Madden NFL 13 News Post

Because I have been asked about this via Twitter and email so often, I wanted to make sure people were aware.

Justin Dewiel, Community Manager for EA Sports, just confirmed via Twitter (just follow the timeline), if you coach a team, you can no longer play other games on the schedule, only the game(s) on your own schedule.

For example. Rgiles asked if he could coach the Cowboys in CCM, but play the Patriots vs. Browns game.

Justin stated that it is not possible, because CCM is based around you and your character (coach or player).

I can't believe people aren't getting it why it is not included so far... It's an annual game which really limits the time the developers have to work on it. Add on to that the fact that they have a revamped engine for gameplay to allow for RTP. Now add on to that, the implementation of a brand new mode (CCM) that has to be completely recoded... Um, duh! Things aren't going to make the cut. That's just the nature of it. Whether you like it or not, thats the way it is. Don't like it, don't buy it... Some of you are making this out to be the end of the world or something and to you I say get some perspective! Geez... Be thankful for what you do get and that you do have the freedom to purchase or not purchase this game.

It's all tied into the Online Pass. By doing what they are doing with CC, EA is strong-arming consumers into buying the product either brand new or buying the $10 Online Pass if you go the used route. There's no workaround to getting updated rosters or patches going forward, it seems.

EA is not the only company that utilizes an Online Pass, and ultimately it's still always your decision whether to buy the product or not.

For those that don't understand what the gripe is....Let's say you live in Cincinnnati. The Bengals are on local TV. You can watch them every Sunday. Maybe you have no problem with that...
But believe it or not... Some of us like the NFL package on our Direct TV. Maybe we like being able to switch over from the Bengals-Browns snooze fest to the Packers Steelers game.
Or maybe, we like being able to watch "The Redzone" on the NFL Network and see ALL The games as they happen! Many of us are willing to pay the extra money to be allowed to enjoy those options.
What Madden has just declared is the equivelent of the NFL saying that there will no longer be Direct TV feeds or the NFL Network with The Red Zone. And the only games you'd be allowed to watch is your specific local team. No more second games, no more other network, no more Monday Nights, No more Sunday Nights, No more Playoffs and no more Super Bowls, unless of course YOUR team gets there once every twenty years like most of us.

Madden sure does know how to kill excitement. I haven't bought Madden since Madden 10, haven't played Madden for more than 2 weeks since Madden 07 or 08 i think. I was really excited for this year after seeing what they were doing until this past week where they basically let me know this game is not for me.

I only play offline. I only play dynasty/association/franchise modes. I love to edit equipment. I love to control multiple teams and play games of teams i don't even control.

Basically everything i enjoy doing has been removed from the game.
Yeah, talk about letting the wind out of your sails. My goodness, I really don't get what EA is thinking by eliminating all of the options previous games had. The head-scratcher to me is that they were touting roster editing LAST YEAR and now ... gone?

I only control 1 team in Franchise Mode, so playing any game on the schedule isn't a huge deal for me, but it was always comforting to know the option was there if I wanted it. Why take something like that out?

Let the gamers play the game HOW THEY WANT TO PLAY IT. STOP FORCING EVERYONE TO PLAY A CERTAIN WAY.

Infinity Engine and CC sounded so good a week ago. I think the IE will bring some good things to the table but man, CC has really soured me on this game, to the point where I'll likely just stick with Madden 12, or maybe go all the way back to Madden 10, and just play that.

Is it really that difficult to give your consumers options, EA? And, why are you hell bent on ruining modes for the OFFLINE GAMER?

It's a shame, really, but I don't like where all of this is headed as we enter the next generation of consoles.

You're missing the point. It's another case of revamping a feature to remove others.

It's one step forward, two steps back.

You can't tell people you're combining three modes (franchise, coach mode, and player mode) and then remove features that were mainstays of each individual feature.

That would be like me introducing the first flying car and not including power brakes and a passenger seat.

I think the shift to more off an online career focus and the addition of XP scream tons of DLC to me that's their goal.

