MLB 13 The Show News Post

With the MLB 2K series all but confirmed to be dead, Kotaku's Owen Good has posted an article on what MLB 13 The Show must do to keep the fans of baseball gaming happy. It should be interesting, considering a simulation baseball game for the 360 doesn't look very likely.

Your long slog through your career in Road to the Show makes the game's threadbare commentary painfully apparent. I think the world of Matt Vasgersian but he is shackled to an outdated commentary engine given to repetition and dead air. Dave Campbell's dialogue library is really showing its age, and a majority of his work sounds like Dave Campbell playing Dave Campbell. Eric Karros should be thanked for his service and sent home. The Show has world class visuals and a smooth, if minimalist, broadcast presentation. The commentary supporting it has not pulled its weight in years.

In your opinion, what does MLB 13 The Show need to do next year to satisfy your baseball gaming needs?

I second this. Would be very cool.

One other thing I'd like to see, the ability to change the numbers on your first and third base coaches.

A couple of suggestions:

1. I LOVE the new ball mechanics. That being said, there are a couple of situations that need to be cleaned up. Specifically, when you hit the ball back up the middle and off the pitcher (which still happens WAY too frequently, in my opinion), it seems like it's an out nine out of 10 times with some unrealistic rebounds right to fielders. I admit it is possible for a pitcher or fielder to recover from what basically is a fluke play and make an out, but it seems to happen much to often in this game.

I have the same issue with wild pitches to the backstop. When a pitcher air mails an offering to the screen, it HAS to be an automatic advance for the base runners. While it hasn't happened very often, I have come across a few situations where the ball bangs off the screen and right back to the catcher, who guns down my base runner by three full steps!

2. I think it would be cool to have the option to watch a relief pitcher warm up before stepping in to face him. This would allow you to get a feel for his delivery, pace and arm slot.

Other than those two minor points, I absolutely love this game and series. Keep up the good work!!

The more I play, the more things I notice.

One last thing, throwing out guys at first from RF. Too many times this season has a ball been hit to RF and I've been able to throw him out at first. It's cool when I do it, but it's unrealistic.

Add the pitcher and batter name respectively under their action menu while batting and pitching.

# 225 DGuinta1 @ 06/30/12 03:39 PM
Improve ghosting and collision detection!

# 226 DGuinta1 @ 06/30/12 03:42 PM
Rare instance but would be cool, curtain calls!

# 227 DGuinta1 @ 06/30/12 03:45 PM
Remove the herky jerky motions after the play by the player being focused on.

# 228 DGuinta1 @ 06/30/12 03:53 PM
Changed the color and font of the yellow lame font.

Smooth out the base running. In real life, a runner gets gradually faster. Anything that makes the game look more real

Dirty up home plate area more and dugout as the game progresses. Too clean!

# 231 DGuinta1 @ 06/30/12 03:59 PM
Add camera men/women, ball boy/girl and ump asking for more balls.

Selecting a pitch doesn't stop the CPU from practice swinging before the pitch.

In the list of league leaders, hightlight your team or player included in the list.

In replays include player hardware, ankle/foot gaurds, etc. Sorry for my ramblings but I luv this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to see an option to use any of the following Home-Run records as the default record in my season:

Ruth...60 HR's

Maris...61 HR's

McGwire...70 HR's

Bonds...73 HR's

My Big Klu Roster is mostly 1950 to 1969 players so I would set Roger Maris's 61 HR's as the record to beat.

The player are exceptionally real looking, now the have to act real. Sometimes the game feels to robotic, and the batting stances and windups are really robotic. Look at Zack Cozart for instance.http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/search/media****p?player_id=446359 He does a lot of stuff with the bat before going into his batting stance, and one more thing is that some of them dont look like they are trying to pitch. Look at Verlander in game. He looks like he's lobbing it, they just don't act real.

Don't know if it's been said, but having batting practice before a game in franchise would be nice.

For me some of the things that MLB 13 The Show needs to satisfy are the following!

