A lot of storytelling goes on during nine inning games that last 162 days out of the season.

all sports games do, i put that up in response to the guy who said announcers are not capable of showing emotion on this generation of consoles. not in regards to repetitive comments.

and as far as non stop talking, trust me, i don't want that either cause thats just as annoying as dead air.
but i sure as heck don't want the announcers to have nothing to say when game one lineups are introduced, thats for sure.

It's not that the commentary is bad or anything it's just that Vasgersian is just plain boring. With a video game you need someone that is slightly over the top in order to add a bit of excitement at times.

The commentary is flat out terrible...How can 2K basketball have emotion and a million times better commentary. A huge dunk or 3 the announcers go crazy. In the Show is like a foul ball during spring training.
Listen, I have been one of the biggest complainers about this. However, look at what they are doing. Every area continually gets upgraded. They added Steve Lyons this year. Yes, it is a work in progress but they can only focus on so much at one time. Not an excuse but they are developing for the PSVita and no doubt the PS4. Yet, they did a ton of work for this year's addition. They are listening we will just have to be patient my friend!

The commentary is toast people.. Engine.. Memory.. Whatever. It's a fact that the commentary is very "dead" sounding.. Post season game.. Exciting atmosphere and announcers that hardly said anything in over 7 minutes.. That's not how a real broadcast sounds.. Unless you're stereotyping baseball commentary (which is just calls and little to no stories and interaction between the announcers)

Lots of improvements overall but nothing too game changing. I kind of wish we could, at the very least, hear the end of the National Anthem.

I'll echo what everyone else has said, the commentary is a snooze fest. If you really think non boring commentary isn't possible then go watch youtube vids of the other game. We all love The Show, but everyone that's defending the commentary like we're insulting their mothers needs to stop. The "White Knighting" (no pun intended Knight) for The Show on these forums gets really old. Just because people point out a flaw with the game, that doesn't mean that we don't like the game or its developer. We all appreciate the work they put in year in and year out. We also appreciate how active they are responding to us and our concerns. As well as how they work with us to stamp out any flaws the game may have.

With that being said the lack of updates to the commentary year in and year out is a concern. If there is one thing SCEA still struggles with it is the commentary. 2K sports (all their games), Fifa, NHL, and I'm sure there are others have commentary that is very good. All commentary is going to get repetitive regardless of what game it is. The problem with The Show is that it is already boring enough as it is, but then it also gets repetitive very quickly. Its an unfortunate issue that we have to deal with for now along with the NCAA and Madden people

Yea but they added another guy to the booth a few years back (I don't remember which one) and he added virtually nothing to the table. Seems like Lyon is the same way. There needs to be some kind of back and forth especially if you are going to have 3 guys in the booth. Instead one guy says 90% of the stuff and the other 2 add maybe 10%

That's what bugs me the most as well... by far the easiest solution is to reduce the length of the cutscene 3-5 seconds. They could also have one of the guys say something generic like "The Nationals are 1st in the NL in average this year, batting .280 as a team." That way they don't even have to mention names for when the roster turns over.

Even the best commentary gets stale pretty fast. And I don't really like the player specific banter that other games do, because once you hear it once, you get tired of it, and you usually hear it every single game. Ugh.

Just give me some generic play-by-play commentary and I'm happy. I usually just end up using the Music Mode anyway.

THIS IS by far one of the most on point posts I've EVER read on here.. And I'm on here in threads EVERYDAY. This is exactly how I feel. Too many people get burned for being honest.. There's the ones that seem like they are secret workers for SECA.. And ones who make ridiculous points. But the commentary is not something anyone pays any attention to any ore because, well... There's nothing else to be found really:/ I love the show Though and it's the only game I get EVERY year.

The Presentation looked astounding to me, just glancing over, looking at the overlays and OSD's I'd think it was a real broadcast. Commentary is what it is and people think like they do. It may get fixed on PS4, heck it may not but this is what we got for 13.

Then I believe you are on the wrong forum bud.

Wtf? ABSOLUTELY no emotion from Matt V when Harper in that homerun? Come on........

# 33 Rob_NYY @ 02/27/13 06:58 PM
I love The Show, I play it more than any other game and it's not even close. The game is so close to perfection for a baseball fan that it's scary. However, I have to agree with pretty much everyone else, the commentary has really lagged behind the rest of the game. There is way too much dead air and it just doesn't sound like the three announcers are actually together in the booth; they never seem to interact with each other. They just throw out random lines when appropriate and go silent again.

There also needs to be more excitement on calls like the homerun in the video. A homerun for the home team in the first inning of a Game 1 should sound differently than a homerun in May.

Besides commentary, The Show 13 is looking amazing!!

Re: Commentary.

I am sure they would love to go in a new direction/start over with the commentary.
But lot of other things needed tending to this year as well. I guess a voice-over revamp wasn't a smart idea this late in the cycle maybe? Too much voice work to do seeing as this is like 8 years or so worth of matt going strong in the script.
I guess they figured, throw us a bone and get rid of Soup, who was getting on peoples nerves, and that'll solve some of the announcing woes and keep us complainers at bay.
Well, they gave us Lyons, which I'd like to thank them for, but I didn't hear him hardly in this clip to know if he was worth it! lol

Also, he sounds too much like Karros IMO

The dead air in this clip really clashes with the otherwise stellar Postseason atmosphere.
If this was a May clip, 'd still have a beef, but if stands out even more against the october backdrop

Screw it.
Grab Thorne and lets do this in 14.

though that would be hard to progam i would think... Different HR calls for different innings/situations/walkoffs, etc. right?

# 37 Lovesports @ 02/27/13 07:10 PM
The show's poor commentary has nothing to do with system capabilities. Its all about the delivery of the commentary. Madden didnt revolutionize anything this year, they simply got rid of collinsworth. Nba commentary is lively period. Sure its repetitive, every game is after playing it for a couple of days. Point is, this can easily be fixed with better commentators, more excitment and better lines

Lame as hell specially for a pimped out mode called Post season where the only thing diff is the overlays.

You call talk about sports games needing to have better presentation and atmosphere yet for the show the excuses are everywhere. Dead air and no emotion in POst Season game on a hr. He called it like it was a back up infielder in a spring training game between royals and astros.
Why dont we wait to see more then 1-2 innings?

Somewhat true and funny! Post season mode looks like its more of true eye candy then true atomsphere and commentary:/ but it's still great but this is only a short video.. If a whole game is like this, then I won't be nearly as excited about reaching the postseason in franchise mode as I was looking at before hand

Who cares about the commentary. If the commentary is completely unbearable to you, it's easy to fix that problem. Mute your TV and listen to some music or the local sports radio station. I understand Matty V is a bit bland in the game, but do you honestly hang on every word he says? I know that when I am listening to Matty V while playing the game, I'm concentrating of what pitch to throw next or what the opposing pitcher is going to throw to get me out.
