NBA Live 13 News Post

I recently got the chance to see NBA Live 13 in action and while the results weren't the greatest to be sure, there were some helpful tidbits of information you could gather from my initial viewing. The NBA Live 13 team showed us an early pre-alpha version of the game, which according to the Developers, was 60% complete -- so it was a quite early version of the game which probably won't represent the final product given the games early build.

I smell a game delay.

Well, it sounds like the fact that they only had a years worth of work done is rearing its ugly head. This game needed EVERY second of that delay to be used for development time.

Sadly these guys only had one year according to that interview so I'm not too interested in this one anymore. From the preview it sounded like Live 10.5 which is cool just a few years too late.

I'm usually more neutral when it comes to bball games but EA really disappointed me after reading this one.

@ 2 years to still be having animation problems.

Looks like the devs who were working on Live 13 were to busy paying attention to what was going on with the Madden team to have dropped the ball like this.

Man, they had 2 years and a great foundation with Live 10. They will never catch a break here on OS.

Im sorry sir... but they had extra dev time.. .if they screwed that up in anyway at all, they'll be lambasted

Right now, people don't believe in EA basketball, and nobody created that but EA... and rightfully so, you earn respect and trust

Right now, I wouldnt look for too many positive onlookers, especially with reading something like this

2 years is enough time to make a good game man. If its not this bad, so be it and they'll get credit for whats right, but there are no more excuses...

Don't forget why

Wow that was a letdown to read. Damn, i was hoping for something decent to get my basketball fix in this year. The last hope is maybe being able to slow the speed down to create some sort of tolerance. Makes you wonder what they were doing in the 2 year window. Wish we could get a mlb the show type experience in a basketball product in the next generation of consoles.

Obviously synergy didnt mean a whole lot either because of the use of it, and the fact that I had to tweak Live 10 to stop what should've been normal basketball 101 stuff, I hope that license to use synergy doesn't make them lazy on the ratings front.

Derek Fisher should not have an 85 defensive recovery rating

Disappointed with 2k13 so far, looks 99% like last year's game, from this preview, Live 13 don't sound too promising either, I still have hopes for EA though.

Didn't realize my post went through, dang computer. Hard8times gonna have a field day with the demo....

What a let down...I actually had hope that they'd get it right this time around...i'm really sad right now.

Owch. Im slightly surprised considering they had so much time to develop this game but I guess it falls in line with what we've seen from Live. Really disappointed with what I've seen from both basketball camps, hopefully these next few months prove otherwise when the final builds come around. Might be a no NBA game year for me...

Lol! I understand what you mean there but don't worry too much about that. We are still a few months out and come OCT we'll see a completely different looking game.

Can't say the same about Live though because the basis of their whole game is from past Lives. Which is full of odd looking animations with a FEW nice looking ones lol

# 33 Dantecamp21 @ 06/05/12 04:02 PM
Animations...the sore topic of the whole deal once again.

Actually, the animation tool set for EA Tiburon isn't the greatest out there (see past Maddens). EA Canada at least has FIFA under its wing to brag about.

Hopefully the game will come a long way until its release but right now...it's not looking good.

Yikes. Steve, thanks for the fair and critical preview.

I don't get why EA wasted a year going through Elite and trying to find salvageable pieces from that game instead of using the 2 years to either completely start over, or improve upon Live 10.

I had my hopes up for this game, but it doesn't sound good right now.

# 35 TalenT @ 06/05/12 04:02 PM
Why does this sound familiar?? Oh! Right. NBA Elite.

# 36 Goffs @ 06/05/12 04:08 PM
oh boy that demo of Live 13 better be solid...one glitch and it goes viral on YouTube then we are looking at another cancellation lol

still might get it for ps3 since my sports titles are lacking...

Synergy, like anything other stat metric, shouldn't be the end all-be all for ratings - esp on defense. Many things that require context are left out - i.e. sefolosha's defense got worse over the last week according to Synergy, but he was switched to guard Parker which is a more difficult assignment than a normal wing he has to guard.

Utlimately for Live / 2k for me it looks like it'll be a catch 22:

If you want great gameplay, but horrible online experience (dropped games, repeated server outages, lack of features, lack of control) - 2k13

If you want great online experience, but horrible gameplay (see OP) - Live 13

I really hope sooner or later they incorporate the RTP similar to what you've seen in Madden and Fifa

# 40 jersez @ 06/05/12 04:18 PM
My problem with this is its been two years, why is the game this buggy when you've been developing it for two years? I mean why didn't you just release elite and elite 12 if you couldn't fix the game. I don't want to hear "its a early build", they were givin so much time and this is what they present is pathetic.