1. Fix the Out fielders arm strength because they are too strong! And also add a new slider just for Out Fielders Arms Strength. This really needs to be adjusted because there are so many times when I hit a ball to the out field wall and the batter is so easily thrown out by a mile at second base. When these same kind of hits happen in real life more times then not the batter is safe at second! Now I kind understand maybe with a big guy like Ryan Howard how the play at second would be close but even Howard would be safe at second in real life on these same kind of hits that he is getting thrown out in MLB 12 The Show. This is a big issue in my opinion and keeps MLB The Show from playing like real baseball. This problem really makes the user change the way you would normally play the game of baseball. What I mean by that is in real life a batter would almost always head to second on all these kind of hits to the out field wall. But because of this huge issue I now usually keep my batter at first because more then likely he would be thrown out at second base. Unless the batter is one of the super fast guys and even then it more then likely would still be a close play at second base! This issue is also probleby the reason why its still too easy to throw batters out running to first base!

This issue really does change the way you run the bases compard to real life and gives me so many moments when I just want to throw my PS3 controller out the window in disbelief! Anyway I just really would love to see this issue fixed or at least improved a heck of a lot in MLB 13 The Show!

2. Some other gameplay improvments I would love to see? CPU batters not bunting as much especially in situations where they should not be bunting. Like for example I have seen the CPU try and do back to back bunts with 2 batters in a row. Or bunting with the bases loaded.

3. Also although improved from MLB 11 I still would like to see all the fielders be able to scoop up the ball and throw it quicker. Especially in situations that really need a quick throw! Just one example that still happens say a ball is hit down to third base to the right of the third basemen a lot of times he takes un needed extra steps before throwing the the ball away and sometimes this allows the runner to be safe. Now I guess this could be a user controlled problem but it needs to be improved so the user can pull off quicker throws when needed.

4. The new ball physics in MLB 12 are great however they can still be improved even more. For example there are way too many high bounce foul balls around home plate that look like pop ups! This really need to be fixed.

5. The CPU Manager Bull Pen logic still have lots of room for improvment! Like for example a lot of times I have seen a starting pitcher throwing a no hitter into the 6 or 7th inning with a pretty low pitch count and as soon as he gives up 1 or 2 hits the CPU manager pulls him and brings in the bull pen pitcher.

As far as other parts of the game I would like to see improved are.

1. Would like to see the broadcast presentation to continue to improve!

Would still like to see better Stat overlays shown like for example when a batter hits a Home Run I wantt to see "Home Run Ryan Howward 24th This Season" when the batter is rounding the basees or even crossing Home Plate would be fine too. Would also like to see the scorebar at the top of the screen changed a little bit by adding 3 dots the number of outs instead of having it say 1 out. I also would like for the pitch count to be shown all the time some where on the screen. I think either on the top scorebar or that thing with the pitch type and locatioon would be a good place to display the pitch count.

2. I also would like the crownd noise to see a improvment again. I want them to be smarter and knowing when to be loud or quiet and when to boo or cheer. Would also like to hear a lot more organ music playing at the appropriate times because this brings the game to life and makes it more exciting and realistic!

3. I really would like to see a Mode like 2K's MLB Today feature added!

3. Would love a Playoff Mode added!

4. Would love to see all the grass and dirt get an upgrade in look and color in every statium.

4. Still hoping to see Bat Boys bring batters new bats when they break instead of having the batting coaches do it. Also have them pick up the bats laying down at home plate like how 2K does it in real time!

5. Also would like to see Ball girls and ball boys sitting on chears down the first and third base lines! And handing and flipping foul balls to the crownd.

6.And last but not least more STAT STATS STATS!!

There is more I could add to this list but I do get very tired of repeating myself over and over every again every year.

Thanks for your time and looking forward to MLB 13 The Show!

Commentary still needs work. I was playing a game last night and a This Date In Baseball history popped up, mentioning Ken Griffey Jr.'s first career HR. That was proceeded by dead silence. Why not have the 3 guys talk about Junior during that time?

Need more stat overlays.
