NBA 2K13 News Post

During a recent interview with US Sports Down Under, NBA 2K13 Producer, Erick Boenisch let the cat out of the bag, as he confirmed no Crew Mode for NBA 2K13. This marks the second year in a row Crew Mode will not be featured in the game.

Quote:
We didn’t have time to add a crew mode this year, but its definitely something we will be looking at moving forward because the demand is certainly there.

Crew isn't that important and i'm sure team up is still there. We don't need another year of hacks and complaints about crew mode.

Isn't it clear that some of the drama queens here can't read?

I kid, guys.

I'm disappointed with the response of the Crewpies so far...bring your A game or do not bring it at all on your vicious responses to this intolerable act laid down upon crew nation.

If FDR were alive today I feel he would say something like this.

"Today, 9/18/2012-a date which will live in infamy- the United States of Crew was suddenly and deliberately attacked by producers and developers of the Empire of 2k. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the Crewpies in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. I believe I interpret the will of OS and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again. Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger. With confidence in our hacking abilities- with the unbounding determination of our people to clutter every thread on OS with crew related information - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God. I ask that OS declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by 2K on Tuesday, Sept 18th, a state of war now exists between the United States of Crew and the 2K Empire. "

No matter 2K13 had crew or not, those people who wanted crew back would be still complaining because:

- OMG the servers on Crew blow! They should have waited and fix their issues.

- WTF 2K! No Crew???

Sorry for you crew players, but this was actually a very informative article, and I think they are taking the right approach; get the servers right before bringing the mode back. Everyone complains about 2K's online servers, even more than they complain about no crew, so it's wise of them to fix that problem first.

Definitely read the article, though, as there's a lot of clarification of the other modes.

Regarding not having tiers for signature skills (outside of MyCareer), I don't think it's a big deal. It doesn't put everyone on the same playing field, as some are fearing. Remember, it only alters probability, but that probability is a % based on their rating. So, the player with the higher rating to begin with will still be better at performing his signature skill than another player with the same sig skill and a lower rating.

It was nice to get clarification on MyTeam. I know it won't replace crew, but it's not trying to; it's a completely different kind of mode. And I'm really excited for it. The mini-tournaments sound like they could add a lot of fun competition to the mode. Hopefully, people aren't allowed to spend real money on VC that allows them to build up their MyTeam at a faster rate than others. Would be nice to have an even playing field.

I was also really excited to read that they got tons of rookies to do motion capture this year. Will be nice to have a wide selection of players that feel like themselves. Should add nice depth to the gameplay.

Also, we got Kobe's sig skills:

shot creator, dead-eye, microwave, scrapper and closer

I see what they're doing with scrapper- sort of a way to give him a defensive presence now that he is no longer a lock-down defender. However, this just pinpoints the problem with a 5 skill limit; the fact that Kobe gets to have scrapper skills, but other insanely good players will probably not because they excel in too many areas (ie, will Rondo, Wade, Pierce, Ginobili, etc, have scrapper sig skills? Or will they be maxed out and have no room for it even though they scrap just as much, or more, than Kobe...)

- To trash talk Crew is to trash talk THE MOST realistic FORMAT when you compare it what actually takes place in real life basketball.

The Crew format = you controlling yourself, with human teammates, vs other humans controlling their my player. (league setting is best to mirror rec leagues, organized ball, etc)

Real life basketball = same thing

Real life basketball = NO BOTS. Sorry Association people. There's no robots I see on the court when I go play pickup or 24hr fitness. You rely on REAL CHEMISTRY and how to be the best HUMAN not the best "I Can jedi mind control 5 players at once"

I don think the height issue was the reason they didndt put the feature in the game.
If it were a height issue that could be an easy fix. but they could make it more in depth.
Height should be delegated like all the other attributes.
In other words give height and weight point system that factors into the rest of the players ratings etc. and based on the height, certain attributes would have a max value.
in other word you want to be a 7' pg, then the max handle value should be lower than a traditional pg, and other attributes should be weighted lower also-kind of like a attribute tax, or take longer to develop. In addition a durability attribute should be capped at a lower number for a 7' pg, call it a Greg Oden/injury prone attribute attribute.

there are number of ways to limit my player cheesing in crew mode.

You didn't read the piece. I would bet everything there was told to you or hinted enough that you of all people should understand the decision better than most.

Anyway, I'm sorry bro but it really confounds me how you expect people to have to go beyond and above the call for crew mode, when many things are taken for granted with other features in the game. Example - based on previous games people already know you can edit players. Nobody is going to ask "Are you able to edit a player? Let me ask someone who got the game early are able to Edit Players." C'mon man, that is just absurd. I'll be the first to admit crew fanatics on the forums are annoying, but statements like these are equally just as annoying. Crew was first featured and promoted on 2k10 along with MyPlayer, and then was not mentioned at all for 2k11 (not on the back cover, not in developer insights, nothing...) yet it was still in the game. With that precedent set, nobody had any reason to think it was NOT going to be in the game for 2k12.

Furthermore since console games have had the ability to make updates, the features in a game release do not represent the end-all be-all to all the game features that it will eventually provide. 2k12's online features were an ongoing work in progress well after the game was released. The website wasn't available at release, but it was eventually added. They eventually added fixes to the Online Association mode. Then there was some rumors going around that Crew would be added with that Legends Showcase DLC. Bottom line what I heard from Paste Padre, or on 2k forums, or on youtube prior to release is irrelevant. What I saw in the game when I got it was irrelevant. The game changes, rosters are updated, bugs are fixed, and features are added. The only way to know it wasn't going to be in the game was to hear it from the horse's mouth after the fact.

So I would like to state again, thank you 2k for letting us know beforehand. I'm still looking forward to 2k13, especially to destroy Pared's overrated Knicks

Wow! why not just grab ur torches and pitch forks and storm the 2K offices. I never cared about it anyway. I rather have a new 24/7 mode anyway.

I'm curious to know, what basketball game or 2K game modes did these crew guys play before 2K introduce Crew mode?

Another factor I think they are trying to figure out how to market it properly. 2k has figured out the opportunity this mode presents - this is to basketball what WoW is to RPG's. All these other companies are making money off online modes, so I think it might be some business decisions to be made too. Plus crew mode is probably the most demanding to their online infrastructure out of all the modes, they would be even more inclined to charge extra for it.

I really doubt when crew comes back it will be free within the game. Team up might be the "free" version that comes with the game, but crew might require an online pass or extra DLC.
