Madden NFL 13 News Post

Because I have been asked about this via Twitter and email so often, I wanted to make sure people were aware.

Justin Dewiel, Community Manager for EA Sports, just confirmed via Twitter (just follow the timeline), if you coach a team, you can no longer play other games on the schedule, only the game(s) on your own schedule.

For example. Rgiles asked if he could coach the Cowboys in CCM, but play the Patriots vs. Browns game.

Justin stated that it is not possible, because CCM is based around you and your character (coach or player).

Absolutely not, because no one is forcing you to pay for it.

We're judging it by what we're told isn't in it.

I was really exited for CC during E3 but now I'm like what were they thinking?! I just want my good old franchise back. Tiburon why do you have to put a poison pill into everything

Sucks for those that play other games in the franchise, but I only stick to my team anyways, so it doesn't bother me any. Still sucks though.

EA could've avoided most of this by having offline franchise be the starting point and using something like the old locker system for online franchises to get them to be one mode. That would also give the online commishes the ability to edit anything, sim games if needed, allow substitute's to play for certain owners, etc.

On the plus side, Madden 14 should be a great year with a full connected careers mode, improved line play and a more polished RTP system. Then the new systems come out and we start over again.

I'm not the biggest Madden fan, so it wouldn't normally behoove me to actually get involved in this discussion, but I am a sports fans and I really cannot understand how it's 2012 and companies are still - STILL - removing full control of teams.

We should be beyond this issue at this point. We should be asking for other things. Instead we're still having to ask for such a simple thing that every fan either wants or can understand the reason why someone wants. There's no strong argument for why full control should not be featured in a game.

The go-to argument that it removes realism is mostly laughable considering we are playing a video game. Realism is subjective, anyway. My realism is different than your realism. That's why we have sliders. If someone feels that they should only control one team, let them choose to take that path. If someone wants to coach one team and still play other games, let them take that path. If someone wants to coach one team and play the other 7 games in the schedule and purposely make certain teams lose so they can win the division and the Super Bowl, let them take that path.

Inexcusable. Really can't believe we're still on this topic of full control. Just can't.

So, if I'm reading this right, then that means that my kids and I can't play a Franchise together, since you can now only control one team? I guess if that's true, then I'm going to stick with 12 another year whether I want to or not.

Another feature I don't use. But this is still ridiculous. What's next? Your starting QB goes down with an injury and your team can't throw the ball until he returns. This game is going to require some serious patching. It's just too bad that, given Tiburon's track record, that patch will be called Madden '14.

I never do this, but just from being around here at OS t I know there are TONS of players who do.

Just...wow.

That may send these forums off the deep end.
Lord, help EA if it isn't.

Come on, let's not start this. Stay on topic.

I don't think it ridiculous at all. If he is not happy with the features that were removed that he liked then he simply shouldn't buy it. No one is making him "have to pay" for anything. How many of these guys that complain about it still go out and buy it and come back here and cry and moan about how bad it is! You knew going in what features/modes were left out! Then you have no one to blame but yourself!

Of course you don't have to buy something to have an opinion on it, No one has bought this game yet and how many people here have formed opinions already?

Perhaps, but how many gamers play or control more than 1 team in an offline franchise any way? That's not a rhetorical question; it's real. I'm curious as to how many offline gamers this will affect.

My guess - more than I think.

Why is there never any modest news? It's either one extreme or the other.

# 58 Anaxamander @ 06/12/12 06:37 PM
This is horrible news for guys like me who like to play various games on the schedule.

I really can't believe this. Is regular franchise going to be removed?

# 59 DaCarver13 @ 06/12/12 06:38 PM
Seems like a lot of whining and bickering. They have added so much to Madden 13 and yet some people will never be happy. I truly "can't wait" for Madden 13. I can appreciate what they have done and I will definitely be buying Madden 13 and enjoying all of the new features! The things some of you are complaining about are minor details that we can do without. If you are playing with a team, why would you want to leave your team and play with another? I really don't see the big deal. If you want to play with multiple teams then start multiple franchises... ding ding!

So...if our team happen to suck and we miss the playoffs...we can't play or watch any of the playoff games? We'd have to sim it?

That's...that's not good news. Ugh. I'll have to tell my uncle he needs to stay away from the game since he doesn't have xbox live.

Here's a list of thing people without Xbox Live won't get:

Updated rosters in any form (USB trick won't work any more)
The ability to edit rosters
The ability to play with more than one team
The ability to play or watch a CPU vs CPU game in CC
Oh, and patches, but they couldn't get that in the first place

EA basically just told him:
Yeah I know no one cares but you CAN still user control any team you want as long as it's outside of CC (eg, play now). While I'm not happy that these changes are being made, to me they are relatively small. Even though I did use edit rosters a lot, if the new rating progression system works like it's supposed to that won't be as much of a problem. I'd like to play the mode before I judge it.
