MLB 2K13 News Post

Thanks to Flaxseed Oil and a visit to his local Best Buy, we have a few MLB 2K13 player ratings, videos and impressions.
 • Graphics and menus are exactly the same as MLB 2K12.
 • A lot of commentary sounded exactly the same, but there are a few more lines, as noted in a video commenting on Bryce Harper's rookie campaign.
 • The ball seemed to be bouncing slightly differently. Couldn't put my finger on it, but it seemed lighter and bouncier.
 • Running looked a little different, as it seems like they did improve that animation.
 • I played an all-star game and didn't notice any new signature styles.
 • The colors do seem fixed with the uniforms, but Citi Field's colors seemed way off for the outfield wall. Almost looked powder blue.
 • Pitch speed seemed really, really slow...but that can be fixed.
 • The crowd did look a little better, but that might just be because of the TV I was playing on.
 • The pitching motions looked smoothed out...no more frame stuttering from what i could tell.
 • Astros in the AL.
 • I didnt see any inside the park home runs or glitches, but the outfield felt exactly the same. However, I do think they modified the fielding camera some...it felt more zoomed in on the main fielder than before and got closer as they approached the ball.

Just played 20 minutes. Home teams were the Braves, Pirates and Indians. Turner Field doesn't have the This Is Braves Country. Julio Tehearn pitched and he looked good. Never announced his name. No Justin Upton and had Prado. Could have sworn I heard the Tomahawk music after one strike 3. Announcers brought up fan delay in playoffs. Played against the A's and they looked good. Cepedes? names was never announced but brought up A's winning division.

Indains had Swisher and Astros had new design and talked about how terrible their road record was. Indians also had Myers pitching.

Pirates stadium of PNC Park looked great. The city bakckground looked excellent.

Camera shots of last out on strike 3 were very sharp, and fielding was smoother. Pitching seemed a little more difficult but more enjoyable. Pitcher did walk to his own dugout after 3rd out instead of starting towards visitor clubhouse.

If I play again, will give updates.
Joe, can you check your swing in 2K8?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point with 2K baseball. I'd like to get 2K13 for the updated schedule, uniform colors and rosters, but then the guys on the boards here have done great things with 2K12; the gameplay videos that have been posted look like a completely different game, and that is impressive.

Are there plans to make those edits for 2K13?
The game does play completely different. Maybe I'm crazy but I haven't seen the glitches that I used to, like not throwing and stuff like that. They seem to play a calm less frantic game of baseball.

In my theory / opinion, the anticipation attribute gets them going too quickly and the animations can't keep up with their decision making. Similar to the goalies in NHL 2k10. Dropping aniticipation immediatly calmed them from split saving everything.

I like to tinker with attributes in baseball and hockey games. We'll see if 2k13 needs to be tinkered with. Hopefully they read the impressions post edit, saw some of the gameplay videos and tuned their game to implement that improvement. We'll see

I really hope so too.
But honestly, and as big of a 2K supporter that I am, I'd be shocked if one employee of 2KSports ever came on these boards.
The edits you've performed have made such a drastic improvement, I would hope that 2K could acknowledge their benefit and implement them in 2K13.

Might give 2K13 a shot this year...diggin' the lighting in the game, announcers, & the ballparks, but what is w/ the Yosemite Sam voice overs & the umps? small pet peeve, but they need new player models & some new umpire voice overs fo sho.

The player models definitely need a lot more work.
Looking at the other game, or games like Madden and NHL, these models are behind the 8-ball.

I've said it before and I'll repeat myself again, if MLB2K had the same visuals as The Show, I think it wouldn't get crapped on nearly as much.

Trying too see if the CPU has urgency when throwing home and getting the ball to the cutoff man. I see they got some colors right, but this is a primary concern for me...thanks!!!!!
Outfielders still kind of jog after the ball.

I might even buy 2K12 just for these edits. It sounds like you found the holy grail of attribute changes here Shogun. Great work!
Reditor opens 2k11 roster as well so i'm hoping and think it will likely work for 2k13.

I agree. The player models/faces need a lot of work, but for me, it's not a huge deal. I'd rather see better running/fielding/throwing/batting animations re-done before player faces get attention.

The faces are really strange in that some look really really good, i'd say at least as good as some in the show but others are horrible. It's as though they had one good graphic designer (or whatever they're called) and others that were still in grade school.

DJ, check swings work when using Swing Stick. I tried Swing Stick 2.0 but I couldn't get check swings to work.

Some of those animations look very life like.

I think I may swing by GS this weekend and pick up a copy. Might get 2K12, too. I'd rather play with edited rosters than pay $60 for 2K13, which will play just like 2K12, minus the roster work done on this site.

Does anyone know if there are multiple gameplay cameras? Last year wasn't there only one camera when you were batting and it was from the batters perspective? Was very hard to see where the ball was going, so far away.

Nothing that ruins the game but it implies a lack of changes elsewhere.

Thanks for this.

Pretty much to me looks like the anticipation of the players results in outrageous acceleration after laser shots. Minute 1:30 of this video. Things do look smoother. But to me, where the 3rd baseman was playing, should be a hit.

He is at full tilt, there is no way he'd get 4 running strides from that position on that hard of a hit ball. 2k12 25 anticipation for me for a bit.

I will say this... someone asked me in the other thread before it got locked if this year's changes were enough to make me buy the game.

I went and played last night for about 45 mins at best buy and I decided I will pick this game up...but I'm going to trade in some older stuff first, because I don't want to pay the full 60. I'd say it's a 45-50 dollar game, but definitely fun.

Impresions from another 15 minutes of game play. Marlins stadium looks good, and the aquarium behind home plate looks great in cut scenes. Announcers talked a little about Miami going with the "youth movement". Played against the Blue Jays and both teams looked good in uniform.

Played A's versus Rangers in Oakland. Coliseum looks good. Hard to make it look any worse than real life. Anouncers mentioned Cespedes this time and said some new lines about the A's winning the division last year. Yu Darvish looked very good in the game and the announcers talked at length about Rangers collapse. Texas had Profar on the bench as well.

Fielding seems smoother and the throwing animations seem better. Pitching was just as good.
