Played a couple games before work this morning. I have not been an avid NHL gamer for a long time, but this release has piqued my interest.

1. Didn't like the commentary (same old)
2. Liked the skating. I also noticed it makes a defensive difference. I couldn't just chase people around, had to position well.
3. HATED the teamates AI! Why don't they go for loose pucks??

I enjoyed it! Definitely going to buy it it, but I REALLY REALLY hope they fix up some teammate AI stuff before release.

Players are actually faster than other players and the hustle button actually has a function in this game. This years NHL is going to be sick.

Does the demo allow for 2 player local vs. ?

The demo is a great time for us to discover all of these things, and we'll be able to make changes on going as we lead up to the release.
This is great to hear

Now if you could remove the bubble from around the goalies net... (at least in hardcore mode)

Loving it so far, I refuse to read through these types of threads because reading enough negative about one thing you start to believe it. It's an awesome game and more strategic than any NHL before it.

I'm really enjoying the demo...a lot!

Absolutely love the skating physic. Seems to be just what we were told. The players having to gather themselves after stopping feels great. The totally unrealistic turns of the past are gone! Very pleased with the skating. Well worth the wait.

With the additional AI help, I was able to at least sorta hold my own on Superstar hardcore. For me anyway...it was the battle in all three zones I've been hoping for. Lots of center ice play, turnovers, and certainly the best looking hitting of the series. And yep, the puck does seem more loose than before. Also liking so far what I've seen outta the goalie animations. Overall...the best hockey game I've personally played. Can't wait for the retail game!

This is based on Xbox demo.

Starters, only one period. This is lame since even Madden has a full game demo this year. Did not sit well with me.

Skating and puck handling is more realistic this year. I even tired the hardcore settings for the heck of it. And I do have to say I found this one more enjoyable.

Fighting changed? Do not know since I was not able to get a fight going in the demo. Goodness I hoped fighting engine has changed. Rock'em sock'em Robot fights are just so dated in the NHL games.

Sliders in demo? Nope. But once again . . . EVEN Madden had sliders in demo.

Skating seems little more fluid this year and can not shot accurate off the acceleration which is nice. Hope this helps with the glitching that has plagued EASL since its begining. Glitching is really what keeps EASL from being an incredible and rewarding feature for NHL.

My hopes are the new features added will help curb the glitching and this years title will be playable and enjoyable from start to finish.

Well point out yet again, and this concerns me like they may be hiding some fault in game. There is NO full game demo.

Even Madden had a full game demo this year. Concerns me.

The game is great, for some reason ps3 version looks blurry. Is this happening on 360 as well, or just ps3.

You could try the NHL moments mode. It keeps going until you score. I got three periods out of it during one play through.

I didn't notice any blurriness on the 360 version.

No, you can change the difficulty in the "my NHL 13" and it carries over. I'm pretty sure it did anyway.

Two areas that have always needed some improvement and which seem apparent in the demo are:

- the AI taking hardly any penalties...granted we can't tweak the sliders in the demo but watching AI v AI I'm hardly seeing any penalties, which is a concern (all-star, hardcore)....over about 25 games I've seen approx 5 penalties.

- Again, fighting, nothing in AI v AI mode - again I appreciate the slider cannot be adjusted but this hasn't existed in this mode for the past 3 iterations of the NHL series.

Whilst I appreciate the sliders can always be "upped" in the retail version, I thought I'd post this here so that maybe EA can look into tuning these areas perhaps prior to the retail version hitting the shelves - as per EA_Noun's suggestion earlier.

On the plus side:
Love the new broadcast angle
Game speed seems realistic
Impressive goalie animations

Thanks

I've only played three games so far. Two on All-Star and one on Superstar. The first game/period I outscored the Devils 2-0 and the second game neither me nor the computer scored. I bumped the game up to Superstar and outscored the Devils once again 2-0.

Now, I've only played it three times and maybe this year Superstar doesn't feel as though the CPU has stat boosts against you (which they really didn't in NHL 12). I had a breakaway on Superstar, which was rare on NHL 12 and I beat the CPU to a number of loose pucks.

I'm wondering with the improved AI this year if EA made it so playing on higher difficulty levels actually makes the CPU smarter. If that's the case I'll be in video game hockey heaven.

Other impressions:

Graphically, the game looks awesome. I'm impressed to say the least.

The new skating engine, I love it! While I do see how some people could complain about the magnetic puck, I don't see it being very bad.

The speed of the game feels more realistic this year, too.

But the main thing I wanted to test on the demo was the difference between All-Star and Superstar mode. For those that are playing on Superstar, what kind of games are you seeing? Does the CPU seem to play smarter or is it just my imagination?

I tested this. It is still locked at Pro no matter what you set as your difficulty.

I love hearing that clank noise as the puck hits the boards/glass.

Yep RealmK....quite a few shots that are going wide. And seeing quite a few being blocked as well.

The only thing I've found that really suxs so far is...the wait for the retail game!
