Operation Sports - Press Row Podcast: NBA Live 14 Gameplay with Scott O’Gallagher

Episode 49 of the Press Row Podcast features an in-depth interview by host Rich Grisham (@richgrisham) with NBA Live 14 Gameplay Designer Scott O’Gallagher (@ScottOGallagher). Scott talks at length about some of the challenges the team has experienced in bringing NBA Live 14 to life, all of the gameplay features and controls, and the ways that NBA Live will set itself apart from its own heritage and the competition. While there is much about the game that has yet to be announced – and therefore isn’t discussed here – it’s an interesting view into the game now that it’s almost time to be unveiled to a waiting community.

"To be continued..." Lol. Apparently it takes Kyrie a month to make a layup. That trailer came out in mid-September. It's now MID-OCTOBER, and we STILL haven't seen what follows.

A MONTH. Ridiculous.

Personally, i think NBA LIVE 14 is unpolished. I mean, we have about what... a month left before the release of the game and you're going to tell me the game is not done yet?? It doesn't make sense. I don't know what is holding them back. I hope i am wrong because NBA2k14 (next gen) haven't released any real game footage either. But man, if you're working for 4 yrs, i am sure the game is pretty polished and ready to go but the guy sound like he's not excited about the game. I really hate NBA2k sports after 2k7 cuz everything seems to play at a slow speed whether it's due to physics or what but whatever they put him it doesn't look real to me compare to an actual NBA game in real life. So, for this reason i want NBA LIVE 14 to succeed...iam sick of NBA2k. I haven't been playing it since 2k7.

I'm not being smart here, but we've never seen a next gen game before and I am honestly being 100% sincere when I say that..... now is a fun time, because the possibilities are endless.....hopefully we don't get hit with a harsh dose of reality upon release......

MAYBE, just maybe, next gen will allow devs to get some in-depth defensive concepts......

Early in the podcast he did speak a bit about pick and roll defences and the level of attention pick and roll got (offense and defense)...... but there is a part of me that thinks he started to actually get side tracked and blurred a line between real basketball and whats actually in the game.......

Personally I think anyone that has high hopes for this game is delusional, given EA's history in general and it's recent basketball history to be more specific. Seriously, how many times does EA have to dump on you before you no longer trust them? My God, there are still people that think next-gen Madden is going to be good even given the disastrous videos shown on ESPN.

I can see being hopeful that Live is something different from 2K (which has it's share of problems) and offers up a decent alternative but to really believe EA is gonna pull this off this year is, as I said, delusional, IMO. And for the record, I hope I am wrong.
