MLB 2K13 News Post

Thanks to Flaxseed Oil and a visit to his local Best Buy, we have a few MLB 2K13 player ratings, videos and impressions.
  • Graphics and menus are exactly the same as MLB 2K12.
  • A lot of commentary sounded exactly the same, but there are a few more lines, as noted in a video commenting on Bryce Harper's rookie campaign.
  • The ball seemed to be bouncing slightly differently. Couldn't put my finger on it, but it seemed lighter and bouncier.
  • Running looked a little different, as it seems like they did improve that animation.
  • I played an all-star game and didn't notice any new signature styles.
  • The colors do seem fixed with the uniforms, but Citi Field's colors seemed way off for the outfield wall. Almost looked powder blue.
  • Pitch speed seemed really, really slow...but that can be fixed.
  • The crowd did look a little better, but that might just be because of the TV I was playing on.
  • The pitching motions looked smoothed out...no more frame stuttering from what i could tell.
  • Astros in the AL.
  • I didnt see any inside the park home runs or glitches, but the outfield felt exactly the same. However, I do think they modified the fielding camera some...it felt more zoomed in on the main fielder than before and got closer as they approached the ball.

I went and played last night for about 45 mins at best buy and I decided I will pick this game up...but I'm going to trade in some older stuff first, because I don't want to pay the full 60. I'd say it's a 45-50 dollar game, but definitely fun.
yea 60 is a tough pill to swallow.
But if a few of the franchise mode glitches were fixed, I might cancel my other game pre-order and go with this.
I am a sucker for this presentation/franchise mode!

Thanks for the hands-on impressions jmount78 and Flaxseed Oil!
Flaxseed, 2K should send you a free copy for uploading those vids. You've done more work promoting this game than their marketing team. I want to laugh, but it's the truth.

I'll probably wait 2 weeks for the price to drop.
I know I said I'd pay full price on release day, but I'm guessing the price is going to drop in this baby by March Break.

One of the main things that killed me were the unrealistic sprints after rockets that no human, not even my favorite Ozzie SMith would get to, that 25 anticipatin seemed to fix.

The 1:30 mark shows the same crazy sprint, it looks like the 3rd baseman gets shot out of a cannon and flails his arms as he try to decellerate. Don't like it.

BUT, if they fixed the dreaded cut off alignments and got pitchers asses over to cover first better, I could test the attributes again to try to slow them down. So they react, not anticipate.

Thanks for the video Flaxseed. The Pujols signature style was spot on. Love the mannerisms they showed when he stepped-out of the box after he swung and missed. That is something 2k has always done very well.

As for that grounder to Beltre, I'm not gonna get to mad. Yeah the animation seemed a little fast, but I'm sure it can be fixed with some slider tweaks. The more I see & the closer the release gets, the more I'm leaning towards a day-1 purchase.

EDIT: Also love Byrce Hapers signature style

Harper's Sig Style is actually Sandoval's sig style.

Does Profar have a portrait picture or a generic face?

# 48 Flaxseed Oil @ 03/01/13 05:08 PM
Generic. He was rated at either 80 or 90 though, I can't remember.

If anyone catches another video, any chance you could show Progressive Field. Thanks!,

Did they fix the player pictures so they are actually wearing the new Jays hat? I found that to be a little bit annoying last year that they were still in the older hats, even though they had switched prior to release.

I'll be going to my local BB today to check on the franchise glitches from last year:

- bald head aliens

- injury history only showing the last injury, not all

- a player losing his place in the stat categories once he goes/and returns from the DL

any other franchise stuff to look out for?

For whatever reason, over the years, this is the area that has really hindered franchise mode. Injuries and the handling of them. Or lack of them. If they can clear these types of things up the franchise mode would be very strong.

Just like last year, I'll be getting the game early (will be picking it up after work tonight, getting home around midnight EDT). If anyone has any specific questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

Can't wait to hear your impressions. If they fixed the AI issue where the pitcher bats late in the game with men on base in a tight game, I'll be ecstatic. Just AI in general, would be nice to know if they enhanced the CPU AI.

I went to Best Buy today for the first time to give it a whirl. Sadly to say (for people asking), I didn't go there to post ratings or anything. However, I did bring my video camera, and I'm going to upload three "1st inning" gameplay videos of different teams.

I did my own sliders and settings adjustments, because IMO this game is hideous, ugly, and unplayable with default values. I had to do tweaks mid-game sometimes because they seemed to change. No matter.

I will apologize that I don't put too many balls in play when batting, and I can attribute that to a few things:

1) I was trying out the check swing system, and most times I forgot that the check swing not only doesn't work well in this game, but that it doesn't happen the same way The Show does it, which is what I'm used to. So you'll see a lot of random swings and misses.

2) The TV has pretty bad input lag. You'll see that I sometimes botch my pitches as well for the same reason.

3) In the game when I'm the Angles, my camera battery was dying, so I just tried really hard to put a bunch of balls in play, and it didn't really work.

Anyway, I'll be posting them as soon as they're uploaded. I also tweaked the audio settings, so hopefully my camera captured some of it (the TV was pretty quiet and I couldn't change the volume). I hope you enjoy!

EDIT: As far as quick impressions, I really do like this game with proper adjustments. I think that from previously owning 2K10, I had issues that were tough to look past. Two of them still exist (the way that you check swing and the fact you can't turn off the pitching cursor), and there are still poor sound effects, framerate issues, and ugly crowds/faces, etc... but it's a good brand of baseball, has a few more good customizable tweaks since 2K10, and I don't mind pretending that this is just the "next year" since 2K10 on my end, since that's the last version I purchased. In other words, this is a worthy step up from that game.

In short, if I wasn't already buying the PS3 and Vita versions of The Show and buying Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2013 this year (which is pretty costly to get from Japan, mind you), the NBA/MLB 2K13 combo pack would be an easy purchase for me. I still might get it! I know I'm going to Redbox this game when available and see what I can squeeze out of it for the time being.

The first video has almost finished uploading. Hopefully my videos will reflect some good that you can get out of what you might expect in an inning of play, lol.

You lucked out. This is one of the videos I recorded. You'll see it when uploaded.

Here they are:

# 57 Cavicchi @ 03/02/13 06:33 PM
oops, wrong team.

# 58 bigfnjoe96 @ 03/02/13 06:34 PM
Wish they would have fixed up all the replay stuff they show after runs score.

It's been the same way since 2k10. Fielders standing on top of bases & runners basically running thru them, especially @ home plate

I really appreciate the videos that you guys have posted. I was just going to rent this at first, but I've managed to hype myself up the past couple of days now that it's closer to release. I took advantage of the Gamestop trade-in deal and got $140. I paid off MLB 2K13 and a couple of other games as well. The game looks decent from what I've seen so far, I'm looking forward to it.

# 60 IowaAJ @ 03/02/13 06:51 PM
That looks pretty good
