Madden NFL 25 News Post

This is all in-game footage from the trailer for Madden NFL 25, which debuted today at EA's E3 press conference. Also announced during the show, Adrian Peterson will be the cover athlete of the next-gen version of Madden NFL 25, not Barry Sanders, who will continue to be the cover athlete for the 360 and PS3 versions.

If nothing else, it appears that this game won't be an utter disaster a la Madden 06 (360). I look forward to seeing more.

With such a short video and such critique, I swear most of you will never be satisfied.

One technique that EA uses to mask a lot of their problems is using custom camera angles and quick transitions to hide flaws in the game. Obviously, the trailer is going to show the best of the best that the game has to offer, but I want to know what I'll be getting 24/7. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

This "new running" is not very "new" and is still very flawed in my opinion. The foot planting looks very good, weight appears to play out in the animations, but the form of running is not how any NFL coach would teach his players to run with the football.

Line play looks much better, but it's not great. It's still largely animation based, and ratings don't appear to be as much of a factor. (I know it's early, but just my first impressions.) Justin Smith is getting manhandled by Alfred Morris, who was very average in pass protection last season. Just because the blocking may look more realistic, it doesn't mean it will play more realistically. Until I see a varied arsenal of moves from edge rushers, DT's no longer overpowered, and edge rushers fast and explosive, I will not be that impressed.

All in all, this is very much so a HYPE trailer as opposed to a GAMEPLAY trailer. If you're going to market it as the latter, don't give me dramatic music and shots of RG3 yelling out his cadence. That is PRESENTATION, which is a critical element in advertising and hype. The lack of urgency on EA's part to reveal footage of concrete gameplay in their trailer signals to me that they don't have much to be proud of.

My 2 cents...
Justin Smith doesn't bust through the line...he fails to get a sack or tackle more than 70 percent of the time he's on the field.
Some of the best running backs of all time do not have proper running technique, no coach would teach his back to run like Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, or hold the ball with one hand like Walter Sweetness Payton did.
How would we see the nuances if they didn't do sizzle reels, cause if they only showed gameplay we'd miss alot of those same things.
My point is people expect things to be a certain way when that is not how it works in real life. Do you really understand how much players fail , especially linemen, in order to get one good play? A ton.

Me too. I haven't even been following the current gen version.

P.S. Good to see you again, old friend.

I see the defender running into Okung and Lynch putting his hand on Okung's back to slide through and avoid him.

I wanted real gameplay not another sizzle trailer. It was fine for what it was.

if you compare this to the garbage EA released as a first "next-gen" game (now current-gen) on the 360 and ps3, this series has a bit of promise to it....first iterations of new systems are never that great. this one already looks pretty good. i can't wait to see what upgrades we'll see in the coming 2-3 years.

I loved everything they said, but I didn't care for much that I saw. I don't think the game looked much better, and I thought movement was still really funky looking.

But if they deliver on everything they said about line play and CPU awareness, I'll be a happy man.

Hmmm ..... At the 43 sec mark, it looks eerily similar to some of that stuff that used to happen with pro tak.

I love what I saw before that cut up replay trailer. That's what got me hype I wanted to see foot planting, players making realistic reactions to what's happening in front of them, and Better OL/DL play. I'm interested to the point I won't be getting this on Current Gen anymore.

True, but typically that's because Justin Smith is double teamed by the guard and center. This leads into another point, double team blocking on passing plays, which isn't evident in the trailer. If Justin Smith went 1-on-1 with Morris, I can guarantee that 9/10 times Morris would get destroyed by Smith.

And no running back runs with perfect form, I also agree, but no running back runs hunched over like an old man with the flu and back spasms either...The animations need to represent the modern day style of running. If they could implement signature running styles, I would buy the game in a heartbeat, but I recognize that that is unlikely, and I would be willing to settle for some upright running with the bends in the proper places. By that, I mean much more bend in the knee joints rather than the lower back and hip. It's actually a very simple fix that can be done quickly. It's fundamental flaws like that which keep me from being too optimistic.

Lastly, I recognize the level of human failure in football, that's what makes the game great. However, the level of failure drastically increases as the skill level of the player decreases. Tom Brady will commit many less failures than Jay Cutler. This is why ratings should determine the level of failure in a game. Not just the flip of a coin. Blocking assignments should be blown by the lack of awareness among the o-line, not by just a random choice.

Things that I thought were impressive and have been sorely lacking this last gen. Player movement was as fluid as I've ever seen. DL/OL interaction was pretty amazing, it looked realistic, it looked like a trench war and I think that is what they were going for and they captured it. There were pretty amazing details shown, crowd looked alive, tackling looked pretty good (gang tackle there that wasn't a hug a la pro tak).

I can't wait to see more.
I completely agree, obviously wait until we see more. But this looks very encouraging, I also think graphics are a BIG part of the experience so I am pleased.

Actual game play and replay views of game play must be the same thing to EA (but not to me). That said, I think I can get by with the PS3 version this year...but I do not fear next gen is going to suck right away like last time.

The locomotion looks a lot better but in Madden and even in the fifa stuff you can still see the feet sliding which is odd for this lifelike player movement they are selling, also I still saw the same canned animation blocks getting sucked together, nothing organic.

Not to mention the post td celebration is people just clapping and the same hands up animations we have had since Madden 07.

This looks just like a port over to me from what I have seen.

I'm on board with the positive and skeptic comments in this thread, but I can't jive with a "ratings don't matter" comment based one play LOL.

Even if Alfred Morris is an average pass blocker, it's not unrealistic for him to step up and make a play. He may get rolled over the very next play -- that's the beauty of football.
