The game is also so much more sloppy than ever, I love that fact prolly the most. Lots of shots missing the net even wide open ones. sticks in the lanes, alot more deflected stuff and better positional play over all from your cpu teamates.
I'm going to start logging shots on goal per period. Given it is just five minute periods but I feel like shot totals might be high still. But the puck control slider should fix some of that hopefully. But overall I agree. I think there actually are more loose pucks. The poke check seems to be much more effective.

Is there any way to set your default controls to "default"? Before each game I have to switch it from NHL 94 Controls to default. And that doesn't work either, I have to go into control setting once the game starts and switch it again.

Just played two quick games, all star difficulty, normal mode.

I love how sloppy the puck is now. You can actually play positional D and poke the puck away without having players pass or stickhandle through you! (at least so far). If you collapse on net there is little room to get pucks through, as it should be.

I like the skating, although in my short time it seemed a little too easy to outturn the CPU d-men? Not sure if it is more an AI issue or the skating. It seemed a little too easy to get past them. Usually though it seems that the difficulties are easier in the demo vs the final game, at least in my experience.

I do like how when you have to pay attention to which direction players are going when you pass the puck. A player going the wrong way may be open but may not be the right pass. A lot more realistic.

In my very brief experience this plays really, really well and I didn't have any real obvious complaints (well, some goofy goal celebration animations, but that could be a demo issue).

Why am I still getting awful framerate and choppyness? I had it in NHL 12 too. NHL 10 was perfectly fine, all my other games are fine, but these 2 games have been unplayable for me. What gives?

CPU got a Goaltender Interference penalty when I was playing last night, not sure if I've seen that before.

Love the True Broadcast Cam but one main gripe I have with it is I like to play LD position lock but when the puck is around the net I can't see where I'm at.

First impressions from a HOCKEY PLAYER.

I love it. This game, so far, makes the player play like a player. Everything done has a consequence now, even on the dump in. While looking through everyone's first thoughts there was more than one person shouting about the dump-in.

The main grievance being filed is my d-man is slower than the forward on the dump in. Well in hockey terms the forward is coming into the zone full speed when the puck is dumped. The D-man who is covering said forward or the puck has to recognize the dump in and then transition......Heads just exploded, WTH is a transition is what I can hear being yelled.

The new skating engine allows the player to cross over his legs in turns which is called a cross over. When a player does a cross over he loses mobility because his legs are crossed. For the defense to go from backward to forward they have to pivot and crossover, a move any player can do but with different foot speed.

On a dump in on the old game one could just swing in a circle. On this one as is with the demo, now to transition your D-man needs space and time and this allows for the new pivot and retrieval of the dump in.

So bottom line back off your strategies and play the dump game if your D is getting beat the new game is pretty good. Oh and if stickhandling seems a bit different or maybe shooting try it with your feet planted its a whole other world.

Love this demo game should be good.

Playing on PS3, but I doubt it really matters. Going to go troubleshoot.

Overall, I am extremely impressed through the first ten or so games that I have played. The one thing that has happened that I didn't really like came in the last game I played. The Devils came in on a 2-on-1 and Elias ripped a quick shot. Just before he shot, Kovalchuk ran into Quick causing him to not even attempt to make a save. I am hoping that this was just a missed call because the penalty slider was not high enough and it does not become a constant problem.

Aside from that one occurrence though, I am loving the new skating engine and the way that guys feel like they actually have some weight and momentum. The poke check and pass interceptions also feel a lot more natural and common making for a much looser game.

Hmm. Well, I hope this isn't the new cheese, but I was messing around in Free Skate and scored 3 straight goals just by skating backwards from center ice straight at the goalie. I did a simple LR or RL deke and goal....

Supposedly that has already been pointed out today to the devs and they will have that fixed in the first tuner set that goes live on launch day

Ahh, thanks. Sorry if it was posted. I didn't see it while skimming the 13 pages.

Got three more games in and here are some shot totals.

Game 1
User: 7 shots, 1 goal
CPU: 9 shots, 0 goals

Game 2
User: 4 shots, 0 goals
CPU: 10 shots, 2 goals

Game 3
User: 7 shots, 1 goal
CPU 4 shots, 0 goals

As I've played it a bit more I do feel that although the game does have more loose pucks, something will have to be done about shot totals. I like to play on 12-14 minute periods and with these numbers and everything I've seen so far I'd have shot totals on average around 50 every game, which is not something I want.

I think there are a few key sliders, which have been mentioned before that can make all the difference.

1) Pass reception: If we can make it so that pucks bounce off blades at a more realistic rate, that should help reduce shot totals.
2) Pass accuracy: The more errant passes there are, the fewer shots there will be.
3) Puck control: The easier players lose control of the puck, which is already better on default than last year, the more loose pucks and less shots.
4) Game speed: I may end up lowering this a notch or two as the game is still pretty quick and there's just too much open ice. The last three games I played I had a lot of up-and-down action. Which is fun every once in a while but shouldn't be the norm.

Just played it. Love the feel of it. It's rare I change my decision about purchasing a game based on the demo, this game might have just done that.

I really hope you're right... This has been THE concern regarding this game for the last several years, and the demo shows no improvement. Again, before I get crucified by a certain person here, I recognize no sliders can be touched. But I'm seeing much of the same stuff from prior years in this demo that concerns me, most notably the items you noted, along with the stupid teammate AI that's clear.

I hope whoever from EA checks in here really takes our thoughts to heart. Your list is SOLID, and we also have some great input here that should be strongly considered.

Absolutely digging this demo. I havent played NHL series for a few years, but this demo sold me. True Broadcast camera IMO is an awesome view.

Time to get reorientated to all the controls.

# 118 hurdinator @ 08/21/12 08:36 PM
Looks promising.

I've not played this series since 2010 so have definately noticed a big leap in presentation quality. The new modes are a great addition and I cant wait to GM the Avalanche.

Demo shows the true broadcast camera to be a great development. I'm not sure of its value when controlling players on the ice though. Definately a good view if you are going the pure coaching approach.

The ice looks great and you dont get the over contrast of uniforms loosing colours and shades from the blinding white like in previous editions.

Can/how do you do the spin moves and all those other fun moves that you use to use the L trigger for?

# 120 canucksss @ 08/21/12 09:00 PM
i havent played yet as home...but quick question.. do you line change advantage like that in nhl 11? meaning you can see which lines the away team going to play so you can match the line?
