Everyone is wondering the same thing, it's just some have immediately looked at this as a negative instead of waiting to see the end product, the game is weeks away 2k is giving a first hand look to a select few, news about the gameplay will come soon enough.

I wish I didn't love basketball at all. I hate going through the bullsh*t with 2k. This is not the biggest news in 2ksports history. A effing soundtrack? APF2K8 and Jordan were bigger announcements than this crap. I understand there is more that is involved with the music but so what! It still isn't big news at all.

I also understand there will be celebs in the crowd this year. That would have been bigger news than this. You guys never fail to disappoint me. I love basketball so I have no choice but to buy this sh*t because WE ALL KNOW NBA LIVE IS GARBAGE AS F***! Live will not make a glorious comeback and they even know it themselves. It's false hope but it is all we have because sadly without the comp we see how 2k handles their product.

I am effing done with checking for 2k news.

My bad man.

Anyway, I just totally lost faith in 2K after this. Right there, I'am done with it. Only gameplay footage and people's opinion on the game will get me to buy it.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm somehow hoping substance prevailed over style. From the surface though (which is all we can go off of at the moment since no further information was released alongside) it sort of feels like something modern day ESPN might do (i.e. taking a big star from the entertainment world and attempting to fuse them into the sports world in a strange fashion in hopes of providing what they think the people want).

I just saw the trailer as a commercial.

I can see/hope that the Jay-Z involvement has impact on multiple aspects of the game. But, I see this a marketing ploy to attract more gamers to this game.

I'm actually pretty excited. I don't see what the fuss is all about. It's a very good soundtrack IMO and as has already been said, there's more to it than just that. I mean geez! I like expressing my displeasure with something as much as the next man but we all know that this is just the beginning of things to come....this IS 2K. Can we just hold our judgement for when there is something to actually be "disappointed" about?

I share alot of the sentiments on here and I feel this announcement is pretty disappointing. It certainly has great marketing potential and will boost the visibility and sales of NBA 2K13. Like others have already said, it's a pretty big deal for the folks at 2K. They NEED to make these kind of moves to stay fresh and cover the fact that incremental improvements and changes to the product are the only things that change from year to year. And they need to provide these kinds of flashy announcements to justify charging full price for what is essentially an updated roster and some minor gameplay tweaks and improvements.

To be honest I've gone from MUST purchase in 2K10, to a possibly purchase in 2K12 and now I'm not sure if I'll even give 2K13 a try.

I really wonder if 2K sports understood that if they announced a return of College Hoops, at this point in time, with no other competition in the basketball space and their status at this height, they would have been able to sell 2 products (NBA and College Hoops) instead of just one (NBA only).

Instead we get Jay-Z and his soundtrack. Oh and some other 'improvements' we don't even know yet. I can't wait. Unless Jay-Z is a master coder and has developed College Hoops 2K13 on his own as his additional input, then it can't be too great.

I'm guessing the further improvement (to the look at feel of the game) will be in the form of cutscenes or some type of commentary addition. I feel him trying to improvement gameplay would be like Homer Simpson designing a family car.

Well...I can't say I'm surprised. I pretty much assumed this since the trailer leaked before. Leave it to the hype machine that is 2K to completely overdo it and leave everyone disappointed.

As long as it isnt doesnt go overboard with the changes to the menu screens, I am good. As long as it is quick to scroll the menus and it doesnt look terrible, I have no problem with this.

They said most of his involvement is off the court. I am interested to see what his impact is. I do believe that this is more than a soundtrack. He is a part owner, is a big bball fan, and does see the game from the sideline alot.

Woo hooo, 2k big announcement...it's going to be NFL 2k13 returning or College Hoops 2k13...

Wait!!! What??? Jay-Z Executive, new soundtrack with what?

I'm getting too old for this s...!

I think the backlash isn't so much about the soundtrack itself, but more in response to this line from 2K's VP of Marketing Jason Argent in articles released over a month ago:
Quote:
"We have one of the biggest announcements ever, if not the biggest ever in the history of the 2K Sports franchise ever coming in a couple of weeks. I think you'll be surprised." http://www.jobsnhire.com/articles/22...yers-cover.htm
So, had the soundtrack news trickled out on its own, I'm betting the overwhelming response would have been positive. Instead, folks clamoring for ground-breaking news on par with the greatest announcements in 2K history (if not the biggest) really set themselves up to be let down (with some assistance from 2K marketing).

Yep, all we can do now at this point is guess but from the information provided, the guesses aren't particularly pretty. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised with the manner which Jay-Z was able to contribute. Unfortunately, I can't stop thinking it's going to be more along the lines of, "With his wealth of knowledge both on the court and in the off-court limelight, hip-hop mogul and worldwide icon Jay-Z aka Hova was able to bring his personal flavor and style to NBA 2K13 firsthand. J-to-the-Izzo's unprecedented wealth of street savvy and stylistic knowledge will be a welcomed addition to the 2012 #1 best selling NBA video game."

I see Jay-Z directed game introductions in our future.

Announcing Jay Z is the executive producer.....
-I would have said...."Oh....that is cool. I wonder what that means for the game."

Announcing Jay Z after hyping it as te biggest announcement in 2k History....
-I say "I seriously just wasted allot of time following these threads. Is Ronnie just a mega J fan and overly excited to run with the cool kids? It is nowhere near the hype and I feel like we were played with. If there isn't something else to announce that is either game related, classic team related, or new mode/mode enhancement related....I may save my 60 for next year....seriously."

This is the BIGGEST ANNOUNCEMENT IN 2K SPORTS HISTORY and it really isn't even about the game? Or any game? Just music? I can't explain how I reacted in words but this is pretty much it:
