Last impressions..
Best TW game I ever played. Really an enjoyable experience.
Need to take your time and look over the angles and use some strategy which I love.
Took a while to stop being a hacker but I'm getting there and love the County Club times.

Great job..

I couldn't agree more with the bolded. I find myself doing my damnedest to keep the ball below the hole on the greens. I hate down hill putts. I would rather have a 30 footer uphill that a 10 downhill everytime.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but in my club's 2nd round at Augusta today, I had two putts in which the "Follow" putting camera decided to switch to a postion - at impact - that was so far ahead of where the putt was struck from that the ball had rolled a good 15 or 20 feet before it even appeared in the camera frame!? I really didn't have a sense of what I was looking at! Heck, even after the ball rolled into the cut view camera frame in both putts, I couldn't tell how it was breaking because of the distant and obscure angle... (sigh). It's at times like this when the game just feels broken. I want to try to play the game until the patch is released in moderation, but crap like this really puts a damper on my enthusiasm

I can barely break 100 on a good day on a real course, but even I can hit a punch out of the woods and keep it low. Just choke up on a 5 iron and smack it out. (If there is a reliable way to do this, let me know, my punch shots always go way too high)
Agreed. This is my only real gripe so far (and it's become more of an issue now that I've upped my difficulty and spend a lot more time off the fairway). If I hit it into a group of trees, I'm stuck, as even a safe punch onto the fairway is blocked by leaves that are apparently made of stone...lol. I haven't played this series in a bit, but there used to be an option for a punch shot that I am definitely missing now.

Still, despite that, this is far and away the most realistic and enjoyable TW experience I've ever had, so it's easier to get past for me.

I picked this up last night after reading the reviews about simulation mode and watching some video--I'm impressed with this year's game. I bowed out of the Tiger Woods market a few years ago due to what could best be described as "irreconcilable difference" but clearly the focus of the game has shifted. I'll definitely have more to say as I get deeper into the game but I do have a few early impressions:

1. The game is much less "goofy" that it was around, say, Tiger 10-11. It has a much more serious tone, and for a golf game, I appreciate that.
2. It looks beautiful. I'm not a graphics junky but this is a pretty game. There are some weird camera hick-ups but I understand they're being patched. Even right now, the presentation and visual package is very good.
3. Simulation mode rocks. My first few holes were played with Zach Johnson at Augusta and my first tee shot was jacked into the right treeline on the first hole. I love that since I was pounding fairways on Tour Pro a few years ago.
4. I know it was added last year but the required draw/fade strike meter really is a huge addition. Not going dead straight back and dead straight forward on every swing does require a little more skill (and introduces more margin for error).
5. It doesn't matter long-term but starting with a created golfer who has a mid-handicapper skill set remains annoying. My poor guy started off being able to drive the ball about 240 off the tee. I totally understand having a baseline skill, but I think it's a little low, and forcing me to suffer through a bunch of rounds to boost his skills to playable numbers is annoying.
6. The replacement of the Tiger Challenges with the Online and CC Tournaments is a good change. I hated the Tiger Challenges.
7. The country club system is a very neat. I joined the OS PS3 Club and promptly posted a +13 on East Lake with my under-skilled golfer. My poor guy couldn't even reach a couple par 4s in two after drives in the fairway.
8. I know people are complaining about having to buy additional courses but 20 courses are A LOT of courses out of the box, especially considering the quality of the courses. I also love that Muirfield Village made it into the game this year. I had a serious Jack Nicklaus 6 flashback while playing it.

Anyway, so far so good. Compared to the last retail Tiger that I played, 11 I believe, this game feels like night-and-day in comparison.

I completely agree with just about everything you said. And I'm in a similar boat. I've bought Tiger games before but it always felt like an arcade game. Ever since the release I have been coming here with no expectations to check the game out, knowing people will be complaining about game killers. But I was wrong. I saw very few complaints, watched some youtube videos and then decided to pick it up since it was on sale at Target. Though it's only been two days, I'm impressed at how this game feels like a simulation game for the first time ever. I started in simulation mode, though due to the learning curve I've scaled some things back a little so I can get more used to it, but I intend to play simulation once I figure it all out.

Your point on #5 is something that drives me crazy about this series though. I don't have a lot of time to play, so I don't intend to play the career mode. In fact, the addition of the quick tournaments where you play the final round from a preset position is absolutely perfect for how I want to play this game.

But the problem is, if I want to use a created golfer of my likeness, I have to start with a really bad player and work him up. I'm not interested in that. I'd like to be able to create a golfer with stats that are already on par with the other pros in the game, so I can play on an level playing field.

I don't have this game yet, but the quick tournament only let's you play the final round? you can't actually play all 4 rounds?