Not to anger some of you any more but wow I'm surprised that not being able to watch CPU vs CPU or playing another team's games is the no buy limit to some of you.

I can't believe you just said the bolded above. I can't believe it lol!!!!

Going by you're theory, Why in the hell would you recode something and excluded 3 major features that fans have been using since the Sega genesis,Super nintendo, playstation, gamecube, xbox, playstation 2, and xbox days? "Things" aren't going to make the cut? Those "things" you say are the main reason some of the Madden fans purchase the game each and every year regardless if the gameplay is tight or trash. Basically you are saying you're satisfied with them adding twitter feeds over editing players, equipment, and playing other games?

Thanks for the laugh.

Done & Done! But only one of these 2 games has the ability to take control of the AI to prevent this from happening
But, to be fair, only one of these games has an engaging career mode for a pick-up-and-play gamer.

Edit...totally forgot about RTTS so make that franchise mode not career mode

Give it some time to sink in. People DO NOT LIKE change. A lot of these folks will soften up by August.

I can't fathom why people ask or even want that either in madden or NHL. Makes no sense to me.
Realm, I'm a little surprised at this post from you, to be honest. You come across as well-spoken in the NHL forums, but this is very snide remark and short-sighted.

While this news may have no affect on how you play your CC, you've got to know that not everyone plays the game the same way you do. There's nothing wrong with that. If people want to try and have certain teams lose, that's their business because it's their game.

If people (like me), want to watch Playoff or Super Bowl games their team isn't involved in via CPU-CPU mode, what's the harm in that?

If people want to edit their rosters and have all their players be rated a 99, go for it! If others want to really dive in to the ratings and provide TRUE PLAYER SEPARATION (like we see Matt do in the NHL forums and Gotmadskillzson and Playmakers do for Madden/NCAA), that's a benefit to a larger community and helps with the enjoyment of the game.

I mean, it really makes no sense why EA is ripping the guts out of the offline options and forcing everyone to play the game the same way.

We all have different ideas and ways of playing our Career/Franchise Modes. While something may work for you, it may not work for me. Options are a vital component of a successful sports game and by eliminating those options, EA is making it awfully hard to get behind its product because not everyone is going to happy with what was taken out of what was supposed to be their game.

I know what you're saying BUT
It's not your game, Its EA's. You have the choice of buying it or not to make it "your" game. If it doesn't suit you dont buy it.

Now if you get it and it doesn't do something its supposed to, then complain.
Everyone knows going in what it will and will not do so if people want to make a statement, stop buying games that don't do what you want.

For me I'm looking at it as maybe they can get better coach/team management etc.. AI going this route.
We'll see.
Again I'm not saying this is a good way to release the game and I'm sorry for those that want the added control.
I'm hopefull future versions add more control but I'm giving this "new" group the benefit of the doubt and am excited how Madden with grow now with the CC mode.

My point was EA will let people buy stuff like extra XP DLC and other enhancements over Xbox live we kinda saw some of this in madden 10-11 where you could keep you're player from retiring maxing out potential etc. I'm not sure why that would be a conspiracy theory seeing as EA has done it before.

Yep, it has. But, with the way CC is set up, if you buy the game used and don't buy Online Pass, you're forced to play with the default roster. So, if you want an updated roster to play CC, you're going to have to pay the $10 to get that. It's why a lot of people were upset that roster editing has been removed from career mode. You can edit, but the roster is only good for Play Now.

That doesn't do the people that bought used and don't want to pay $10 to get the Online Code any good. So, again, it's a way for EA to bring in extra dollars that they typically lose in used game sales by creating a mode that's so heavily online-based that the old workarounds of buying used and avoiding the $10 extra charge no longer apply.

Not this year they won't. They've already stated that.

I don't mind change - it's inevitable.

That doesn't mean I should dance with joy if that change brings a short-term negative event.

There's a difference in being "anti-change" and just expressing disappointment.

Somewhere, Pared is sitting back laughing at all of us while he gladly passes on EA's football games for another year and happily continues along in his MLB The Show New York Mets franchise.
