MLB 13 The Show News Post

With the MLB 2K series all but confirmed to be dead, Kotaku's Owen Good has posted an article on what MLB 13 The Show must do to keep the fans of baseball gaming happy. It should be interesting, considering a simulation baseball game for the 360 doesn't look very likely.

Quote:
Your long slog through your career in Road to the Show makes the game's threadbare commentary painfully apparent. I think the world of Matt Vasgersian but he is shackled to an outdated commentary engine given to repetition and dead air. Dave Campbell's dialogue library is really showing its age, and a majority of his work sounds like Dave Campbell playing Dave Campbell. Eric Karros should be thanked for his service and sent home. The Show has world class visuals and a smooth, if minimalist, broadcast presentation. The commentary supporting it has not pulled its weight in years.

In your opinion, what does MLB 13 The Show need to do next year to satisfy your baseball gaming needs?

Improving scouting tools. The game lacks scouting of teams you play.

To me priority is having finally 2 versions of those stadiums with a closing roof. No need to have it closing and opening during a game.

It bothers me to no end to see the bullpen guys in the dugout during the game. Obviously I don't mean the bullpen guys who pitched in the game and were taken out; the bullpen guys who haven't pitched yet I'm referring to when the camera takes a cut scene into the dugout.

And commentary/stat overlays/presentation in general. Camera angles are great but need 2k type presentation.

-create a stadium
-create an expansion franchise, where u build a stadium design unis etc and draft your team for offline play, this is different from diamond dynasty
-more throwback uniforms
-umpire reports for strike zones
-make the cpu balk once in awhile. haven't seen it in over 300 games
-ability to relocate franchise and re design uniforms stadium (ties in with above)
-more classic stadiums available
-wear proper uniforms for all star game not generic batting practice jerseys

Haven't read through the whole thread, but as a player who is constantly messing with the rosters I hope we can get an edit system similar to what the 2k series had. L/R splits for pitchers and a defensive value attached to EACH position for one player.

Change the Commentators, get some good ones who I can actually stand.

In RTTS make it so you can block trades, or just an option at the beginning similiar to franchise, where you can turn all trades off

Revamp defensive controls.
Since the High Heat days where I could throw the ball around the horn after making an out, I just haven't felt connected to playing defense in a baseball video game. Getting jumps on balls in the outfield, better footwork that gets you to the ball, rounding out a groundball or going to the backhand. I'm not sure how to make defense more interactive, but it's stale. And I want it to feel as exhilerating as a 10 pitch at bat does.

Roster Vault that works in Franchise.
When the draft rolls around, I get sad that I can't upload all the great created players from the draft into my franchise. I want the Sox to have their 2 arms from Florida. The Pads to have their new HS shortstop. Etc. etc. MLB the Show gives you more options than any other franchise, and incorporating this would be the icing on the cake.

More Weather
True rainouts in franchise. Dropped fly balls in right field at Fenway because of glaring sun rays. Better rain variety in games, with affects on the game. This would be really, really cool.

More Minor League Parks
McCoy Stadium so we can play at "mini Fenway" if you're a AA Sox prospect in Portland. And others, please

Phiten necklaces
I know, I know. But when the game makes every player look so authentic, adding in these stupid things would make it all the more real to life. Lester gets his camo combo, all team colors, etc.

More Hair options for created players
Dreads, long hair, more modern haircuts ... hair is still very limited with created players.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but after playing about 100 games so far the frequency of rally killing / inning ending double plays (for both HUM and CPU) are not only frustrating, but kind of predictable...

Other than that, very solid gameplay IMHO...

Yeah. My franchise team has over $1.5 Billion and I'd really like to have something to spend it on.

This would also bring franchise mode up to feature parity with the MVP Baseball games on the GameCube, which would be nice.

I'd also really appreciate it if SCEA could get the MLBPA to allow accurate player salaries to start the franchise mode.

Roster Control - The ability to scroll through sp,rp,cp,c...etc to trade and release players outside of game modes. Edit aplayers contract years and amount. Sign players to MLB,AAA,AA,A contracts. Edit a players potential.

Edit Player - Asign a player a number and it stick regardless if number is already asigned to another player, Asian faces to choose from, more hair options(long and dreads), the modern stirrup socks need to be added to socks selection, all three cleats need to be fixed so the shoe lace or tongue color doesn't bleed throughout the entire cleat, ruining it, light brown glove color needs to be more of a orange color.

