I personally think the perfect limit would be 7. It allows for an easier distinction of more tiers but also represents the all-time talents.

1 skill - Role Player
3 skills - Starter/All-Star
5 skills - Perennial All-Star
7 skills - 1st ballot HOF talent or Once-in-a-lifetime talent

Now if we can switch these skills out either on-the-fly or before a game for strategy purposes, that would be awesome, but I guess we'll find out today.

Ronnie 2k said some role players have more sig skills than some superstars. It's just to differentiate styles. However, it does seem that there are a handful of players who could easily have more than 5 (Jordan/LeBron come to mind). If they still are dominant in the areas they should be dominant, then it really won't make much of a difference. Hopefully.

i like this idea a lot.

I guess that makes sense. As long as players play how they're supposed to, doesn't really matter. It just feels...wrong giving Jordan only 5 when we know he's capable of more.

I hope "8" Kobe has all the skills he's supposed to have.

Cos I know my boys will be like Kobe don't have as much skills as Durant or LeBron, but then I can just pull out old school Kobe and show em whats up.

It will interesting to compare prime Kobe to now and see where 2k thinks prime Kobe fits with the all-time greats.

In that regard (making teammates better), I think Rose deserves "Floor General" as much as anyone. I'd say even more so than, say, Deron Williams, who gets more assists, as DWill can't take a bunch of role players and turn them into a playoff team.
Rose didn't take a bunch of Role Players into a playoff team either, he has a very good team...The best player Williams ever played with was Boozer.. He's the Bulls 4th maybe even 5th option and splits tons of time with back up Taj Gibson? He hasn't had near the team Rose has

Behind Rose, Hamilton, Deng?? And on offense Noah obviously isn't one of their go to guys but as far as his hustle, defense, rebounding, his value would rank higher than Boozers

Ok, my fault he averages 1 more shot per game than RIP, I looked it up, not like I was very far off anyways

Every statiscal value points towards Boozer being the 3rd option at the least.

also Deng and Boozer are neck and neck in touches and attempts ,jus sayin..

I don't know if you watched the Gamescom videos but one of them showed that Battier had 3 sig skills while Bosh had 1. So yeah that is true. You couldn't make out the skills but you can see the icons. Lebron and Wade also have 5 in the Gamescom video

Of course, post-95 MJ needs the microwave and floor general as well.

Do y'all think Rose deserves Floor General over Finisher? Rose does make his teammates better but he's a scoring PG. Rose is known for his ability to get to the hole and finish over bigger defenders. Finisher fit his game more then Floor General. 2k needs to fix that

While I do think he makes his teammates better, I agree that Finisher more embodies Rose's game, above any of the sig skills, really.

Nice. I didn't see this, but it makes sense. Battier does a lot of little things that don't always show up in box scores and are hard to capture with ratings (ie, take charges, great defense, hustle, maybe even microwave), while Bosh is steady and skilled, but not in a flashy way. He'll get buckets and hit open shots, but doesn't really do much that can't be captured with decent ratings.

Of the sig skills I've heard of, I'm thinking LeBron's 5 should be:

Chase Down Block
Lock Down Defender
Finisher
Closer
Floor General

(And, for those saying he isn't a lockdown defender, I don't know what basketball you've been watching. He guards 1-5, and his combination of speed, power and athleticism is unmatched in the history of the game. He's one of the main reasons the Heat have had one of the top defenses the last couple years.)

I hope there is a defensive sig skill like a "Defensive Anchor" for players like Dwight/KG/Bill Russell, etc, that either makes the rest of their team better defensively OR gives them a larger bubble that their defense can affect. Players like that have a much larger affect on how the opposing team is able to attack the paint than ratings can capture, as they are able to affect more than just the man they are guarding.

# 239 Thunder Storm @ 09/02/12 02:21 PM
no lock down defender for LeBron ... stop this nonsense.

There is a difference between being strong and agile enough to guard 5 positions and then being able to lock down players.

3rd option, 4th option.. Either way my point still stands.. And his minutes/FGA are closer to RIPs than Dengs
