MLB 13 The Show News Post

One of the most anticipated features in MLB 13: The Show this season is The Show Live feature, which allows you to play any game of the MLB 2013 season with the correct rosters, pitching matchups, and conditions. Promised was situational accurate commentary, and other presentational touches to give you the feel that you are playing the exact game that is played in real life.

The initial returns of The Show Live's first full day on the job seems to be somewhat positive. However, there are several roster gaffes being reported, as well as other odds and ends including live scores not updating fast within the mode.

There are surely bugs that will continue to be worked out -- we will have our full review of this mode coming up later this week after we get some more time with it.

How is your first day with The Show Live going?

They may still not have Rookies or Prospects, but I noticed with the default roster Brian Wilson is in the Nats bullpen.
With the 4/22 roster, he is not.

It appears you must play with the SCEA roster of the week in which you are playing TSL.
So if you play a TSL game from 4/15-4/21 then you need to play with the 4/15 SCEA roster.

If I use the 4/22 roster and play a 4/21 TSL game, the rosters are inaccurate with F/As, but if I play today (4/22) with the 4/22 SCEA roster, they are correct and no F/As
Thanks very much for this info! I will give this a try. I had mistakenly been using the roster update from 4/8 that (I think) specifically said "Live Roster Update". Unless I missed something, the tutorial/explanation for using this mode properly needs to be clearer.

Lastly, there is also a "Save Live Roster" command in the Data Utility screen--do we need to use that in conjunction with the roster updates? What does this do?

Oh sorry, didn't see. So if you load the latest live roster then launch Show Live, it's up to date and more accurate?

THAT is the roster you want to save and load to play TSL!

Wait. So we can't just load the new roster? We need to both load the latest roster update (4/22 in this case) AND save it using the Save Live Roster command? Sorry, I'm really not an idiot, just a little confused about the exact process. Thanks!

Just save it once a week (Every Monday) and Load that new roster before you play TSL.

I loaded the latest online roster before going into The Show Live and I'm still seeing issues. Rookies from the first week such as Jackie Bradley Jr. for the Red Sox, Evan Gattis for the Braves, and Jedd Gyorko for the Padres still show up as "TBD" in the opening week games. When you actually play the games, they are not there like they are supposed to be. So no, loading the online roster does not solve all the problems.

Also, using L2 and R2 to scroll through the calendar doesn't even work anymore because it's already gotten so bloated.

EDIT: Also, playing the Red Sox @ Blue Jays game from 4/5/13 and Clay Buchholz is in Boston's closer spot. And yes, this is with the latest roster update loaded before I went into the mode.

I'm not home to verify, but I think you would need to load the live roster for that week... April 1, I believe.

That would be incredibly stupid if that's the case. I shouldn't have to keep all the rosters on my hard drive and load one for the week I want to play. This mode was advertised as pulling all the data from the servers so if the player is in the roster I have loaded, it should work. Horrible design if that's true, although I doubt it is.

I just played tonight's Braves @ Tigers game on The Show Live with the 4/22 rosters loaded and Brian Wilson was in the Tigers bullpen.

Guess this mode isn't for you.

What do you mean "isn't for me"? It isn't for anyone with these kinds of errors and the hoops you have to go through to supposedly make stuff work, which I haven't seen work anyways even with the latest roster update loaded, which has Jackie Bradley Jr. in it.

This mode was advertised as a way to play every game exactly as they happened at any point in the season. It's been almost a month and "TBD" is still the Red Sox left fielder for the first week of the season.

What's even dumber is that Jose Valverde is in the 4/22 roster as a free agent. So theoretically, the game should see on MLB's roster feed that Valverde is on the Tigers and place him on the roster. Even if Valverde wasn't there, there's no reason Brian Wilson should be on the Tigers.

I'm not sure if you were trying to be a smartass or not, but this mode has a lot more problems than simply being "not for me".

Let's face facts and admit that, despite how personally hyped I was for this feature, this mode probably should have been held off until MLB 14.

Your complaints are mostly valid. It's obvious this mode doesn't meet your requirments, so I guess this year it's not for you.

I've actually had some fun with it, but I really don't sweat the little stuff in this kind of mode.

You didn't load the roster before you played. I played that game, and the rosters were correct.

To me it's another SCEA fail after Diamond Dynasty. They should have wait or spend the cycles on something else .

Uh, yes I did. You honestly think I'm lying about this? I know how to load a damn roster.

Uh yeah... settle down.

I never said you were lying, or insinuated that you were. And honestly, it doesn't matter to me. Your displeasure in no way affects my enjoyment of the game/mode.

I said that because, I know you can load a roster, but if you don't go directly into TS Live, the rosters sometimes revert to default.

Good luck.

If you edit that players position on the online roster, then it should work, this is what I did for Carlos Maldonado, when he got taken out of the game in the top of the 1st

The latest server side maintenance cleaned up this mode some more (records, special events, lineups), as long as you load the current live roster. Of course, newly called-up minor leaguers still throw it for a loop.

hey guys. This is a question to those that enjoy playing a lot of games with The Show Live. If you're playing the current days game, what do you enjoy more..... playing the game BEFORE the real game has started (kinda like a preview to the real thing (especially at the start of a series), or do you enjoy it more AFTER the real game has been played?

just a preference thing. wanted your thoughts. thanks!