I think it's only the final round. Though don't take my word for it because I haven't looked around in the options too much yet, as I'm only playing practice rounds.

I can also see how that may disappoint some people.

Quick Tournaments are final round only. [EDIT] You can play the Quick Tournament with your CAG (thanks SoxFan01605)

You can play them with your CAG as well.

Really? I tried to do it after reading the question and couldn't get my CAG to appear as an option...

[EDIT]: I went back and saw what I did wrong... I was unwittingly skipping past the first golfer in the list and going to the second (CPU) golfer. Thanks for correcting that! I'll go back and fix my original post so as not to mislead anyone else about this.

I would really like to reiterate how much fun I'm having with this game. I'm a level 56 with my golfer. For about 2 or 3 tournaments in a row I was hitting 15 or more fairways per round. It was getting easy. Well in my last two tournaments that has changed. Now I'm hitting 9-11 and driving balls into the trees on some holes. Just when I thought I may have to turn up the swing difficulty I'm shown that I shouldn't.

Despite driving so well in most of my tournaments, I still have yet to come close to shooting E. It's so annoying but fun at the same time. The best part is, once I do start to play a lot better, I can bump up the swing difficulty because I believe I put it down two spots from the Sim default. It's the only change I made and I'm just having a really good time.

Also question for everyone. Am I the only one who is waiting to play Augusta until I make the PGA Tour? This is the first TW game I've bought since it was included, and I just think that the only way I deserve to play the course is if I earn the right to. I just feel that is the only way to go about it. Right now it definitely isn't happening anytime soon.

As a golfer who shoots around 100 in real life, I'm used to hitting out of rough spots. I am forced to play from tree lined roughs from time to time and even I can make magic happen every blue moon. The ONLY problem I have with this game are the concrete leaves......

And you have to play Augusta this week! It's the masters! Why wait to watch its a wonderful life if it's Christmas eve?

I got caught up in the same 'worthiness' mindset for TW12, when the Masters first came to the series. It took two seasons in career mode to finally make it to Augusta, a couple of months of playing LOL. And...I was terrible when I got there.

Keep in mind though that golfers play Augusta IRL every day, including lots of PGA pros, to hone their skills and learn the course. So, consider playing some practice rounds at least as your right as a pro

# 295 mrsaito @ 04/12/13 10:40 AM
I ended up playing Augusta early in my career because I won the US Amatuer tourny...

# 296 Taku @ 04/12/13 10:45 AM
I'm still switching between weather options in my career. Seems like if something else than PreDetermined is chosen the Caddie book shows wrong conditions. If I choose weather to be Live and I can clearly see that weather is calm but the Caddie book shows Windy for example. Same thing with green speeds(not sure though).

Now this is not a game breaking problem but what I wonder is that is AI scoring tied to Predetermined weather or the actual weather?

I'm definitely shooting a few practice rounds at Augusta.

I've been just shooting practice rounds trying to level my golfer up some more. I can still only drive about 250 yards which makes playing from the black tees tough.

I assumed that my lack of birdies was due to the lack of distance off the tee, since I was usually hitting a longer iron for the 2nd shot. However I wanted to level up faster so I played a few rounds from the red tees (lol) and I noticed that approach shots were still tough from in close. Even in easy conditions it seems a lot harder to dial in really good approach shots that set up realistic birdie putts. It isn't like my approaches are terrible or anything, but there's a real challenge to get it close. I think my lack of points in the spin attribute are part of it too.

I finally had one round where I started to dial things in on Whistling Straights (again from the red tees, so lots of short, easy approaches). So far I'm really enjoying it.

Does anyone know what level your max power attributes go up? I'm at 75 max now and my golfer is level 60-something (I just got the game this week, but imported my XP from TW13).

So quick question but I'll explain my situation real quick. I'm in my 2nd year on the web.com Tour and I just finished the Kiawah Island Tournament. I qualified to play in the Hotel Island Championship, which in my first year I didn't qualify for. I'm assuming this also means I get to play in the remaining 3 tournaments after the Hotel Championship as well. I haven't finished better than the top 23 for any tournament and I think I'm 72nd on the money list. So with that on to my question. What are the requirements for me advancing to the PGA Tour? I would just like to know what my goal should be.

# 299 Taku @ 04/12/13 03:27 PM
Isn't it explained in Career Info in the menus? Been a while since I was playing the web.com tour so I can't remember really. There's a qualification for web.com tour finals and top 25 gets the card from there or something?

# 300 Taku @ 04/12/13 04:40 PM
So I'm not just seeing things here. I played a round on PGA tour with Live weather in calm conditions and played 7 under par and caddie book showed windy conditions and whole field struggled to break par. It felt like I was cheating.
