the gameplay aspect of the game.