RTTS - A list of ten teams the CPU can trade you to !

Franchise - Bring back when you redo your field, you can choose which design on the field you would like, the ability to customize ad signs in the stadiums.

General - Cubs cleats need to be fixed to default blue, Dodgers toe on their cleat needs to be fixed to default blue, Mets new Catcher helmet needs to be blue and their default color on catching equipment and wrist bands need to be changed to default blue on some uniform selections.

yes, yes, and yes. even choosing from a few generic stadiums would be fine with me when creating a new team. properly drafting a new team would be amazing too.

Please make franchise more fun. It is the most barebones career mode I have played in any game dating back to 2004.

Make scouting more in depth than a couple of useless letters. Place more A's and B's in the draft so the best players in a non-OSFM draft aren't all in their mid-30s. Speed should not be improved but velocity should progress over the course of a prospect's career. 75% of newly drafted pitchers are soft-tossers.

Trade logic can be better. I shouldn't be able to trade a 25 year old reliever with D potential for Jurickson Profar. MVP Baseball 2004 had perfectly fine trade logic.

Free Agency is a very boring process. All you do is make an offer better than the others and sim with very little feedback. I understand you shouldn't be able to sign every free agent you want but it's a little unfair that the the guy will be most interested in your offer, you sim a day, and he chooses another team. NHL 2K8 set the bar for negotiations.

Morale should carry greater weight.

More statistics should be implemented and recorded.

I should be able to see box scores of playoff games.

I skipped over a few pages, so sorry if I missed it.

In the actual gameplay, unless im completely missing something, there really needs to be a way to put your pinch hitter into the on deck circle, instead of always having the pitcher come to the plate to hit, then replace him.

It would add a little bit more commentary also, with the announcers talking about so and so on deck, what will the opposing manager do, etc.

umm? keep doing what your doing! if you could get the mlb today like 2k has for match ups that would be sweet.maybe star spangled banner before game? on deck PH was mentioned. but to say what needs to be done to grab my interest?....This game is awesome as is for me! but add a few little more things only makes it better

A lot of things have been mentioned but I believe the two things that should be addressed is franchise mode and the atmosphere of the games.

Franchise mode needs improved trade logic, free agent signings, and franchise goals and strategies (small market vs. big market, etc.).

I think crowd reaction is pretty poor and can sometimes take away from the big moments of the game. The crowd often has late reactions and often doesn't show enough enthusiasm over big moments. An improved crowd could make game winning hits, big late inning strikeouts, one run games etc. that much more rewarding.

1) Change the colour of either the #2 or #4 pitch. Can't see on TV.

2) Show the Timing and Contact of CPU's batters

thanks.

Make the minor league and major league spring training parks to be more like the actual parks. ie Coca Cola park for the Iron Pigs

Online- Improve the lag, it is impossible to get more than 2 runs a game because of all the lag between when the pitch is thrown/when it reaches the batter.

Commentary- Change the commentators, they are as dull and boring as vin scully, get the 2k commentators, they are brilliant. Make it so it actually feels like a broadcast and theres never any silence, make it so theres actually conversations between them and that they talk in detail about the hitter and the pitcher. The only good thing about 2K is its commentary, and that is the show's biggest weakness.

RTTS- Something that can turn off trades, and stop the rule that you get benched for stealing a base, last time I looked josh hamilton doesnt get benched for stealing.

Updates- when the game adds new players, upload their picture as well, and make their faces a lot better also.

I'd like to see improved Fantasy Draft logic for Franchise based on age and potential, and not just overall rating. The draft for rounds 31 on (w/ OSFM rosters) is ideal, as the younger prospects with higher potential are going to get picked earlier than an older prospect with a higher overall but low potential. I'd also like to see it based off the team's real-life strategies, as say, the Yankees will be more likely to draft a guy with a Pujols or Fielder-esque contract than a team like the Astros or Padres.

1. Pitchers to actually hold the ball behind their back when pitching from the stretch, not in their glove.

2. Have the commentators reacting during a play not after, i.e on a home run, instead of the silence and then the commentators talking about it once it's over the fence, have them go with it during the play, "high fly ball, way back" "it could have a chance" "outfielder going back, to the wall..." etc.

3. Have the commentators finish their stories if they get interrupted. I shouldn't have to stop myself from swinging because I'm interested in a story.
